Will The FFVII Remake Overshadow Final Fantasy XV In 2016?

Yes, I'm well aware Final Fantasy VII Remake won't launch in 2016.

But the point is, that game will continue to make headlines until it's released and in the meantime, one wonders if the next entry in the franchise, Final Fantasy XV , will actually take a back seat to a game that isn't even out yet.

As it is, people will be arguing about that fresh trailer and the episodic news through the end of the year. It seems like any time Square Enix releases any details concerning the project, the Internet just explodes. Perhaps rightfully so, as it seems to many die-hard fans of the epic RPG classic that once again, Square Enix developers are going to muck up another FF production and in so doing, break hearts yet again.

But let's not forget that we're supposed to get a release date announcement for FFXV in March and Square Enix has already promised it'll launch in 2016. If you count back to the first time Final Fantasy Versus XIII was revealed back in 2006, that will mean the game has been in development (on and off and in various stages, granted) for over a decade. Well, whatever. It's coming and it almost seems like we've forgotten about it amid the FFVII hoopla. And the more we learn about the latter, the more the forums and message boards will light up.

Perhaps it's just a ploy by the publisher to drive up interest in the franchise, as sales took a steep dive during the FFXIII trilogy (look them up; they're comical). Is it feasible that the FFVII remake might actually have a positive impact on FFXV sales…? Hell, looks like they're using similar combat mechanics (a lot of flash and not much brain, as far as I can tell), so if you like one, you might like the other. What do you think?

I'd say Rise of Tomb Raider sales were even more comical.

You just know they'll bundle a playable demo of one game in the other.

I don't think so! FF7 would overshadow everything if they were sticking to its original form. Im hoping Star Ocean 5 won't be overlooked it comes out sometime next year as well.

I hope so, there isn't even an audience for XV and it doesn't deserve the full number status. I tried to replay that Duscae demo and it's just such an awful battle mechanic I can't imagine doing it for a long time. The story is going to have to be innnnncredible lemme tell ya.

Hopefully the game somehow comes together and doesn't suck, I'd love to be wrong about it. In the mean time FFVII will probably be the headline grabber until SE realizes they fugged up and goes dark again like they did on FFXV when they were trying to sell Lightning Returns to those 1 million people.

I was one of those 1 million people, actually enjoyed LR as a game, but in no way should it have Final Fantasy anywhere near its title.

I agree totally. It was fun a furious combat and clothing. Again, not an FF game though.

Didn't you got hyped with VII remake combat? it looks similar to XV.

I tried both XIII-2 and XIII-3 demos and the combat was awful, I still can't believe people are happy with the 10 fps ARPG combat of VII lol.

A quick browse through any website will show millions upon millions of SEs dead, or needs to die or have lost their way comments so of course VII will overshadow XV. What i love is they covet the new player who shows no loyalty but throw the longterm loyal fans scraps and can't seem to figure out why we have even started to lose hope in the future of FF. VIIs info will dominate the net even after it releases.

XV looks awesome, never played any other ff except for xiv (which just confirmed all the negative stereotypes for mmorpgs for me within weeks), always thought rpgs were boring as hell but seeing as they got rid of that pokemon style crap where you wait your turn to attack and stuff i'm definitly looking forward to xv, and if 7 does away with that completly i might give it a shot too seeing as how people were creaming themselves when it got announced as a remake

you associate turn based with Pokemon? thats certaintly interesting.Did you play the Final fantasy 13 or its sequels? I think those could be up your alley if you still have a PS3.

There will be so many great RPGs next year that I am not thinking about FF7 or FF15. I haven't played any FF game since FF10 and I have no regrets.

Some of us need to just move on. Unless Square proves us wrong, we are not going to experience FF of that yesterday. Furthermore, the fact that they're doing FF7 in episodes adds on to the fact they're remaking the game more so because of money related reasons than true appreciation for their fans.

What are all these great RPGs next year? I'm not being a butthole I actually wanna know. I'm hoping Persona 5 hits but I'm not aware of any others.

Which RPGs?

Persona 5
Dark Souls 3
Star Ocean 5
Moon Hunters
Kingdom Come

Those are some that come to mind but bare in mind that I could easily play Dark Souls 3 for a year and half and it'll keep me more than satisfy.

At least XV it's a full game, I'm actually interested for all the years they wasted on this title, if it scores on metacritic less than 85% it would be awful.

I don't believe for one second that SE isn't aware of what fans want. They just don't want to make it. If they make a decent rpg I'll buy it, if not, they won't see a dime from me. If they don't care, then fine, I don't either.

My eyes are definitely set on the FFVII remake. I'm not interested in FFXV because it's not what I'm looking for. I'm waiting for reviews before I buy anything from SE, so if they don't mess up FFVII, that's the one I want
