Ben’s Week In Review: January 8

So who's up for the next generation? Okay, not me…but I won't have any choice. 😉

New consoles already? …oh wait, not really "already"

It's just so easy to forget how quickly time flies. When I read that report about both Microsoft and Sony showing off their new consoles at E3 this year, I was surprised. Then, seconds later, I realized it shouldn't be any surprise at all. If anything, in comparison to past generations, the announcement comes late . The Xbox 360 has been out for over 6 years now, remember, and the PS3 has been out for over 5. By this time in years past, we would've definitely heard of new consoles or in some cases, we would've already had them. It just feels like this generation has flown by primarily because A. I'm older, and B. it seemed to take a little longer for things to get rolling.

It's a bit of a struggle to accept new hardware, just because I feel the PS3 has a long ways to go. I'm relatively certain the 360 is tapped out (and has been for some time), but in looking at The Last Of Us , I got the feeling that Sony's current machine is already a true example of "next-gen." But hey, we know Sony doesn't want to lag behind this time around, so… I just don't know how excited I can get for new consoles, anymore.

Some surveys just piss me off

The vast majority seem so damn pointless. Either that, or they're completely and entirely misleading due to a variety of facts. Just look at that poll conducted at MocoSpace . It's a freakin' mobile gaming website and they're acting like hardcore gamers are abandoning consoles and PC for mobile devices. It's so outlandishly stupid. It just is. I know everyone is totally enamored with these damn smartphones and tablets, and I know Android and iOS already have some pretty cool (and fairly impressive) titles. I know that. But come on; are we really going to compare mobile games to what we have on the PS3 or PC? Or even the Vita, for that matter? No hardcore gamer I know is going to pass on Bioshock Infinite to play Angry Birds .

Real video games and real gamers honestly don't give a sh** about what's on their smartphones and tablets. There are some pleasant diversions on those devices, yes. They're great for when you're out and about (I assume), but sitting in your living room and playing on that when Gears of War 3 or Skyrim or Uncharted 3 is sitting by your side…? Never gonna happen. Not yet, anyway.

Personal gaming update

I've finally managed to tear myself away from FFVII and start Gears . I've always thought Epic's bad-ass franchise was one of the best out there; second-best third-person shooter to Uncharted . I have to say that Uncharted 3 proved the PS3 has moved into another realm when it comes to technical proficiency, because I think Gears 3 is probably the best the 360 can do. Not that it's bad; it's pretty awesome in all respects. I'm about five hours in, I think, and I'm enjoying myself as I've done with both past entries. There are a few small lingering old-fashioned issues that annoy me, but they're not worth getting in a twist about.

I'm looking forward to AMY next week, though; it's my most anticipated downloadable game of the year next to Journey . And I think it's really cool that the publishers are giving gamers the chance to choose the PSN price . That's behavior that should definitely be applauded. And I suppose I'll be playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 in a few weeks here. Did anyone see that OXM review about how the sequel "fixes everything" that was wrong with FFXIII?

I'm sorry, far be it from me to assume that Xbox gamers have any clue about this franchise (don't get all offended, geez), but from what I've heard, it didn't "fix" anything about the combat. …did it? I dunno…we'll have to see. I'm optimistic.  I am.  Swear.

You should do a review on Gears 3 Ben, be interesting what a 99% PS3 player has to say about one of the Xbox 360's biggest franchises. However when you say that Gears of War 3 is behind Uncharted 3 in the third person shooter market I'd have to disagree. Gears of War's gun play really just outdoes UC3 in every way. They're 2 different styles, but as most of us know Uncharted 3's gunplay is a little on the weak side. Uncharted 3 is the better game though in just about every other area.

The combat in Uncharted 3 is simply more realistic. And as you say, the game is better in absolutely every way, especially in regards to the artistic elements (writing, acting, design, etc.)

I've played most every 360 exclusive there is, so I wouldn't say I'm "99% PS3."

Edit: Can't really do 360 reviews on a PlayStation site. 😉 Doesn't stop me from recommending some 360 games, though, like Alan Wake.

Yea I can definitely agree that the combat is more realistic lol. Don't usually see someone running into the room with a bayonet and taking a shotgun to the face.

I really think that the only Xbox 360 exclusive (besides being on PC) that can really be compared to Uncharted 3 is Splinter Cell Conviction. I really loved that game.

The exclusives on the PS3 are second to none though, for every 360 exclusive that I enjoy, Halo, Gears and so on there's always a counter game on the PS3 that just seems to be soo much better. It's kind of a shame considering there were a lot of good exclusives coming out when the 360 first started. Now 360 owners are stuck with Kinect junk.

I think you're forgetting the difference between opinion and fact again. I don't care for first person games, so I would be one to prefer Angry Birds over Bioshock Infinite. Just because someone is sitting at home doesn't mean they HAVE to play Skyrim or Uncharted 3 simply because they want to play a game. You play what you feel like playing at the time. I love Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Arkham City and Saints Row 3, my most recent purchases. My coworkers can attest to the fact that they couldn't get me to shut about them at times. But that does not mean that I HAVE to play them when I feel like playing a little something.

I feel offended by your insistence that what you feel is how we should all feel. If you would prefer to play a console game, then fine. More power to you. But to insist hat "real" gamers don't care about smartphone or tablet games is arrogant presumption at best. It sounds to me as if you don't like those games so you think we should too. Just because I don't like first person games doesn't mean I think they have no merit, I just don't play them.

And I feel you are getting way too bent out is shape over a simple poll. You condemn them yet I don't see any Xbox games on your PSXE reader poll for game of the year. This poll is just as biased as the one you are decrying. If you had included games from other systems, likely would see results much the same as the mobile poll.

Ben Dutka PSXE

Stop being so sensitive. I never said anyone had to feel a certain way about anything. I never said a gamer would never prefer a game on a mobile device. I said hardcore gamers will not replace their hobby with mobile devices at this point in time, which is what that survey tried to suggest is happening (or will happen). You're being far too literal in your interpretation of the words, which is indicative of people who…well, don't read often. No offense (have to put disclaimers everywhere, don't I?).

And you have no clue what you're talking about concerning the poll. This is a PlayStation-oriented website. The polls reflect that. We don't take the results and then turn them into news stories complete with comments from the owners about how those results are indicative of some sort of shift in the industry. We don't conduct polls with obvious agendas.

Here's what I'm sick of: people getting butt-hurt about nothing, and then making public complaints from an ill-placed soapbox.

Last time I checked, this was a Playstation related site! But truth be told the best game that released for the 360 this year was Batman and it's not even exclusive so maybe take that into consideration also.

I also plan to post a similar poll MocoSpace did; this ISN'T a mobile gaming website and it DOES have gamers, so maybe it'll be more realistic.

Still won't go sending out news reports about it.

Oh bah, give the man a break. Why can't Buckey speak his opinion too. What is this comment field supposed to be, if not a "soapbox".
I'm so sick and tired of these kind of reactions on any kind of criticism on *anything* Ben express! Anything! They are so incredibly tiresome and uncalled for.
So lower your guards and take that comment for what it is: An on-topic post. He don't agree with this "a real gamer don't play games on their phones" attitude, or "a real gamer don't play <insert title here>" opinions and says so. So what. Big deal. It's an opinion, expressed on a soap box: This comment field.

I may or may not agree with Buckleys opinion, but I will defend his right to express it regardless.

I agree with the idea that a "real gamers" can care about smart phone gaming. As well as that a real gamer can see the merit in games that he personally is not interested in.

I believe that I am a real gamer. How I can prove that I'm unsure so you'll have to take my word for it. I might not be able to pass the Final Fantasy quiz but I sure could pass the Metal Gear test. So with my "real gamer" status hopefully successfully asserted I'd like to say that I do care about what's on my iphone.

Games are actually the reason I bought the damned thing…I've found lots more to like about it since day one but all the innovative and addictive games on it were what made me just have to have one. There is a lot of innovation and originality in the mobile market which I'd think many people would give credit for since there seems to be a lot of talk of the popularity of FPS hindering the innovation and originality in the console market.

So when it comes down to it, I think the mobile market deserves some credit all though it will NEVER replace console gaming it has it's place and I believe that real gamer's would give credit where credit is due.

I hope I'm not coming off confrontational Ben, because that is not my intention. From what you said here, " They're great for when you're out and about (I assume)" I get the impression you havnt tried much smart phone gaming? Maybe give it a try? I"m sure many here would like to hear your opinions on which games 'real gamer's' would like…I know you can't do reviews, but you could put it in another week in review.

"But truth be told the best game released for the 360 this year was Batman and it's not even exclusive so maybe take that into consideration also."

No, not truth be told, just in your opinion.

@Beamboom,

I know right. Poor guy gives an opinion & everyone picks him apart. Whats the point of discussion forums when you get grouped up on for having a different say on a matter. Let him have his say, take a deep breath & get over it. It's just a games forums, everything is going to be A-OK, i promise.

& yeah all polls are useless, that also includes the ones on this site, they're about as relevant as gamer boycott petitions.

Kevin-

Not just my opinion. I'm basing that off the numerous best 360 game awards batman won. Regardless I don't really care what the best 360 game was. So if someone wants to argue that, I'm ok with it and won't sit here and say my opinion is the right one. Wasn't trying to bother anyone, which clearly you had to say something about it.

Also not all polls on this website are "useless". Ben bases the polls off the community and always addresses them that way.

Beamboom and everyone else: Look at the difference between Buckeye's post and SubjectiveTruth's post. Do you honestly think I'd respond to both the same way?

One is a perfectly valid criticism and a question. The other is inaccurate and makes little sense. What people NEED to do is understand that NOT all criticism should be tolerated simply because it's "opinion." There is educated criticism, which I'm always willing to accept, and rambling soapbox criticism which is both meaningless and irrelevant.

SubjectiveTruth: I understand exactly what you're saying and I have indeed tried quite a few mobile games, if only to psych myself into buying a smartphone (which appears to be an outrageously stupid thing to do, but we'll see). My point concerning the survey in question stands, however, in that it was clearly done with an agenda, and it clearly proves absolutely nothing given the environment in which it was given.

And the bottom line is that the majority of hardcore gamers will not find titles that satisfy them FULLY on mobile devices. At least, not yet. Skyrim can't be on a tablet. That's only one example, of course. I see them as two very different experiences and one is simply more fitting to the avid fan of the hobby.

@Underdog: Is he really an "idiot"? Is that how you want us to talk to each other here? Is that a fair, uninsulting description? Don't you meet yourself in the doorway (that's an english expression too, right?) with a post like that? I know I'd take it insulting if you called me an "idiot" (well, you probably have at some point. :D)
And was he really insulting anyone in that post? Or merely disagreeing with what he read between the lines of Bens article?

Someone could also find it insulting when it is said, "No hardcore gamer I know is going to pass on Bioshock Infinite to play Angry Birds". It's a staple on those who play Angry Birds. I do follow his logic there. And the statement becomes particularly hillarious knowing that indeed Angry Birds is one of the most sold titles on… PSN. 😀

@Ben: I don't really see the big difference between those two posts, really I don't.
The only major difference I see is that one is more direct while the other is more careful as to not upset someone, more carefully worded, written after the response of the first is read.
That's the *major* difference I see in those two posts.

And just for the record, I agree with the essence of what you write in this article, Ben. I also agree in the sentence I quote above, and do not find it to be insulting at all. Not at all. Just this once you and me think alike. 😉
The above sentence could just as well be written by me.

But! Had Buckeyestar replied like that to me after I'd written what you wrote, then I'd not blow a fuse cause of it! That's the difference. And that's where I ask you to please cut people some slack. We are all different, and as long as the reply is worded like Buckey here I really don't think he's neither an "idiot" nor insulting. And I really don't think any of you should find it to be that way either.

Relax Kevin and Beamboom. I was just giving my opinion. I thought you guys were ok with people doing that regardless of how intelligent or baseless it is.

@Kevin
I'd debate with you, but two things are proven.

1) If I make any sort of generalization… regardless of it's truth, some people will always resort to using an exception to the rule as some sort of proof of the alternative.
and
2) I'm no one's gimp. I'm smart as hell, savvier than a pirate, stronger than an ox, sexier than George Clooney, faster, harder, AND stronger than Kanye West. It's proven that when arguing with someone who's intellect is below, it's impossible to win as their reasoning can never coincide with your own. You are an example of that type of person that cannot see any proof I lay in front of you because you lack the ability to think on the same level as me.

I want very badly to treat everyone fairly as if they have something constructive to offer. But at the end of the day, I get sick of being humble all the time. Why? Because it's just me insulting my own intelligence by acknowledging you, or some of the others here, might be right about something.

See… I don't fight over things I know nothing about. I don't set myself up for failure like that. And on the rare occasion I have been wrong, I've admitted it.

Ever wonder why I agree with things Ben, or Highlander, or World say all the time? It's because they're not freakin' morons that get sensitive the second someone doesn't agree with their opinion. What we DO get mad about… all of us… is when people deny cold hard fact in pursuit of some vain, misguided sense of morality that is established in nothing other than their own insecurity and commitment to either their inability or unwillingness to change out of FEAR that the things they've stood for would be turned upside down. Either that, or when they state opinion as if it's some proven fact against what is already presented. In either case, it's infuriating.

But hey…. if being on the winning side… the smart side… the SUPERIOR side means I'm labeled as some sort of lap dog or gimp? Well, hell, I am A-OK with that, bub. Because at the end of the day, I walk away from my computer screen to a successful life full of family and friends that aren't more sensitive than a steam-rolled pair of tiny man nuts.

Sometimes I get annoyed by such ignorance and tear-jerk reaction to someone getting called out for a bogus mind-set. "OH! But it's his opinion! He should be respected for it!" If founded in some degree of truth, yes. But let's be honest. This is the internet. If I dance around your tender emotions, any point I have will be lost. So let this ring loud and clear so as to avoid such confusion. No amount of downvotes or sob-story faux-respect-for-opinion will change anything about how stupid the OP's post is. And the flood of support he got from you ninnies was sickening. You're all (mostly) intelligent people from what I've observed. Do yourself a favor and show it. Your pussy-footing around here is doing nothing but lathering vasoline with menthol all over the place. Sure, it makes the guy feel good… but this place is freakin' slimy now.

Clean up. And god forbid I call someone out for being a nancy. Downvotes only single out the insecure. The upvoters know what I'm talking about, because they think you're ninnies too.

The article written here is not calling anyone out, nor is it insulting. Yet, people find a way to make something of it. I don't know if it's because you girls love drama or if this is some sort of outlet for whatever insecurities stem from your childhoods, but for all that is holy….

Just act like freaking men. And if you're a woman, act like a woman. All I see in front of me is sad puppy dog eyes…. as if you're the ones that are gimped in need of a crutch.

I, too, believe that the PS3 has a little bit of juice left in the tank as far as power goes, not a lot more, though. As much as I'm not ready for the next generation of consoles, it's about that time. Especially since Sony has to keep up with Microsoft, and Nintendo. I was looking around the net earlier and saw something along the lines about the next gen consoles being tablet based, like the Wii-u. Highly doubt it, but it got me thinking about how badly that'd be. Touchscreen gaming is cool, but nothing beats the feel of a controller in your hand.

I don't pay any mind to the 'analysts' and surveys that consider mobile gaming a threat to console and PC gaming. I doubt serious PC gamers would drop $700 on a new gaming rig to go play Angry Birds on their iPhone, or console gamers would skip on some AAA titles to play another mobile hit, unless they were preoccupied with something and decided they'd get a small gaming fix in.

I played Gears 1 and 2 when I used to be a heavy 360 player back then, but I decided to switch to the PS3 after 2 red rings. Plus, I thought Live wasn't worth it when I could get a free service with the PS3. The Gears franchise was great, but the 2nd was letdown, personally. The feel was off for me, I couldn't explain it. I went over a friends house when Gears 3 came out, ended up pulling an all nighter and beating it with him. It was a great experience. I'll have to agree with Nickjcal, as far as gun play goes, Gears 3 takes the cake. As far as every other aspect, Uncharted 3 wins without a shadow of a doubt.

Lastly, I too am looking forward to FF(the demo). And while my expectations aren't sky high, considering how poorly everyone says XIII did, I'll have a small glimmer of hope that it interests me. AMY looks great as well, I've followed it since it's first trailer, so I'll keep an eye out for it once my wallet fills again. Hope it's real soon.

I'm kinda bummed out about the next gen 'I consoles. Imho the ps3 has ALOT left in the tank. Yeah, the next gen is gonna be awesome, and but this gen is still amazing, and just look at games like skyrim to see what I mean.

Ben, it saddens me to hear you you tore yourself away from ff7, and as you kind of inspired me to replay ff8 on my lap. The in about to be getting the lionheart gunbladeon the first first. No cheats.

Just bought mw3 today, and it's pretty sick. So sadly for me, and my backlog keeps growing. But, no more games for me until I clean out my backlog a bit.

You absolutely have to question the agenda behind any survey. And don't even try to tell me that there isn't an agenda. Those doing it will always try to skew their results to give them either what they want to see, or at least something controversial, which is exactly what has gone on with this one. Unless I'm pressed for time, I simply won't be playing a mobile phone game over a console game. Of course, PSP games are a different matter, but I haven't been playing them much in the last few months.

Every new console at E3… I'll believe it when I see it. I know that Sony doesn't want to be behind again, and that Microsoft want to be able to compete on equal terms with Nintendo, but I don't think we'll see all three. It is, perhaps, too early for something new from both MS and Sony as they like to cater to the core crowd. I'm thinking that one of them will be there, but the other will be some way behind with a design that has monster specs to usher in a new generation on their own terms. Maybe I'm dreaming.

PU:
Put Skyrim and MCLA aside. Now playing through the Ico/SotC collection. Finished reading A Tale of Two Cities, so I'll be going back to the Jane Austen novels, but I'm undecided as to which one to read next. I'm thinking Pride and Prejudice. I'll see. Not much else I think.
Peace.

The agenda is clear, yes. That's the frustrating part.

Loved A Tale of Two Cities. If you haven't read Dickens' other classic – Great Expectations – I would strongly advise it. If you want something similar to Austen, there's always Wharton. The Age of Innocence is one of my all-time favorite books.

I'll be getting into Great Expectations when I can find a copy. I absolutely loved A Tale, so I'll be looking into much of Dickens' catalogue in the future. I saw The Age of Innocence last time I was in the bookstore, but was looking into a few other titles at the time, I'll put it on the list though. I've also recently been looking into Evelyn Waugh, but have not yet gotten around to reading anything by him. I wondered if you had and, if so, would be willing to share your thoughts on his works.

new consoles? like most i'm not ready for them, gaming and financial wise. i got a ps3 shortly after launch, paid about $1000 because they only came in bundles, because of the shortage. this time i'm waiting till they clear out the launch models. lower price with i assume the best configuration like the launch ps3s. i will buy games when they get pretty cheap, before greatest hits status. basically i'll build up my backlog before i get a ps3. kinda like how i got the first dragonball z budokai and marvel vs capcom 2 before i got a ps2.

dont care about survey/polls, i think they're just useless. my college professor asked my group to do surveys concerning what we were trying to build. the damn answers were so obvious i just BSed it and handed it it. i'm not about to waste my time on those especially when im not interested.

PGU: i've been playing battlefield 3 whenever i can. i think i'm also close to the end of resistance 3, i love all the weapons and the fact that you carry all of them. my to do list now is mass effect 2, assassins creed revelations, arkham city new game plus, mgs hd collection, dynasty warriors 3 gundam, sports champions, and the fight lights out. also got skyward sword on the wii plus i bought metroid other m for $10. my brother bought himself mw3 so i guess i dont have to waste money to play campaign so thats a plus.

i'm above 2.5 million xp in battlefield 3, got all class unlocks, 100% trophies for bf3 and back to karkand, and i'm still not bored with it. i guess i'll work on my vehicle unlocks to finish them up.

At the moment i am getting mega pumped for Soul Calibur V in the coming weeks, still trying to figure out the last remaining four characters but i'm guessing it's Talim, Zasalamel & replacement characters for Yunsung & Setsuka.

Anyway the game is looking stunning, the gameplay looks fluid as usual & the character creation looks to be the deepest yet. Can't wait to sink my teeth into it. Other games i'm looking forward to are Ninja Gaiden 3 (DOA5 demo = win), Street Fighter X Tekken, Skullgirls, Mass Effect 3 & Silent Hill Downpour.

I am still on the fence with RE: Operation Raccoon City though, i think the Heroes mode looks good allowing us to use old fan fave RE characters but i hate the fact we're playing as boring sh1t named SWAT officers such as hunk (fail) instead of the iconic cast like Jill, Leon, Ada etc. I know Capcom loves to spew on it's franchise (in which it has already done a good job of) but atleast give this latest action shooter RE ….. a meaty single player campaign with some references to the classics RE games. The enemy variety is doing a good job of that thus far with the lickers, Mr X & now Birkin making boss appearances. Keep that sort of stuff up & i will gladly shell out the dollars on this one but if it's just all going to be this marines Vs zombies garbage then i'll leave it alone. Six Slant should really keep their SOCOM filth out of my RE's.

PGU: I've recently discarded all my old King of Fighter games as i feel i no longer need them with the recent KOF XIII dominating my game time. I've also been playing TTT2 Prologue demo & smashing out the combos in preparation for the admittedly long wait for TTT2.

yea its been 6 years since it released, but you have to remember allot of people only got it within the past 2 years so for most of the market it is already.
no ones ready for a new console generation yet.
consumers are not, most just bought a new console and TV, and am happy with them.
developers are not ready for it, they have not done everything they can do with current systems!
and manufactures are not ready for it, $onys been posting massive losses ever since the ps3 came out!
the more they can milk it the better.
amazing how you can go from top of the tree kicking the sh*t out of everyone, to stone cold dead last in the matter of only 6 years!
nor is the tech ready, theres allot of new things coming on the market and no one knows which is going to stick.
nothing worse then betting on one horse, then it totally drops out not even making it to the starting line.
cough HD DVD.
too early in the life cycle of new tech too, you want to stay away from that stuff till the kinks have been worked out.
look at bluray drives, ps3s were strolling into and out of repair centres because of faulty bluray drives!
mine on my 60GB only lasted 4 months before i had to get it replaced!
or even have a look at OLED screens with the black screen issues happening to allot of smartphones and even the vita.
sit back and let the others be the testing mules.
yea that means being late to the party, but id much rather be late to the party and ready.
then late to the party half dressed, and falling asleep within half a hour!

wrong, real gamers give a sh*t about EVERYTHING no matter where it is!
im sick of this notion that mobile gaming is only capable of angry birds!
a awesome game is a awesome game, it does not matter what its on!
theres a reason why i have every current gaming platform, the days where good games were exclusive to one system or even one type of system are long gone!

to be honest infinity blade 2 impressed me a sh*t load more then what uncharted 2 or even golden abyss has!
you have freaking boss battles the size of them in gears 3, but on a freaking phone!
if thats not going to interest a "hardcore" gamer then nothing will!
thats exactly the problem with the PSP and DS now, and even the vita.
there doing exactly what mobiles are doing, but thats just not impressive at all.
there dedicated gaming devices, they should be able to do more!
i really, really hope developers realise this and really try to raise the gap between phone and mobile games in the year to come.
the gap between PSP and phone games use to be 10 fold, now there equal if not mobile games ahead!
mobile games have shot through the roof, where handheld console games have not raised the bar in years!
handheld games ATM are the COD, same sh*t year in year out!

thats whats mostly impressive with phones, when consoles and the vita do it its no big deal, thats what there made for.
but when phones do it its a whole other kettle of fish.
thats why theres still this uncertainty among developers if the vita is a worthwhile platform to work on.
why are epic still iffy on the vita, but there all over every other platform like the easy hooker in the city?
my jaw went through 20 floors when they announced infinity blade has netted them 30M bucks in one year!
30M for a bloody phone game!
allot of developers are unsure of the vita simply because theres has been no innovation pushing the medium forward.
and because of that they dont see the interest in the community.
if manufactures are going to spend 10s of millions of bucks on a platform they need to see the enthusiasm in the community, they need to be receiving letters every day asking why there not working on the platform yet.
i just dont see that excitement about the vita.
look where mobile gaming has come in the past 5 years, and compare that to the PSP and DS!
phones and their games have come light years, handheld devices though have barley left the street!

i really hope handheld consoles shake off this stagnant and do what smartphones are doing now, if not then the vita and 3Ds will truly be the last of their kind!
there is definitely a market out there for high priced handhelds, always will be.
BUT there has to be the innovation creating the interest and demand for it.
if its going to stay still the way it has the past few years then its dead in the water!
mobile gaming really has killed off the handheld, but not because its stolen the interest.
because its caught up and shown how much better it is!
so now its the turn of handhelds to bite back, and again increase the bar.
exactly like PC gaming, the gap between PC and console games use to be massive.
now, not so much.
and what are we seeing?
fewer and fewer PC exclusive games.
fewer and fewer developers interested and willing to push the medium.
hmmmmmmm i wonder why……….

I've moved to a new flat, so no real internet connection until I get the needed boxes, in three weeks time (using my mobile as modem now). 🙁 But oh boy what a phat speed I will enjoy once I get the new connection running: A 70gb connection speed! Yay! That's an unthinkable speed in a private household over here only a few ears ago… Can't wait!

Personal Gaming Update:

LA NOIRE:
So finally I got this game. While playing I keep thinking: "Oh my how diverse and wonderful the world of gaming is turning into nowadays!".
This game is much closer to how *I* would like to be able to "play a movie" than anything else I've played. It's an interesting combination of being linear but still open and very much has the overall feeling of a classic movie, including the crucial "slower parts" that's typically just tucked into a cut scene or ignored altogether in traditional games.

And the technology! How the facial expressions shift almost from one word to the next! I never expected it to be *this* good! This is a game that should be experienced.

ALICE: MADNESS RETURNS:
This is my "guilty pleasure" for 2011. By all means, I think it's meta rating is fair, but it's got that little "something" that makes me ignore the ugly and focus on the beautiful bits. It probably helps a lot that it has a thick coating of oldschool flavour.

But the game I really miss playing, is
SAINTS ROW THE THIRD:
My coop buddy an I have promised each other to not touch the game until I am back online and we can continue in coop. So it will have to wait until the internet is back up.

I'm not ready for the next generation of consoles. I want Sony to be ready for it though. It would be nice if the next gen started off without all the trash being swept in Sony's direction.

Mobile gaming has never been an interest of mine. I'd rather sit in front of a big screen tv and play.

Games are starting to pile up in my 'to play' box now that Christmas is over. I've been buying all the games that I've had to wait on and they're outpacing my ability to complete them.

I have the MGS hd collection and a replacement copy of MGS4 due to arrive Wednesday. I have a lot of games to play, but I'm not complaining.

I'll admit to being a little curious about the vita. Unfortunately it would just sit idle if I bought one, no matter how awesome of a little device I thought it was.

I forget who said it, but it's true – "you can arrange numbers to support any fact"

I too feel the PS3 has plenty of life left in it – traded in my 360 a few months ago because it was collecting dust. But then saw the limited edition Star Wars XBox and preordered it – the cycle continues!

Does anyone know of a XBox site that is similar to this (and Ben) in nature? Love the site and the maturity level here, looking for something along these lines on the other side of the console fence…

I think you mean that wonderful phrase (Disraeli?) that talks of three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies and statistics.

Definitely fits most surveys since they are as skewed as can be.

I'm 90% sure that's Mark Twain.

Correction: Twain claimed to be quoting Disraeli, but the aphorism apparently doesn't appear in Disraeli's papers. Authorship is in question.

Just doing Mass Effect 2, AC: Revelations, Dead Island, Rage and Disgaea 4 at the moment. Had Catherine to do too, but finished that brilliant game not long ago and got the normal lovers ending.

AC: Revelations is the one eating my time at the moment. 30hrs on Disgaea 4, so need to take my attention elsewhere and Ezio is proving worthy!

Mass Effect 2 is on hold.

Dead Island is….not bad. Getting repetitive and i'm no more than 5hrs in! Maybe co-op will spice it up.

Rage i have only just began….1st thing that hit me….60fps makes such a dramatic difference!

Add "flingpartner" to the list of banned words. please. These posts are really starting to be annoying, cause they are not so easy to spot as those other spams.
