Although the next-gen consoles are debuting with relatively agreeable price tags, Activision thinks price cuts will come sooner than anticipated.
During a post-earnings conference call , Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said we might see price drops for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One "sooner in the cycle:"
"They've made more investments in the back office than ever before. I think you've got lots of efficiency in manufacturing costs that could potentially drive hardware prices down sooner in the cycle. There's no indication, from our perspective, that you're going to see anything other than a very successful next seven or eight years."
The PS4 will launch at $400 while the Xbox One will cost $500. Most gamers seem satisfied with those price points, but nobody will complain if the prices come down earlier than expected. Typically, price drops often emerge when major software releases are either hitting store shelves or on the horizon. Gotta love those bundles, right?
PS4 won't have to drop for quite some time but I think with all the terrible news surrounding the Xbox One's performance that after a bad rollout they will suffer 3DS syndrome and have to do a price cut sooner than expected to stay competitive. Especially now that it's also looking like their launch exclusives aren't going to be as good as expected.
Oh yeah? Which one? I didn't think any of the footage Mickeysoft showed at E3 showed much do be excited about…
Both Ryse & Dead rising looked boring and very "current-gen"
I'm not sure you read my post right :
How so? I was commenting on the "Especially now that it's also looking like their launch exclusives aren't going to be as good as expected."
I think Crabba may be trying to say the XB exclusives were never looking good in the first place?
yeah wouldn't surprise me, since they're basically standard PCs now, it should be much easier to get production more cost-efficient and drive down prices..
I'm waiting for price-drop + BF deal for 2014 🙂
much cheaper parts, much cheaper manufacturing process, mass produced parts hell both use the same APU system, so thank you captain obvious they will see price cuts far sooner than the highly custom in house specially built systems we last saw.
lets put this in the no sh*t sherlock pile and move on.
oh not to mention the overpriced green teams not involved anymore so that will help.
dont get me wrong i love nvidias parts, but when you can buy a AMD product which is within 15% performance but over TWO HUNDRED bucks cheaper, well, its time to draw the line.
nvidia REALLY need to step it up early next year with maxwell and have it at a 20nm process level otherwise there really going to struggle.

yea that is interesting i hope it doesn't come too soon i mean i know that i wud get less for the ps4 if i sold it with in the first year or 2 but i mean they haven't come down as much for the ps3 but thats a whole different ball game and i think the ps4 will be very success no doubt i might buy another ps4 in like blue or green if one came out with a bundle or smething cos i'd like one in another colour possibly
happy gaming =)
I think the first move on the price front will come from MS this time around.
I agree. $500 is awfully steep, especially when core gamers could largely care less about the Kinect they're making you buy. And as I understand it, these consoles are largely comprised of more standard, readily available tech compared to the more proprietary nature of the previous machines, which definitely suggests these guys will be able to get the prices down relatively fast compared to previous generations.
