EA Hasn’t Abandoned Dead Space

Will Dead Space ever return? Electronic Arts would like to think so.

During a recent Polygon interview with EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Soderlund, we learn that another entry could come down the pike, but only if they can find a way to retain the core of the franchise:

"Do I think that we will create a Dead Space game again? Yes, I think so. But when we do so, we have to think about what made the previous ones successful and how we go about envisioning Dead Space for a new generation."

If you didn't already know, developer Visceral Games is working on Battlefield: Hardline and a currently unannounced Star Wars game. Soderlund says the team is "incredibly enthusiastic" about those projects now, but added that Dead Space is a "great brand" they don't want to leave behind. As you can see through the link, EA refuses to say Battlefield is an annual franchise; just for the record.

I'm sure true horror aficionados know exactly how to bring Dead Space back…reboot the franchise with a game that's more like the original title, as opposed to the third-person shooter that was Dead Space 3 .

They pretty much killed it with the third entry, at least for me.

When I played the first one I was impressed with everything; it really had a horror atmosphere and survival feel to it. The second one was also great, but the third one is just a shadow of what it once was.

I agree. I've yet to finish the third one. It's a shame that companies almost always water down the formula to reach a wider market with each new game in a series.

Let it die or make it survival horror.

Dead Space died for me after I played the demo for the second one.

I watched my son play one level on the third game and realized that Dead Space to me was nothing more then one great game.

Two was pushing it with all the attempts at jump scares with monsters flailing around like inflatable arm men. It wasn't scary, and it certainly wasn't as good as the first one where every scare was planned and had nothing but high tension rising from start to finish. Granted when you go back to the Ishimura in Dead Space 2, that was awesomely creepy but overall the game wasn't that good.

3 was awful. Backtrack Space 3.

its incredibly ironic and also frustrating listening to these morons about these things.
there CONSTANTLY saying if we were to bring back a franchise we would have to discover what made the previous ones so popular and revive that.
yet when were doing sequels we do the exact opposite.
so why was the goal with dead space 3 turn it into the new gears, and now all of a sudden now that dead space has been on hiatus for a while its now suddenly we need to go back to the confined claustrophobic feel of the original?

its almost like these idiots know that a DS game thats just a TPS wont sell well, but do it any way because they are living in a what if never know wonderland.
they understand what the problem is, YET THEY KEEP F*CKING DOING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dead Space 2 was the first one i got to play and i thought it was so awesome that i had to play the first one. First one was definitely scarier, and had an overall better feel to it.
I was all excited about the third one just to be completely disappointed once it came out, it was just terrible, if the new one is anything like 1 or 2 i would be happy

and all the ppl saying how dead space 2 sucks ur stupid, just because it was more of an action game than horror doesnt make it bad. just different. either way there were still some parts that creeped me out.

dead space 3 though, was just overall bad. crappy design, boring gameplay, not the least bit scary, mediocre graphics (esp for a 2013 game), the list goes on. i didn't even end up finishing it until much later when i didn't have anything else to play.
