But maybe an announcement is forthcoming. According to Videogamer citing an interview published on Criterion's website , we might hear something very soon…
Producer Pete Lake confirmed the team is working on "a couple of super-secret things that I can't talk about yet." He added that they'll have "something amazing to reveal soon," which could indeed be a new Burnout effort. On the other hand, don't forget they announced an intriguing first-person extreme sports racer at E3 2014 and we haven't heard anything about it since, so it could be that.
The last title in the award-winning arcade-style franchise was 2011's Burnout Crash , a fun little downloadable that didn't really qualify as a true Burnout entry. Bring it on, Criterion!
Isn't the Criterion that was no longer the Criterian that is? I seem to remember most all of the key members of the studio having left many months ago. While that doesn't mean Burnout is doomed it doesn't help knowing that the A team who made the series great isn't involved.

Yes, you're right. Many people went onto Ghost Games (including Craig Sullivan) when they took over the NFS franchise. The two founders of Criterion Games (Alex Ward and Fionna Sperry) plus some veteran Burnout Paradise people left last year and formed a new, independent studio, Three Fields Entertainment. Criterion still has some key people (Matt Webster and Pete Lake). I guess it might be unrealistic to suppose that all those talented people would still be in one place seven years later. So while I would love BP2, I'm not (yet) convinced they could reproduce the gold they had with BP.
Burnout Paradise 2 please! I loved the open city Burnout with all the stunt jumps and breakables to discover.

I really would like to see a Burnout HD trilogy!
I hope it will not require constant internet connection to play this, because EA can be a Ahole sometimes…
