After last week's huge unveiling , the world can't stop talking about Final Fantasy XV .
And of course, this includes the ongoing battle between long-time fans of the legendary franchise and the developers at Square Enix. Some really don't believe FFXV will be a return to glory, but director Hajime Tabata said the game is the result of the team taking a long hard look in the mirror. As he told Siliconera :
"Everyone needed to face the reality that Final Fantasy hasn’t been succeeding, and they needed to be prepared to overcome this. One thing we all agreed on was: Instead of following everything the way we’ve been doing up until now because Final Fantasy hasn’t been able to succeed in HD, we’ll do everything that must be done in order to succeed in the era of HD. It started with creating one team, with everyone having the mindset of a challenger as we went into production."
Square Enix determined the internal hierarchy just wasn't working, and Tabata said they wanted to shake things up to avoid "imitation of originals" and by "resetting unnecessary relations" within the team, they were able to say, "from here on, there is no top or bottom in this land of Shura!"
…personally, I haven't the slightest clue what they're talking about. It may as well be another language because every word these people say is in direct opposition to everything they've actually done with this series. It's bizarre . All I can think of is Will Ferrell's character in "Zoolander" going, "I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!"
Anyway, Final Fantasy XV is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30 (a PC version could follow at a later date). Square Enix also released a new demo of the game, and confirmed an anime series, feature film, and app, along with a couple fancy special editions, one of which might get restocked .

It sounds like they realized that the same old same old wasn't working and shook things up. Not imitating originals suggests that they consciously tried to avoid emulating prior classic entries of FF. Resetting unnecessary relationships withing the team sounds like one of two things, possibly both; doing away with clicques in the team, and breaking up teams that previously worked on thing A, and cross pollenating other teams doing B, C and D. You get new ideas and new perspectives across the entire team.
Same old what though? FFXIII 1-3 is what didn't work. If they call that the same old same old then I'm really confused.
FFXIII was in development for how long? And the sequels? If the majority of the team was together for those, then the same old, same old ismwhat we got with FFXIII andnthe two sequels. Gotta shake things up to generate change, no point in scorched earth though, just reset, shake things up and let them alent show again.
My rebuttal to that (to them not you) is that Lighting Returns shook things up utterly. It's crazy, these people are choosing what to do next out of a hat with random ideas in it.
I'm glad the director addressed the frame rate problems. Apparently it's supposed to be fixed for release.
yeah, good thing people brought that up. He must not have noticed.
Well lemme say this. HD and its era has nothing to do with anything.
If you want to make a good Final Fantasy game the first thing you need to do is lay bare the skeletons of the classics, emulate them as hard as humanly possible and then overlay updated mechanics that work off of the original core without changing genres. Then transplant onto the work a set of creative new plots that speak to the times. Then create a world that represents the story in physical form. Now build characters that people become invested in very quickly and give them their own lives and dramatic reasons for following the protagonist.
etc and so forth. Last thing you should do is overturn the tables and yell. These people are out of their minds, and I think we will see (if nothing else) the dark, inner psychoses of the Final Fantasty development team at Square Enix in FFXV as it attempts to become the ultimate open world action western.
Nah, sometimes table-flipping is needed. Sometimes you have to piss everyone off by challenging every assumption and making them explain their reasoning and assumptions to someone outside the problem.
I think the biggest problem is the graphics. If they made the same story and gameplay as ps1 and ps2, ppl will enjoy it. Their problem is they try to always stay top of the line in graphics, to say they can no longer make ff7 world to meet the size. I say make the grass a bit fuzzier and ppl will accept it.
They flipped the table 3 times already. It's enough already. If you want to shake things up, do it within the framework of what people like.
The place to go nuts and test crazy ideas like warp, cut, dodge, block, toss fire, warp, cut dodge, block, toss ice for 40 hours is in a new IP.
I say let the Haterz hate. Besides the demo being short i really enjoyed it. And im sure the "Haters" well still buy this game day one. And oh the demo may be short but at least we didnt have to pay for it. *cough Ground Zero *cough, cough*
I was a staunch supporter of this game but things wen sideways at a certain point. As a converted hater, this will be the first I may not play at all; all the indicators are negative so far. Certainly not a day 1, but I will be reasonable and read the reviews.
Then I will be reasonable and if I still want to play it to experience the story or commiserate with a particular character I'll buy it cheap because Square Enix is going to overship the number of copies on this game like nobodies business.
