In the eyes of many, it's about time. And it was absolutely positively necessary.
As some anticipated, Sony has announced that the PlayStation Vita will receive a price cut. The news came during the company's media briefing at Gamescom 2013 today.
Starting tomorrow, the slick portable will only cost $199, and that price presumably includes both the Wi-Fi-only and 3G models. Prior to this price drop, the 3G model retailed for $299 and the Wi-Fi version cost $249. Furthermore, Sony Europe CEO Jim Ryan said those expensive memory cards will see a "significant price reduction" as well. We don't have exact numbers but it's certainly good to know. I should also reiterate that the $199 price is not confirmed for both models at this point.
So, with the new, much more attractive price tag, are you suddenly planning a Vita purchase? There are several solid reasons to own one, ya know; just ask current fans of the device.
Will definetly buy it but I wish that there was a 4g model.
Wait and see what happens.
I might finally get one now. And I can't wait for Nov 15th(PS4)!
Good, some steps in the right direction.
I'm glad it got a price drop, and the memory cards as well.
Also the PS3 12GB super slim will be $199.

What can you do with 12GB?
Not a lot I would reckon. Also, I see it more as like the xbox arcade system. Basically for people who play only a select few games.
I have an 500gb HD I can plug in, so there's that.
Or for those who use the PS3 to stream Netflix, Amazon etc.. more than play games. Or those who will easily upgrade the Hard Drive.
Is the 12GB disabled or must be removed when upgrading the HD?
I'm not sure if the upgrade is a swap out or an addition. I know you have to buy an adapter, but it's only about $12.
But is the 12GB flash? Like SSD?
Isn't that a bit late?? That's what I paid for the 250gb + game bundle almost a year ago…
Also – BL2 is coming to VITA! Much more enticing ………..
Yessss!! No I can finally get my hands on Persona 4: Golden without putting a hole in my purse 🙂
Price drop… but no new content…
How low they price the Memory Cards will determine if I will wait until they bring out larger cards. I am hoping for a 64GB or even a 128GB card. Then again I wonder how much space I will actually need if GaiKai works as I hope. Stream smaller games and AAA on physical.
I am REALLY looking forward to a price cut on the memory cards. I have been stuck with 8GB since launch.
Good
A PS4/Vita bundle for 500 bucks would be better & wishful thinking for the present.
Wishful for sure. It's supposedly reported that Sony will be at a loss again with the PS4 stuff early on. By having the Vita bundle, which would give us like a $100 dollar discount, is a bit insane and would push Sony even further down.
I like the word "significant" regarding the memory price cuts. I hope it turns out to what the word should imply.
Nice to see, just gotta work on a memory card price cut, and get some must own games, and it should sell well.
Now, let see. Price cut with very little new content or games. Yeah, that should work…
Seems like Borderlands 2 was an unexpected but excellent fit for the Vita.
Nice.
Now I'll just need to contemplate a good time to get a 32GB memory card.
Nope, I will stick to my phone which will work with the PS4 once Sony releases a final app for it
yup steps in the ryte directions from most ppl's thinking.
happy gaming =)
wow………. just wow!
they expect the vitas sales to increase with what they announced today!?
just indie titles?
im sorry $ony, but no one is going to buy a vita so they can play games they would expect to find on their freaking phones!
what happened to console quality gaming on the go?
I'm more excited about the "significant price reduction" on memory cards than any other vita news.
Not as much as I hoped, but definitely welcome.
Still waiting on the official price drop of the memory cards before I pull the trigger. Unless they introduce a new 64GB card, it better not just be bumping every card down a pay notch – it needs to be -substantial-. Amazon has the $199 price, the cards are still stupid expensive.
Also, does anyone know if the bigger cards still have speed issues? Thanks.

WOW 200 bucks 4 an EXPENSIVE paperweight at this point that "spins & lights up" that…..OOOO it plays "games" (of sorts) too. Whee I'm "impressed"
Really, they should drop the WiFi only, and make 3G $199. Just let people turn 3G on and off as needed.
Anyone know what happened to the Walking Dead bundle? it was supposed to come out yesterday. I preordered with Gamestop and even they don't know what's going on.
I ordered mine yesterday @ my local GameStop in SF and of course they didn't have stock of the Walking Dead bundle, but I was able to order it there and get it shipped-should be about a week to arrive. Not sure why Sony & Gamestop wouldn't try and make sure the retail store had stock right after the price drop…..
