PS4 Has “Most Successful Black Friday In Sony History”

In the U.S. last month, PlayStation 4 fell from its #1 hardware spot and of course, the knee-jerk reactions were everywhere.

And while it's certainly true that Xbox One's exclusive lineup is impressive, Sony says PS4's holiday season will be quite lucrative, if Black Friday sales are any indication.

According to a new Financial Times report , Sony's home console just set a record for the company. So said SCE president Andrew House:

"We've just seen the most successful Black Friday in the company's history. Rumors of the demise of the console have been greatly exaggerated."

House added that they're "now trying to benchmark against the success of the PlayStation 2 – or exceed it if possible." Now, as I've said before, it's unlikely Sony will top PS2's 155 million units sold and House echoes that hesitancy, citing "the cadence at which people expect innovation" these days. Absolutely true.

But the pace is certainly comparable. PS2 sold 51 million units in the three years following its March 2000 release and hit 100 million by the end of 2005. After two years, PS4 has crossed the 30 million mark , which is just behind PS2 (PS4 would have to sell over 20 million in 2016 to remain on pace).

But either way, PS4 is definitely on the right track and next year is shaping up very nicely. The system is the same price as Xbox One and 2016's PS4 exclusive lineup is looking awesome right now.

xbox's big lineup didn't do much this holiday season. I wonder how that'll affect them next year when they have only crackdown, forza, and that tv show stop time game.

as much as I respect Zipper Interactive's work with SOCOM, and as nostalgic and awesome the game was…I really doubt it would do much to help their numbers.

I don't know Shadowpal…do you remember the craze that was SOCOM back in the ps2 days? It's a shame Sony let one of it's early heavy-hitters die off. I'm still waiting on a tactical shooter in the vein of Vegas 1 & 2, and Socom.

Can't wait to open my PS4 Nathan Drake Edition!
Still can't believe I got it for $270, no tax!!
Smart of Sony to keep it at $299 throughout December.

Newegg 🙂
They were offering also a 5% discount if you ordered via their app!

Damn, I checked Newegg & Overstock.com but there was nothin there at the time, so I grabbed my $299 Uncharted bundle from BestBuy, but after tax, it wound up costing me $321(FYI,BB charges tax because they have a warehouse in the upper 1/2 of my state, New Jersey).

I did manage to get some Happy-Joy-Joy out of it with a PS4 camera on sale for $39.99, a beautiful Blue PS4 on sale for $39.99, & a PSTV for $19.99 at BestBuy too.

Plus I was able to get 12 PS4 & another 3 PS3 new & used games(mostly new) for a little less than $160 at various sites all throughout the Black Friday week.

Anyways, I'm happy to be able to have added to Sony's best Black Friday week yet…"YAY"

@BikerSaint, Good to see you back on your (gaming) feet again!!!
I had a $80 gift card from BB on my pocket for almost 2 years, couldn't bring myself to pay the sales tax LOL finally I just folded.
I avoid buying anything from local stores unless it is a work emergency, love Newegg for all my no tax shopping 🙂

Karosso,
Thanks man,
I didn't have any cards myself, but I had a $10 rewards bonus at BB so I applied it to the PS4 camera & it wound up being only $29.99 before taxes.

I also picked on sale from Black Friday, a Colecovision Flashback console with 60 games built in($23.99) & a Genesis Flashback console with 80 games built in, plus this Genesis console also takes all the Genesis carts too($13.99), and I picked up another PS2 wireless Shockwave controller($8.24) from StoneAgeGamer. com

And I picked a vita some months back, so I've now got even more of a humongous whopper of a games backlog.
But I'll certainly never complain about that 🙂

LOL TrueAssassin86x!
MS sold 22%,56%. Bazillians% more than what/how much exactly?
Sounds more like they where trounced by PS4 and won't reveal any numbers.
They had to even count the 360 to beef up their percentage LOL
Percentage without a base number means nothing.

Karosso,
And not only that, almost all of the comments there are bashing everything in that post & at M$ too.

And besides, who authors all that unneeded mushy "Look here, I'm kissing M$'s ass" in a public thread?
Damn, he acts like he's one of those obnoxious 7 year old online rug-rats.

Ugh, gag me with a spoon…….

I never thought both the PS4 and X1 would sell as well as they do now.
With mobile gaming in the fray I thought it would have affected console sales really bad, guess I was wrong.

I finally joined the new gen too on Black Friday, with U4 & Detroit on the way, I couldn't say no when I got such an awesome deal on BF. Got the Nathan Drake Collection for less than $250 incl tax! Not the best bundle maybe since I already have all three games for PS3, but hopefully they have enough improvements over the PS3-versions to warrant another copy…

Just received & connected it a couple of days ago, don't have that many games for it yet but I've had a lot of fun playing Resogun so far, and I've also got Killzone Shadow Fall, Tomb Raider definitive edition & of course the Uncharted collection to dive into so I should be good for a while..

I was a little bit interested in trying Bloodborne to see if it's anything for me, but was surprised to see that there's no demo for it, and that's not the kind of game I feel like buying before trying considering the type of game it is. Just overall it seems like there are very few game demos available for PS4 games which is pretty weird..
