Well, you know, it's a PC-oriented franchise, so of course you have to wait ten thousand years for a sequel.
…oh, calm down. You know it's true. 😉
Anyway, after many years of waiting, the long-awaited fourth Doom entry has been officially unveiled. In fact, it's just called "Doom" (no 4), kinda like when Crystal Dynamics rebooted "Tomb Raider."
Developer id Software showed off the new game at this year's QuakeCon conference, and it will focus on fast-paced combat and takes place on Mars. We hear that combat is especially brutal and there will be plenty of up-close-and-personal confrontations as well. Players can expect a large arsenal, all of which can be carried at the same time (ala the recently released Wolfenstein: The New Order ). Speaking of the latter title, if you purchased it, you're automatically in the beta for Doom .
Technically, the new project was announced back in 2008 as "Doom 4," but then publisher Bethesda announced three years later that the project had been scrapped. This new effort will unsurprisingly come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and thanks to the powerful id Tech 6 engine, we'll get 1080p HD and 60 frames per second. Can't wait to learn more!
Related Game(s): Doom 4
Ha, nice one Ben.
Also, might keep up with this. Didn't really like the 3rd one, which is the only one I've played, but oh well.
The Twitter made it a point of telling me this while driving. A brief look through of the RTs were mostly winy fans over the announcement having nothing to do with a Fallout 4.
I somehow missed out on the golden age of Doom, so I'll keep holding my fingers crossed for a new Quake!
I'm interested. But for me and Doom it's a relationship more about tech-showcase than it is the actual game play.
I want this to impress me in the visual aspect. Doom 3 was a big reason back in the day to upgrade your graphics card. it was a "oh wow! those graphics look amazing" experience.
Doom and Doom 2 of course were impressive in their day too. Moreso Doom than Doom 2, but outside of Wolfenstein 3D (something slower with less motion) Doom was truly breakthrough for it's time.
This feels more like a reboot than a sequel.
Not just with the name "Doom". But the gameplay itself, feels VERY much like the original doom games. It seems they are going back to the series roots.
I will be buying this one on PC for sure. As Temjin said, Doom 3 was the reason why we upgraded the PC in my house all those years ago, I am going to use Doom 4 as the excuse for the next upgrade.
It was weird cuz Doom 3 was actually a reboot as well despite the number. Dunno why people freaked, it was a scary game.
So I hope this reboot does things differently than that one to keep us interested. I look forward to the beta but to live up to the Doom name this game is going to have to be beyond hype levels and this announcement with like no details doesn't help the excitement. The id Tech 6 engine didn't help Wolfenstein so gimme more details!
i remember getting doom3 on pc and really enjoying it.
Now that I really think about it, none of the Doom games were exactly linear though were they?
I mean, Doom 1 and Doom 2 could arguably be considered separate games entirely and not sequels.
I guess when you look at the series, each game seems to represent another time when Hell has reached into our dimension and invaded, and someone has fought them back. (although with this thought, you would think that UAC would learn their lesson and stop researching teleportation by now right?)
Would be good to see Doom 4 create some sort of story that carries into future titles.

yes, please.
thats because PC developers actually CARE about the quality of their games……
that and they like to try new ideas, instead of taking yesterdays dinner adding a little salt on it and say hey look a new dinner i made it from scratch specially for you!
SO cant wait for this though, looks so brutal and oh so old school!
hope it keeps the horror vibe 3 had though really enjoyed the new style of it.
ok it was very different to what the originals were, but it captured a new essence that just felt so right.
hopefully they will manage to replicate that while also bringing back the fast paced over the top frantic action of what created the worlds most popular genre!
"that and they like to try new ideas,"
Next minute….
"SO cant wait for this though, looks so brutal and oh so old school!"
So hang on. PC developers are freakin' amazing because they are ALWAYS trying new things, but yet you are super excited for Doom 4 because it goes old school?
Okay. I guess I lost any hope of ever understanding your stupid logic long ago anyway.
when is the Beta being released ?
