Recently, Square Enix boss and Final Fantasy VII Remake director Tetsuya Nomura told Engadget that he hopes the gigantic announcement will help push PlayStation 4 sales.
…really?
The way he worded his response, it's obvious that he thinks the mere unveiling of the project could prompt a rise in hardware sales for Sony. And perhaps – or probably – it's a strategic maneuver, because this could help pave the way for other Square Enix titles like Kingdom Hearts III , Final Fantasy XV , and the new Star Ocean . But will we really see a boost in PS4 sales just because of that FFVII Remake announcement at E3?
I seriously doubt it. Details are just way too fuzzy at this point. For one thing, we only know it's debuting on PS4; there's no knowing when it'll come to other platforms. It could show up on Xbox One not long after, which means current Xbox One owners probably aren't sprinting to the stores right now to buy a PS4. As for the die-hard FFVII fans, they also haven't seen or heard enough. There's no release date, no gameplay footage, and really, very little in the way of game details overall.
Many remain very skeptical given the company's track record over the past decade. They could easily mess this up. Now, I know PS4 sales have been lagging in Japan a bit, so perhaps Japanese gamers will respond with more blind gusto, but I doubt it. I'm willing to bet this remake doesn't come out until 2017 at the earliest…if it even comes out at all. Which, honestly, I have serious doubts about. That whole E3 thing seems like more of a desperate PR stunt, I think.
Anyway, a PS4 sales boost now? Just for this far-off mystery game? I don't think so.

No. This game is years away from release. I wouldn't be shocked if it ends up releasing on the Playstation5.
I really hope they suprise us and announce they've actually been working on it since the ps3 tech demo and give a winter 2017 release date at this years Tokyo Game Show. I know that is too much to ask for coming from Square, but at this point I'm praying. This is "THE" game I've wanted the most out of all games, even above Fallout 4!
Yeah, if it had a release date I think they'd be right. Whenever it does come there will probably be a spike. You know there'll be a bundle, and if they do it right, a killer special edition package would sell like crazy.
Im not gonna jump on the hype for this game just yet. I wont be happy till its in my system and im playing it
I think it already has…I know many people who were waiting on the fence a little hoping the price will go down…and this E3 pushed them over the edge and they pulled the trigger. It just makes buying a PS4 easier when you know its gonna have a game you will buy and want to play day one.
If it gets really close to release, and they announce it's exclusive to PS4 only, then yeah… it would boost sales, I would think.
It certainly helped PS1 sales. On the other hand, maybe the days of system sellers are gone, and it's a moot point anyways.
agreed
He was specifically referring to sales in Japan – not globally; though I'm sure he'd be happy if sales spiked everywhere!
Sony doesn't need more sales. Just work on the game guys. Work hard this time.
Let's just hope it actually does come out and that trailer wasn't just something that ends up being just a glorious memory.
well every little bit helps but i'm not sure everyone is convinced enough of it yet for the sales spike to happen you really would need some demo gameplay for that to happen.
happy gaming
