Rainbow Six Siege DLC Maps Will Be Free

People have always hated paying for post-launch maps. But the new trend is to give 'em away for free.

That's continuing with the upcoming Rainbow Six Siege , as Ubisoft has confirmed that all DLC maps will be delivered free of charge.

They also clarified the number of maps that will be available on day one, because that was rapidly becoming a topic of conversation. As the publisher said in a statement:

"At launch, Rainbow Six Siege will have 11 maps, playable both day or night, all using the full potential of our Real Blast destruction technology. In addition, all post-launch maps will be downloadable for free. We want players to stay with us for the long term and have ambitious post-launch plans that we will detail at a later stage."

The anticipated Rainbow Six Siege was originally set for October but was pushed into December. That's when it will arrive for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and if you want to try it earlier, you can participate in the beta test, which starts on September 24. It's easy to get in; click here to find out more.

All shooters should have free map DLC. The PC was doing this for ages until Activision got the bright idea to charge for map packs and, the lowest common denominator thought it was a good idea to buy them.

Hopefully more devs/publishers return to this model and make there DLC money elsewhere like in cosmetics.
