PSN Scheduled Maintenance Today, Will Last About 2 Hours

I'm absolutely certain you can find something else to do for a couple hours.

But you should probably know that this is scheduled maintenance and not an unexpected outage, because the latter really gets people talking when it involves the PlayStation Network.

Sony has announced that the PSN servers will be offline for two hours as the company completes "regular maintenance for the online network." This process begins today (April 18) at 9:30 p.m. PST and as the work is estimated to take around 2 hours, expect services to be restored around 11:30 p.m. PST. If you've got an existing account, you'll still be able to sign into your PSN profile, play games, and use most applications. But you won't be able to access account management, PlayStation Video, or the PlayStation Store. As Sony explained:

"We apologize for any inconvenience. We strive to ensure that PlayStation Network services are available at all times, but occasionally we must take PlayStation Network offline to perform essential maintenance and implement feature enhancements."

The company added that they continue to work hard "to reduce the duration of each maintenance." Frankly, I almost never notice. If I am playing a game, it's almost always offline, anyway; otherwise, I'm reading.

No big deal. Just can't buy new things, really. Sounds like regular gaming activities won't be affected.

This mean we're getting a big ol' store update on tuesday?
