For some, this is a surprisingly easy question. For others, they'll probably have to think about it for a while.
As usual, the autumn is full of promising titles and most consumers have to create a priority list. Maybe you can only buy three or four or maybe things aren't going so great, and you can really afford only one. So let's take the latter unfortunate example for the subject of tonight's editorial: If you could only purchase one game between now and Christmas, what would it be?
This is actually pretty easy for me; it's Assassin's Creed III , no two ways about it. Not only do I fully expect it to become 2012's Game of the Year, but it also gives you a ton of bang for your buck; there's almost no chance I spend less than 35 hours with it. But also on that list are games like Dishonored (set to launch on Tuesday), for which I have extremely high hopes, and some downloadable titles such as Joe Danger 2: The Movie and The Unfinished Swan . Resident Evil 6 had been a consideration but…still not sure what happened there.
So what about you? If you're a multiplayer fanatic, Call of Duty: Black Ops II is probably a given. Then again, maybe it's Halo 4 or Medal of Honor: Warfighter ; I imagine both are top priorities for the shooter fans. You also can't forget Need for Speed: Most Wanted , which you may as well call "Burnout Paradise 2." That one should be awesome, too, and talk about bang for your buck… Fighting followers may already have their game ( Tekken Tag Tournament 2 or Dead or Alive 5 ), but we can't forget about PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale , can we?
Assassin's Creed 3. No doubt about it.
I would choose Forza Horison. And yes im serious.
DOA5 would be the one, which I have access to (you never really OWN it when it's digital =p )
Halo 4 is the only other one I'd contemplate getting before the year's end… and not for it's multi-play 😉
EVerything else are rentals or deal busters. Heck, Darksiders 2 is already $25 on Steam right now. I'll hold out for $15, or less on that one =p THQ published games drop faster than any it would seem these days.
Oh, I sorta want KZ HD. may be an impulse buy =p

Assassin's Creed III, nuff said.
As eager as I am to get my hands on 'Assassin's Creed III', were I allowed only one game, I would have to go with 'Hitman: Absolution.' I've been waiting for a sequel to 'Blood Money' since before the first 'Assassin's Creed', so there's just no competition for me. Fortunately, I'm getting them both.
DOOM 3 BFG Edition. Been excited for that game since day one. I would say Assassin's Creed 3 but I'd rather wait to buy the game of the year edition.
I already bought it. GW2…200+hrs already invested in the game and still only 60% map completion.
The rules are between NOW and Xmas.
NO! NO! NO!
::tips table over::
I'm with Vertigo on this one.
*flips table*
GW2 has been the most bang for my buck. In fact I haven't been able to rightly get into Borderlands 2 because I'm just always thinking about Guild wars.
I wanna play too! *flips table*
By now the table must be upright again…
*flip*
XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It's just different from pretty much anything else available at retail on consoles for the last four years. Barring that, Hitman Absolution. I keep forgetting about that one for some reason…
XCOM:EU is my pick as well. I've been a fan of that franchise for FAR too long not to have it on day 1.
Review coming soon.
assassins all the way.
Do I really have to say it? I think everyone here knows 🙂
Black Ops 2?
Halo4, duh.
Ummm, it's Nike+ Kinect Training 😛
Err… Seriously?
Fable Kinect! 😀
If anyone actually doesn't know just look at his bloody avatar…I'll let you do the rest of the detective work.
Dishonored all the way.
Wonder how long until someone says Black Ops 2…
..and gets laughed at 🙂
I'd say it purely based on the fact that it's a game I can play with friends. Other than that, It's easy not to pick it up.
AC 3. But I gotta be honest, all my most anticipated games slipped until q1 2013 or later, so I'm most interested in catching up on vita (expecting the ac liberation bundle for my bday) playing a handful of blockbusters like ac3 and halo 4, and replaying old favorites this season. Symphony of the night, mgs and maybe some ff 7 via psn. Oh, and still working through my very first play through of ff6 on the wii! Remarkably fun for such an old game.
Borderlands 2
^^^^^ This! If I hadn't already bought it. Best game I've played in decades. Easily. I may not stop playing it for years. Seriously!
But, according to the rules, since I already have BL2 and I have to pick something between NOW and Xmas, I'd have to say AC3.
It will be Resident Evil 6 for me. It used to be Assassin's Creed 3 but after seeing some videos of the combat gameplay I changed my mind.
Resident Evil 6 is a great game. I started RE from RE5 and RE6 is great no matter what anyone tells you.
::snicker::
Yeah! I've watched the video review of RE6(which is a bad idea) in Gamespot and it looks like a lot of fun despite of the negativity.
As for AC3, it bothers me for how simple the combat is compared to Revelations. It looks like the first AC combat with gun and a bow.
Whatever makes u happy. Who cares what other people here think.
For me it's a tossup between Dishonored and Mechwarrior Tactics. Still have high hopes for Hitman, but we'll see how that goes.
Well for me still not having a job after 17 months & with enormous money woes now, I'll have to wait for it next year when it either drops deep down in price, or get a super-cheap used copy.
I'm in the same situation. Been out of a job since last October 🙁
Not a good time for the casinos.
Geobaldi,
Yeah, really sucks doesn't it?
I've been out myself ever since Mother's day weekend, two May's ago.
World,
Don't cha know it!!!
All the casino's here in Atlantic City aren't doing so hot, & I don't want to move to another state just to work in a casino.
Plus N.J. right now is one of the highest states in unemployment, if not thee highest.
AC III, but i'll definitely get another one and thats Dishonored.
^OOPS,I forgot to say AC3 above.
It's a toss up between I don't know and uncertain. I will end up with something though. More than likely it would be Assassins Creed 3: Liberation.
Do digital games count? If so, I pick GGAC+R (that's Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus R).
I myself would get AC3, hands down. However, I'd get my younger brother to buy Sleeping Dogs for me and my younger-younger brother to get me assorted PSN Pre-paid and XBL MP Points cards so I can then accrue as much money/points as I can to get any DLC I want to get over the next while. Muahahahha
I simply want all this because my birthday is on the 30th 😛

Im not going to lie, I had to look up accrue.
Hahahahaha
Does the DLC for Dark Souls count? Otherwise, there's nothing really on my radar for a while.
DOA 5 collector's edition
Now if we were talking about all systems then Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor Edge hands down.
Honestly I buy all my games when they price drop, but the game coming out this fall that I want most is NFS Most Wanted.
If it's as good as the last most wanted I'll spend hundreds of hours antagonizing cops and seeing how long I can evade their grasp.
