Convince Someone To Buy The Vita, Grab Some Sony Bonuses

So you love your PlayStation Vita. And it bugs you that not enough people are enjoying Sony's fine product.

Okay, so do something about it. By convincing someone (perhaps a friend or relative) that they should pick up the slick new portable, you can earn yourself a couple cool bonuses!

Sony has announced an incentive program that spans the month of February: If you can get someone to purchase a Vita during that span of time, and they cite you as their referral source, you will receive a $20 PSN credit and 1,000 Sony Rewards points. But wait, it's not just for you; the happy new Vita owner benefits as well. That's because they also receive a $20 PSN credit, which they can use to grab a game for their new handheld, right? Oh, don't think of this as a bribe; companies do this kind of thing all the time and usually, it's pretty darn effective.

I still think it'd be a whole lot more effective if we'd see a few more games for the Vita but let's just assume those are coming.

be interesting to see how they track that..but if I buy a Vita anytime soon, I know of a friend or two who I will be saying that they "referred" it to me, so we can all benefit..

Only 2 reasons I do not buy Vita: PRICE and NO GAMES!
For Pete's sake Sony, its too expensive, and there are no great games on it. Fix these two problems and you will have higher sales!

You're dead wrong about there being no great games but to each their own I guess….

not none, but too little.
and to make that problem worse, the best games are either ports of ps3 games ie mortal kombat, rayman, or new versions of ps3 famous titles such as motorstorm, mod nation racers, uncharted, ect, ect.
only title that really makes you sit back and say wow i need to try that is gravity rush, and thats one of THE most repetitive games out there!

@Booze925

Well, I guess if I just liked My Little Pony games then yes there isn't anything to play on the Vita. But, thankfully for me that's not the case. 🙂

But what if I already made a friend buy one? Can I still claim my price?

d'oh… I've already sold 3 of them…

I think a $50 price cut and cheaper memory sticks would be a better incentive though. It's been almost a year now, Vita needs to cross that $200 threshold. But more importantly, those memory sticks need to come down in price. They're way too expensive.

What are Sony Reward points… is that just a Vita thing or something just for the US?

But regarding the Vita, I had still yet to see a title which in which I feel forced to buy it. The Uncharted and Gravity Rush games would be games I'd try if I had one also the up coming Tareaway. But beyond that I still see no reason to pick up a Vita – Persona 4 Gold maybe… but I have a PS2…

The points are something that is used at the online sony store to shop for sony products. They have pretty good deals if you're a member.

Yep, Sony points are great. Get yourself a Sony Mastercard and you'll rack up points with every purchase. I use mine to pay all my bills and buy groceries. I've cashed in for a PS3, a PSP, a few games, a camera, and most recently I cashed a bunch of points in before Christmas for a set of wireless surround headphones (MDRDS6500). Normally 299.99

If you're responsible with credit cards, this is a great rewards system for Sony freaks.

I remember a time, not too long ago, when some insisted that ALL the Vita needed was a shooter and it would FLY off the shelves, and if you had the nerve to disagree you were just a "hater" or worse.

Oh well. We have a saying for that here in Norway: "Hovmod står for fall!".

In regards to the lack of games the coming months: It's pretty obvious they've been expecting 3rd party support by now, and were unprepared for this.
But I'm beginning to wonder if not Sony might be working on a relaunch for the Vita. So instead of spreading the efforts thin they've retracted for the time being to gather strength for this relaunch.
It's either that, or… Well… You do the math.

Who the hell ever said the Vita only needs a shooter to be successful?

I won't mention any names (I'm pretty sure most of you know who you are), but there were several around here who last spring and summer repeatedly went on about how the Vita just needed COD to be released for it to start flying off the shelves. That is practically a direct quote.

It was all so easy, so easy back then. People were dying to get it, they just needed that last little incentive!
Or so it was said. Anything else was… Unthinkable. Unspeakable. And Lord have mercy on the soul who dared suggest that Sonys challenge were more complex than that.

I'm not certain what I was saying back then but if the Vita received a high rated CoD it may very well have amped up its sales. Seeing that games like CoD Declassified and Resistance came up short in quality for Vita how could we arrive at a conclusion for that now? And let's not assume anyone believed crap games billed as shooters were ever the golden ticket for success.

Temjin001

…and I'm not saying Resistence was crap, just soft, but CoD Declassified was met with a metacritic average in what, the thirties?

Are there any games on the horizon for the Vita? The only two that i can think of is Soul Sacrifice and Tearaway.

My list of would be Vita games are
DOA5
NInja Gaiden
ninja Gaiden 2
Wipeout
A Madden
Final Fantasy X
Killzone (if it doesn't suck)
Uncharted GA(probably)
The unannounced GoW
LBP

Those would probably satisfy for a real good while. At least until more software crops up for it, like a Gran Turismo or Infamous game.

Seems to me that this can be looked at two ways:

#1 Optimist
This is a great marketing strategy and could move some Vitas.

#2 Vita Haters, Non-Owners and People Who Have Sold Their Vitas
This is a desperate move, DOOM, GLOOM, DOOM, GLOOMDOOMGLOOM, DOOM and GLOOM!!! Sony needs to lower the price to $99 with a free game and 32GB MC. There aren't any good games on the Vita except the ULTRA REPETITIVE BORING game Gravity Rush. I will not Eat Crow when I am proven wrong and you can't make me Hmmph!!!

Well, it goes something like that.

Price cannot be brought up anymore as there is always some deal going on some where that offers a Vita, 4-8 MC and game at a discount. Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway and Killzone Mercenary should move some Vitas as well. No one knows what the future holds for this handheld. However, I choose to be in the #1 group due to the fact I see the potential and I believe in Sony. Also, I have first hand experience with the Vita. I have spent a ton of time on my Vita and love many, many of the games. E3 should hold many pleasant surprises as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one last marketing stunt by Sony before they drop the price.

It is true with everything you have said. The vita haters will always put a negative spin on it no matter what. Heck I've found the vita at $200 with a memory card and two games with, it also comes with plus. I think any marketing for it is good. So hopefully more of these fly off the shelves.

If you convince the most people, you will get 1 million sony points and that is about 10,000 dollars on top of what you have already earned (btw they capped it at 10). I've seen companies do stuff like this before, but this is the best one I have seen!!!

I feel jealous of the lucky people who can take advantage of this. This will definitely help the vita though. It isn't doing good right now. Hopefully sony does this more often.
