Black Flag Title Update Brings 1080p HD To PS4 Version

More 1080p goodness for the PlayStation 4.

According to a new post at the Ubisoft blog , PS4 owners will appreciate an upcoming title update for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag . It will allow the game to support full 1080p high-definition resolution.

Right now, the game currently runs at 900p so "some players might not even be able to tell the difference." However, if you're a tech buff and you can be anal about such things, you might spot subtle upgrades like the game being a "tiny bit smoother." Black Flag originally shipped at only 900p so they would ensure a nice, steady frame rate of 30FPS. The team then used the time between the ship date and the release to focus on this title update, which would max out the HD resolution on the PS4.

They make no mention of a title update for the Xbox One version, but don't be surprised if it doesn't get 1080p. A lot of Xbox One games seem to be sub-1080p right now…

Just like last gen. Sony's console runs games at their intended resolution whilst Microsoft's runs them at lower res.

Weird. According to the following article, ac4 on ps4 and xbone runs at 60fps.

Ah. I see. I guess it runs at 60fps, with dips, but they made sure it never dips below 30fps. Also, according to the article, the update also added anti-aliasing technique, which the engineers figured out post launch. According to the article, it allegedly makes more of a difference than even the boost to 1080p. Anyone play it, yet, and can confirm?

Developers choose which FPS rate they use. A lot of games don't require 30fps. If a game does not require something, then why use it? To satisfy PC elitests like yourself? No.

A 5 year old PC won't do that. So stfu and gtfo.

will the PS3-PS4 cross-buy version run on 1080 as well?

It isn't a different 'version'.

You buy the PS3 version of the game, then when you get a PS4, you use the code provided to download the PS4 version from the PSN store. You will still need to update.

The thing that sucks. Is that all these games require day 1 updates to make them as good as they should be in the first place. The whole problem of shipping an 'unfinished' game is starting to look more worrisome. It seems like devs are becoming accustomed to having that available to them.

All those poor guys who don't have internet, or don't have their PS4 hooked up.

I got a strong suspicion that these day one patches might have more to do with DRM/copy protection. Typically you can't so easily patch a pirated game cause there will be an integrity check involved.
