Price Cut For Physical Copies Of MGSV: Ground Zeroes

If you haven't yet tried the much-hyped preview, you just got more incentive.

Konami has announced a price drop for all boxed versions of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes . The game can now be purchased for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for only $20.

The digital copy can be purchased for $20 as well on PS3 and 360, but this version remains $30 for PS4 and Xbox One. So as of now, the boxed version for next-gen consoles is definitely the way to go, and it'll give you a chance to check out Hideo Kojima's latest masterpiece. A peek at the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain , Ground Zeroes offers a glimpse of greatness.

Let's hope that greatness is realized…

"disc-based versions are cheaper than the digital versions" – this is exactly what I am afraid of will be the case in the future too. It's really only how things work when a distribution becomes monopolistic (PSN).

This is my *main* concern with an all digitial distribution model on consoles. Less competition.

You can kinda buy PSN games at amazon and gamestop some of the time. Hopefully it later becomes more of a competitive thing letting them set their own prices and stuff. Especially for thing you can't buy a disk for.

Problem is still that Sony completely controls the marketplace.
It's like if all trade of physical disks were given as exclusive right to Amazon (or Play, or whoever). Others could sell coupons to use at Amazon to receive the game, Amazon would still very much control that market, and thus define the prices.

I do not like the prospect of that. It *can* get ugly, all depending on how Sony play their cards. It's quite tempting for any company to use that opportunity to squeeze the market to the max.

don't worry Beam. Deals will always happen on PSN and Live etc. with or without the competition.
They know very well that the buying values of their customers are varied.

Also, software, like movies, lose their value once marketing is over. Meaning, few will buy a two year old game for $60. There's always a notion that older means less valuable and any company will try to maximize their profits by offering discounted content to increase overall revenue by appealing to a diverse range of consumer spending interests.

Also, MGS:GZ was already slashed to like $14 on a PSN sale event several weeks ago. The deals will always be there.

So far (and I now speak from experience during the PS3 years) is that Sony has *not* proven themselves in this respect yet, Temjin. There's hoping they will, but usually a regular full game on PSN had a higher price than the same title on Play and Amazon. That was the rule.

To maximize the profit is the exact reason why I fear the prices will be kept higher than they would on a marketplace with several outlets. They own that channel, can advertise directly into the homes of the users with their prices, they totally control the marketplace. It makes no sense to keep an aggressive pricing.

So I'm not saying there will not be "sales". But that term is really quite hollow.

Honestly from the reviews I have read I don't think I'd get $20 worth of game out of it for me personally. Might pick it up the next price drop though.

Wait…. This game is $30? That just hit me. And I have the game in my collection. Half the price of the full game and it probably isn't even 14 of the game… Just a small demo.

Oh here we go. This is not a demo unless you played the game please dont talk. I have the game and played for about 20 hours just to 100 percent the game just saying.

Well, this certainly hasn't taken effect in the UK, prices are still the same was when I bought them. And yes, greatness will be realized. I am buying a Playstation 4 purely to experience this game in 1080p 60fps.

Edit: Arrrrrrgghhh!!! So the UK equivalent is the game being £19.99… Which is what it was when it launched anyway… the prices were dropping below that but due to this announcement they've all risen back up to £19.99…. Not impressed, as I only have the PS3 version of GZ as of now.

I'm holding out for when the game is eventually given away with a pre-order of MGSV or something.
…maybe even as a PS Plus freebie.

I think either scenario is likely.
I've already played through the game once so I'm in no hurry.
