As reported by 4Gamer (and cited by Joystiq ), the PlayStation Vita topped the Media Create sales charts in Japan last week, thanks to the recent price drop and the launch of the well-received Soul Sacrifice .
Thanks to the Monster Hunter -like title from Keiji Inafune And Co. and the more attractive price tag, Sony's new portable sold 63,581 units, which topped the combined 61,008 sales of the Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL. The struggling Wii U came in at only 9,454 units and with Sony and Microsoft yet to launch their new systems, Nintendo's console could be facing tough times. But that's a different subject.
Soul Sacrifice landed at #2 and #10 on the software charts; one spot for the standalone game and hardware bundle (92,396 copies) and one spot for the "Kyoutou Double Pack" (22,050 copies). So if you combine those sales, the game actually outsold the #1 title for the week, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F for the PlayStation 3. Soul Sacrifice is slated to release in the US on April 30 but it probably won't generate the same sales spike here, especially because we don't yet have a Vita price cut.
I wouldn't expect a cut until we get closer to PS4 time when they will be hitting the cross-play fun tech really hard.
Happy for the Vita. It is an excellent piece of tech. Persona 4 Golden is devouring my time. Jeez I am so crap at JRPGs… Have to play it on easy. My old brain isn't up to it anymore!

P4G has got me completely hooked as well! I had never bothered with the Persona series before because I was turned off by the modern high-school setting but I should not of ignored them. P4G is amazing old-school turn-based fun like I haven't played in a while…
And I can't wait to check out Soul Sacrifice!
Less than 10.000 WiiU units sold. Wow. That is… That is a dead box as far as I am concerned.

I already have a Vita, but that Soul Sacrifice Vita bundle looks beautiful, sad to see that it isn't likely coming to the western world. 🙁
