Vita TV’s PS4 Remote Play Functionality Enabled In Japan

It's a nifty little feature, but would you use it?

As reported by Kotaku , a new update has enabled the PS4 remote play functionality for the PlayStation Vita TV. Well, in Japan, at any rate.

If you recall, the latter hosts certain games from the Vita (and older PlayStation consoles) and projects them onto the user's TV. The update, currently available through an Asian PSN account, isn't perfect, as there appears to be a bit of lag. Hopefully, Sony will get that fixed up soon. As for whether or not PlayStation TV will ever see the light of day in other territories, that remains to be seen.

Sony Japan boss Masayasu Ito said they would "watch the environment and identify what other services are available" in the US and Europe markets. So, we'll just have to wait and see.

Well if SCEWW goes bankrupt it won't be because of the lack of public interest in their exclusive-to-Japan H/W and S/W.

In my opinion north america and europe should have been the market to launch the vita tv. The japanese love portables not playing portable games tied to a tv (as sales of vita tv in japan indicated). Sony dropped the ball with the vita tv launch.

I read somewhere else that there is considerable lag streaming PS4 games to the Vita TV.

They won't do this because it will be better for them to charge us for games twice by offering a super HD version of Vita games.

I think at this point the idea is to stimulate more Vita hardware sales so the platform can grow. I'd agree with you if the Vita was already a big success and self-sustaining but from my perspective Sony would be wise to increase the value proposition of Vita rather than circumventing it.

I wish this would come stateside.

I believe a technology like this may be the backbone of Nintendo's next hardware.
