Ben-DutkaWell, it isn't the best reason to announce a game, but we definitely understand the motivation.
The new Doom was revealed at QuakeCon, but Bethesda vice president of PR and Marketing Pete Hines explained to PC Gamer that unfortunately, they're not ready for a "formal announcement."
In fact, we won't hear anything more about the game until next year. So why unveil it now? To help combat the gaming public's negative view of developer id Software, apparently. Hines said the team didn't want to put any footage out there, because under normal circumstances, they "wouldn't be showing this to anybody at all." He just wanted to throw the gamers a bone:
"I really wanted to put something out there that, in a strong way, said, ‘id is working on something that we think is really cool.' And we wanted … to show something to [id Software fans] that gives them the confidence that it is still a viable studio that’s doing really cool stuff, that is making a game you want to play, and is treating Doom with the care and respect that you want.
And now we’re going to go away and go back to making the game, but to be able to counter other people talking about us and we’re sort of just sitting here staying silent, or operating from this negative space of like, ‘Oh, it got rebooted, oh it’s in trouble.’ All of that stuff just bothered the hell out of me."
This probably isn't what most gamers wanted to hear, but at least we do know id Software is cranking away on the new Doom . It's just a little unsettling to hear about publishers pushing developers to debut games that aren't ready to be debuted…especially when the title in question has supposedly been in the works for a long time.

That's publishers for ya. I'm not surprised they want to fix id's reputation after the RAGE disaster.
And now we're waiting another year for something… just like typical PC Devs taking forever.
Well its just the same with Mass Effect new universe or whatever its called, and star wars battlfront reboot? They were both shown but…nothing really shown at all. Like a mega tease that ended with "TO BE CONTINUED…until you buy the dlc just to see the main character die at the end for no reason!"
Not ready for a " formal announcement " and yet , they offer a beta access by buying Wolfenstein ????
