Production values. It's what Square Enix does best when it comes to Final Fantasy .
But we always want to see more in the way of gameplay because after all, that's what's most important. This 7+ minute trailer for FFXIII-2, which debuted this past week at New York Comic-Con, shows us more than we've ever seen before. There's a bevy of cut-scenes (some of which we've enjoyed before) along with new gameplay that gives us an idea of various character abilities. It's pretty and very difficult to ignore.
Now, it may not be an RPG. It certainly doesn't look like one; it has even more action elements than its predecessor. There are more role-playing elements from what we hear, so that's good, but I think we know what to expect. Personally, I'm hoping for a great game that doesn't necessarily feel anything like "Final Fantasy." And I can live with that.

They need to stop using that song (the one played during the last part of the video). It's terrible and makes me want to stop watching just like the rest of the videos they've shown for the game.
Oh and I'm on my 2nd playthrough of RE5 and it still is the worst entry in the RE series just like XIII is the worst in the FF series. Booya!
I actually like the song better than Leona Lewis song. For me XII was worst didnt like the characters or story and the battle system etc wasnt enough to keep me playing.
I strongly disagree with you. While I didn't like Leona's song used in XIII I didn't consider it a gawd awful song. The song used for this game is horrible and doesn't even fit the scenes they're showing.
XII actually had an RPG battle system, for that alone it's better than XIII. On top of that it had an amazing soundtrack, interesting enemies, and an open world to explore.
XII had an MMO battle system, it was not compatible with FF greatness.
I beg to differ World. It was deep and allowed a ton of customization. You must not like the WKC series then.
It works for WKC, not for FF.
LOL, look at you upvoting your own comments! Be honest you did!
Explain to me how it doesn't work for a FF series. It worked so well for me I find myself playing XII more than any other FF (besides VI).
XII has several things that I severely dislike, but you can also pause it's battles, think tactically during combat, control your entire party, and continue playing if your party leader dies. These things put it head and shoulders over XIII.
I thought FFXII was expertly accomplished. As much as I love WKC, WKC gameplay is severely inferior to FFXII's gameplay. The depth and sheer amount of variety in attacks is one thing, but the gambit system is another. In FFXII, I can literally program the AI to perform exactly the way I want them to perform. In WKC, I give them a general idea of what I want them to do, then cross my fingers.
I can get Vaan to tank expertly without babysitting. And if they know an enemy weakness, they'll exploit it. WKC AI is dumb. There's no way WKC's gameplay is better than FFXII. FFXII is definitely the big brother of that gameplay.
XII was an RPG mechanic, like it for FF or not. XIII wasn't. That's the only real difference here.
FF has always had a separate battle screen where lines are clearly drawn, characters don't lollygag around the map and behave like drones, they interact as if it were a continuous joust. XII had me preprogramming drones and it didn't fit with what the series should have. Even the dreaded battle system in XIII is closer to the real deal in that way.
Trailer was good I have already preordered XIII-2.
I would love to pre-order but i have soo many other games i plan on getting. Maybe it'll be a late bday gift…(january 7th) Regardless of pre-order it looks good an i cant wait to get my hands on it
Looks pretty good, now that we know what not to expect from it I think I can enjoy it. Who knew Snow was a blond Wolverine? Hope seems a tad less emo now that he's grown up. If somebody could dream Tidus into this world it would all be okay.
*whistle* -X- *whistle* -X- *whistle* -X- *whistle* -X-
Do you wish to see him again?

Hmm…. I suppose we could… dream… just a little longer.
Hey folks, if nothing else it looks good. Also anybody else notice that the bad guy's sword looks like Soul Edge? Yeah…
Hhm… Add a little turn-based, take away all that unnecessary twitchy action, add an open-world environment with some explorable towns, and I'll be happy 😀
In all seriousness, I'm not really at all interested. The characters and storyline seems somewhat intriguing, however that ATB is just a pain. I really hated that thing… Sorry, FFXIII-2, you're still not doing it for me. You can be as flashy as you'd like, doesn't mean you're any better.
I was there on the ff13-2 panel and watched this trailed with all its greatness. We also asked if there were gonna be towns, butttttttt we can't say so yeah :p.. I'm pumped up for this game now.
Why oh why did SE put a QTE in a RPG!? QTEs are just plain retarded. They add nothing in terms of gameplay. Finishing blows and cutscenes should be a reward for killing an enemy or something. Instead of focusing on the screen for the action, QTEs tend to divert the attention of gamers on those pesky button sequences that pop up.
After the TGS I have decided to stop lookling at XIII-2 trailers, as that was spoiler ridden, but I still cannot wait for the game.
No kidding about the spoilers. I hate that kind of advertising. It makes you very scared of previews. So you have to decide… do you want to know about the product you are buying… or do you want to risk not knowing and potentially enjoy it to it's max (if it's good).
I'm done with cheap imitations.. If it says Final Fantasy ON the box, but it's not Final Fantasy IN the box, then I'm not buying it.
QTEs, Auto-battle, platforming, and ….the soul calibre???
Think I'll be taking a pass on this one, or digging it out of a bargain bin next generation.
Anyone check out the 11-min trailer of Final Fantasy Type-O?
It's on IGN and it looked amazing and has lot of elements, including ones missing from XIII.
Well i'm ignoring it for Ni No Kuni & Tales of Grace f 🙂 Still too disappointed with FF-XIII to play its sequel and the fact that SE put more man power in this then FF Versus XIII.
Lol, just out of curiosity, if you were/are a parent, would you let your young daughter dress like Serah? >_>
I know I wouldn't haha. Guys at square enix just had to make her dress less to get more fans or something.
I think they should change the names, if its not turn base RPG, XII was still ok though, it shouldnt have a numeral.
FF online 1 and 2 instead of FF 11 and 14
FF something 1, 2, 3 for 13, 13-2 and vs 13
If they are inclined on keeping FF in the name add something else, just like they did with FF tactics.
Now just calling it plain FF and not bein an FF game is wrong.
Change the name a little and ul have less complaints, and ppl will enjoy the games more this way.
I agree rainrox, qte's are stupid and most people i know hate them. As for the question at hand, I believe the game will have a boring PG-13 feel to the story, sadly. The fighting will be more like XIII was, as well as the level grid/crystarium system. The music is leaning towards FF VII and VIII it seems, all except for that dreadful song in all the trailers that doesn't even go with the game…go figure. The controls will be a bit more advanced than XIII with the ability to jump, sprint, and possibly fly. I'd say the overall graphics will probably be exactly like XIII with a dash of extras here and there. Maybe the ability to interact with more surroundings other than the obvious "open door/chest/item" will come into play. No big breakthroughs or changes really. I'm just hoping for a scrollable World Map and an easier way to upgrade things, unlike XIII where finding money is like a one legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen pond. Look, I know you can't polish a turd, but you CAN roll it in glitter.
