Maybe things are looking up for the PlayStation Vita. …well, in Japan, at least.
According to GamesIndustry.biz citing the weekly Japanese sales charts, the PlayStation Vita has enjoyed a big surge, moving 13,091 units as compared to the 4,021 it moved the week prior. This also means it outsold the PSP, which hasn't been a common occurrence in recent months.
Of course, the Nintendo 3DS XL remains at the top of the heap; handhelds continue to dominate sales in Japan, while the top-selling console, the PlayStation 3, only sold 17,035 units. Here's the list:
Maybe it's a sign of better times ahead for the Vita. We're not sure which new title (if any) prompted such a rise, but there are no Vita games in the top 5 for software. Maybe Sony's portable just suddenly got a lot more attractive. It is a pretty slick little device, right?
Might be because of the plus incentive. That's always good to hear that the vita is doing well. I'm enjoying plus and the new update. It is great :).
Down voting trolls are among us! LOL! I agree with what you said 🙂
Lol no problem. Seems that some people don't want the vita to have positive sales. Sorry to those that don't have one or want one because it is good to hate on the vita.
I finally saw a commercial for Vita, in the BO Declassified bundle.
No they released two new colours for the vita in Japan: Red and Blue, hence the sales spike
You beat me to it. 🙂
A blue one would be nice. I'd buy another one just to have that color. I don't know why Sony has to be so tight with the colors in other countries.
Interesting, japan and their colors. That's the only way they sale well. Thinking about it, everytime they had a new release of colored handhelds the sales would always spike. That's funny.
That is exactly what I don't understand about Sony.
They're sitting on a freaking virtual goldmine if they'd only bring out those same colorized PS3's & Vita's, that they for all of their Japanese PSP's.
Now with that said, I know that the US did get a few colorized PSP's as I believe I already have them all in my own PSP collection, besides just my regular black PSP's….
(metallic silver
Madden: Metallic blue,
MGS: metallic hunter green,
Star Wars: white w/Darth Vadar imprint,
Hannah Montana: Lavender
God Of War: red,
& MGS: camo green).
But……I believe that amount of US colors are not nearly enough compared to the colors Japan has.
I distinctly recall Sony making 2 separate colorized announcements for the PSP in Japan over the years.
The first one were for 8 new different solid colors, blue, green, red, yellow, pink, orange, brown(I forgot the last color, purple maybe??).
And then about 2 years later, Sony announced another 12 even more brightly colored & highly-metallic PSP's for Japan too.
Hell, you should see my Japanese import Monster Hunter PSP,
It's really one drop-dead gorgeous flat copper-brown w/ a small encircled Aztec/Inca styled dragon on the front lower/right, & another 2 large dragons on the back, one on each side facing outward as guardian protectors of my PSP.
(BTW, besides it's color & dragons, the only difference from the NA models, is that the regular "function" of the "X" & "O" buttons are reversed on the Japanese PSP's).

You have John Koller to "thank" for that BikerSaint. How that man still has a job is pretty mind boggling.
I know here in my area vita sales jumped majorly because of the vita bundle. I saw them sell lots and got the second last one (half way through the line)
That's cool, good to hear! They have been sold out in my area as well.
one year later, bout bloody time we got a slight glimmer of good news!
well overdue, especially considering JP guzzled up PSPs faster and more frequent then they change their undies!
I dunno if going from just over 4,000 to a bit over 13,000 is a surge, the Vita has had bigger jumps in the past with major releases, especially when you have the 3DS selling ten times as many units. Love my Vita but Sony is completely dropping the ball in getting people excited for it.
Hell, I haven't bought a retail level game for it since Gravity Rush came out (and I've yet to finish it despite it being the reason I got a Vita in the first place) and I was going to get AC:L but then I played ACIII and decided Ubisoft could go **** themselves.
