Yes, perhaps it was inevitable that Destiny would end up with microtransactions .
The good news is that none of the items you can purchase with Silver (the in-game currency you buy with real cash) have any impact on the gameplay. They're purely cosmetic.
They're all emotes and if you check the Eververse Trading Company Store in the game, you'll find the pricing for these extras. You'll also find that everyone gets 400 Silver to start, which is enough to purchase 2 emotes, as they go for 200 Silver each. However, there are "Legendary" emotes that go for 500 Silver and this includes the "The Carlton" from "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." There are also Silver bundles you can buy:
Purchasing all 18 of the available emotes will run you 4,200 Silver, which translates to $38. However, don't forget that you'll get a little extra Silver for playing between now and December.
