Certainly has been an interesting week, hasn't it? I so can't wait for Resistance 3 …
Showdown: Enslaved vs. Castlevania
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West will launch on October 5 . Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will release on…you guessed it, October 5 . There are plenty of big fall titles but it's always fun when two equally promising games fall on the exact same day, right? It's very difficult to choose between the two but for now, I'm going to go with Ninja Theory's project by a slim margin. I like the colorful environments more (ala Uncharted ), and I've seen some footage that leads me to believe the developers will do some neat-o things with those two very distinct characters. Lords of Shadow looks great, too, but the fact that it looks like a conglomeration of Dante's Inferno and God of War – while hardly a bad thing, per se – sort of gives it a "been there, done that" feel. Of course, if it's awesome, I won't really care. But on the history side…well, it's a no-brainer.
Look, they've never made a stellar 3D CV entry and Ninja Theory already has Heavenly Sword to its name. Mercury Steam did Clive Barker's Jericho . …yeah. If we're looking at the past, and that's all we can really do until the final product is in front of us, we have no choice but to give the edge to Enslaved right now.
Insomniac, you guys rule
Next to the Mass Effect 2 on PS3 announcement, Insomniac definitely made the biggest splash at GamesCom this past week. They're working on two very awesome projects and although I recognize and respect the greatness of the Ratchet & Clank series, I'm all sorts of psyched for Resistance 3 . If you didn't catch the GC 2010 debut trailer, it's right here:
No gameplay but when they put this amount of effort into a trailer, one just has to feel encouraged. I always say R2 never got enough love and while Killzone 2 has set the FPS bar (and soon, Killzone 3 will probably set it again), I trust Insomniac to deliver an awesome experience. I just can't wait to see some in-game footage.
Personal gaming update
Due to a busy week that included helping a friend in building his house, getting the car waxed, getting to a few appointments, covering the big GC 2010 news, and reviewing Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days and Top Gun , I didn't get a chance to finish up Alan Wake . But I'll take care of that this week, even though I expect to see Mafia II . September looks pretty dull, although I will have to play Halo: Reach – and it's the last Halo I will ever play if it doesn't feel fresh – and I'll be interested to see how Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 comes out. There isn't another game I really want until October so when I'm done with Alan Wake , I might play through Uncharted 2 again. It's just that good and I've always wanted to replay it.
Obviously, I'm still working my way through "War and Peace," which I greatly enjoy…primarily because I'm partly insane. 😉
Mortal Kombat!!!!! I loved those commercials.
So far this week, I re-conquered Resistance 2, and am almost finished re-conquering Infamous on the good side (currently at 305/350 shards). So, I'll probably spend a good chunk of Sunday getting that finished. Just noticed I never finished the game on Infamous either, so I guess I'll be restarting and doing that right after.
Can't recommend re-conquering Uncharted enough, my roommate and I have conquered it 5 times so far. I doubt highly we're finished with it.
I'm surprised you gave the GC nod to Insomniac/Resistance, from what I hear Gran Turismo blew the roof off with a slew of new information and confirmation of a track editor. But, no big deal or anything, just heard good things about PD's showing.
Enjoy Uncharted 2!!!

Don't forget the blast shard on the garbage spire.
I already knew GT5 was going to rule before GC. I didn't know anything about R3 before the show. 🙂
I don't think we know anything about R3 still.
@ WorldEndsWithMike: Bingo.
@ Ben:
Right on, to each their own of course, any GT news is good in my book, though 😉
Who cares? Resistance 3 is coming! That's all I need to know. 🙂
LoL, I have the same feelings towards GT man.
Just bougth scott pilgrim and its really good and really hard especially when your playing by yourself.Made it all the way to the last boss but kept on dying.
Got flower and its amazing !!! I hope there will be an update to support move.
Still haven't beated those stupid weapons in FF7.Anyone got any tips? (My best characters are cloud, vincent, and cid).Just finished all the chocobo treasure hunting in FF9. Now I need to fint the rest of the coins.
Wow ever since mass effect 2 was announced for ps3 all the xbox fans are saying that the game was bad anyways and are using sales numbers for an excuse to say xbox is still better.Well of to subway to hopefully win something.
Have fun gaming 🙂

Someone keeps on missing the thumbs up button
Wish me luck guys, I'm off to the Casino Monday morning to stay the night. Although I'm sure I'd get a lot more out of the money I'm gonna burn playing PS3 games instead of casino games… oh well. Weeeeee!

If you win big, post a GT5 copy to me.
World, "GOOD LUCK!!!
What Casino, & where????
I want both Castlevania & Enslaved now.
I saw a new enslaved video somewhere(still trying to backtrack to find it again to post it, & it's not from PSXE or YouTube) that I though was f'ing great.
Also, now I'm also no longer worried in the slightest thatEnslaved would wind up being one big babysitting chore cause Monkey does actually have a mind of his own, & he'll let Trip know it too. LOL
As for my own updates….
On my PS3,
Due to lingering intermittent carpel tunnel keeping me from doing the last 2 up-link missions in "inInfamous", I've set it aside for a bit to do some of my huge backlog of other PS3 games.
So I just finished both Fear 1 & Fear 2(F2 was tons more seriously freaky-deaky to me, especially from the time you enter the elementary school, to the climatic, cliff-hanging end.
Then I started "Jericho" yesterday, but got really bored with it in no time, so I'll just go back to it when I've not nothing else I want to play(which sadly means probably never).
So I finally ended up popping in "Alone in the dark:Inferno" for about hour before bed last night & I'm digging it so far. And for AITD being an older 2008 game, I was surprised to even see any notices that I got trophies popping up on my screen.
I also picked up LBP GOTY edition tonight(cost me only 99 cent after taxes when all was done), so I'll probably just do aquickie sampling of it for now, until I have a enough free time to put a serious hurting on the game.
On my double180 bot-box,
Just bought 2 double games for it,
"Banjo-Kazooie:Nuts & Bolts"/"Viva Pinata", and "Lego:Batman"/"Pure".
Hell, just not enough time in a day anymore, so I'm either going to need to find a time-portal machine, or a seriously modded Deloreon(sp?) that's stuck in reverse.
What about Insomniac making another Spyro?
I would also like Naughty dog make another Crash game, which I think I might want more then Uncharted 3… maybe?
The world would freeze for a bit in awe of those two companies going back to make an amazing sequel for those games….
Imagine what they could do with ps3's technology…
Won't happen, but it would be great.
—
I'd like to see Naughty Dog develop a "mascot" game in their "off years" like Imsoniac does with R&C.
And would be cool that if Imsoniac decides to R&C that they create a new mascot/series.
one can dream!
though, will never happen because insomniac no longer have the spyro license and nor do ND have the crash license.
well, if gameinformers to be believed they do, but, well they have misinformed us plenty of times so i seriously doubt its true!
id kill for it to be true, theres nothing in the world i want more!
but………..
Hell, I'd love to see them do another Crash game, just for the return of those hilarious commercials alone.
I get this strange feeling that due to Resistance 3 taking longer to hit the consoles that Insomniac has something real special planned. Expect a rather large increase in graphical fidelity and something ground breaking in terms of co op. The trailer although live action really gave off a left 4 dead co op vibe

I just want the Tokyo Game Show to get here
But other than that psyched for GT5 and LBP2, the stuff from Gamescon is amazing
i guess i'm gonna be playing both without losing any money. the only problem is which game to borrow first.
its hard to say which would be better, Enslaved or Castlevania because there such different games.
im really looking forward to both, i hope we get a demo for them.
the vanquish demo is apparently releasing on the JP PSN network next week, god knows when will be getting it.
as for insomniac, i was really disappointed.
i was really hoping for a new full fledged sequel to R&C ACIT, not some co-op patch!
i really miss playing the old styled R&C games, there witty remarks have slowly dissolved as the series has gone on.
oh, what i would do for a R&C collection!
as for R3, its nice to see its in production, no matter how obvious it was!
i just hope they stick to the first game, FOM was a classic, one of my favorite shooters this gen!
resistance FOM = one of the generations best shooters!
resistance 2 = one of the generations most disappointing shooters!
i always said insomniac dont know how to make a bad game, but resistance 2 came dam close to proving me wrong!
All 4 One is not a "co-op patch" for ACiT as you say. It fits into the canon of the original R&C series. Insomniac has stated numerous times that they have finished with the Future arc and so any more games will either revert to the original storylines, or be placed in a new timeframe.
Sure, it may not be the same as the originals, but a new direction isn't necessarily a bad thing is it?
Peace.
no, i would not call it a bad thing but its so different from the series.
this would be a perfect addition to the next R&C game, a addition being the key word as a standalone its not really sufficient.
its like having MW2s MP mode as the game and not have the SP mode.
i wish insomniac would go back to the old style of R&C, as much as i liked the future ark its still my favorite ps3 game, but up your arsenal is still and probably always will be the best R&C!
im not really interested in Enslaved or Castlevania and proberly wont get either, since there are too many good games coming out by the end of this year.
But im really lookin forward to resistence 3, i think it will end up being a big suprise.
PGU: bought resistence FOM and completed it in a couple of days, great story, hoping to get 2 soon so i know the full story ready for 3.
Im also going to try and plat ferrarie challenge since it glitched and never give me the trophie for completing arcade on ledgend, so now i have to do it again on a new save :(.
i think r3 will have a kick ass singleplayer but i didnt enjoy 2s mp much having luved the firsts
I'm actually looking forward to Enslaved, it's the only game so far in the late 2010 which could be a first day purchase for me. I really just want an adventure game which is not focused on shooting, the action is appearently 30% of the game which is better odds than most games nowadays.
Though i am also looking forward to Brotherhood, but i have yet to play ACII so that will be the first thing i do when i get my student loan in late september.
I can't wait for Resistance 3, loved the 1 & 2. very curious to see what they will do with it. A co-op campaign is a must.

Enslaved is one of those games where I watch the trailer and it looks like a ton of fun. Castlevania looks like a good game as well, but I dunno. Enslaved is "I really wanna get that!" while Castlevania is "I'll read the review."
I'm still playing Red Dead Redemption and enjoying it quite a bit. The atmosphere is just fantastic – riding through the desert at night, looking up at all the stars in the sky. I often have to stop riding my horse just so I can look around at how fantastic the scenery is. I get a kick out of all there is to do in the game as well. Last night I wasn't having much luck with some missions I was trying to complete, so I played some liars dice and then got into a poker game – cleaned everybody else out!
Got Dark Void this week. It didn't get the best reviews but I had fun with the demo, and it was only $14. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion GOTY should be arriving soon as well. I want to get the Saboteur also; that game has always intrigued me. That should be a pretty full schedule until GT5 comes out. Hopefully I can find some time for Enslaved.
My PC friends just gang raped me. (Not literally) I was telling them how great it would be if they got a PS3 ect. Then they started an argument "Consoles are trash, PC FTW blah blah blah". its funny cuz the PS3 is more powwerful than 90% of PCs. Anyway…I think PC fanboys should just STFU and accept that consoles are better.
more powerful than 90%^ of PCs?
you do realize the tech in the ps3 was what you found in a 2007 PC right?
any new PC would kick the royal tripe out of the ps3 and 360 put together!
not to mention theres so much more you can do with a PC, being able to pause a game and hop online for a guide really comes in handy!
than theres the mods, and most DLC for the PC ends up being free!
lol Sorry, I was typing really fast, I was going to quote Patcher on something about the PS3 being more powerful than PCs ect. But I think you get you my point. Jes' my opinion that console gaming is better, and that PC gamers shouldn't brag or put down console gaming.

yeah i think that pc's in general at this time has greater specifications than those of ps3 and xbox 360 but u should know that PC's are not dedicated for gaming as do ps3 or xbox ,in PC's a lot of its power is dedicated for the operation system along with other services running in the back ground

thats so not true, in fact the OS footprint on PCs is smaller than on consoles.
windows 7 runs perfectly with 256MBs of RAM, now considering all PCs these days come with 4GBs thats much smaller than the ps3s footprint.
though, PC gaming is extremely expensive!
i got a 470GTX the other day expecting to max everything out and get a easy 60FPS but on metro 2033, stalker, BFBC2 and such i can barley get 20!
1 9800GTX and 1 470GTX and i can barley get 30FPS.
its certainly a expensive hobby, but SO worth it!
i dunno why but i enjoy playing games allot more on the PC, like i really did not like metro 2033 much on the 360 but on the PC i cant get enough of it!
Ive been pretty busy the past month, but I finally got into Modnation Racers this past week. It just reeks of awesomeness. I could sit there for 8 hours just making stuff. I still haven't given the track creator nearly enough time either, I'll get into that this week. I want to make all the characters from Doug first though.
I really have high hopes for resistance 3 i really need that game to be well introduced to players more that that of the second part,I still dont know why the second part of game wasnt appreciated by gamers
it was tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome
my gaming experience : I'm playing at this moment army of two :40 day along with my brother on a split screen co-op and we are really enjoying it and I think this game my deserve a better review in general ,I think it one of the best co-op shooting game in the market at this moment, still looking for some time to go back and play MAG because simply i cant get enough from it
Wow, those boys over at Insomniac sure know how to put together a good trailer. I've been looking for a good excuse to send them more money. I might have to give the Resistance series a try.
just heard that the ps3 version of mafia 2 is inferior to the 360 version, PS3 version of this game will be lacking grass, blood splatter, and clothing physics in the final build, key visual features that the 360 version will have.
http://n4g.com/news/585419/mafia-ii-final-ps3-build-has-no-grass-less-blood-and-inferior-cloth-movement
I'm tired of paying for inferior PS3 multiplats, so I canceled my one
This week I've been replaying Ys I and II (TurboGrafx16) again, until I can get Ys 7…
And Dragon Quest 9 (DS) and Wonderboy III: The Dragon's Trap(Master System).
Oh, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (PSN). It's freaking awesome! Like River City Ransom on 'roids. 😀
And I'm really excited for Metroid Other M next Tuesday.
ben, isn't the new castlevania like gow1 and 2 in terms of the puzzle solving? How does it look? I've seen very vague actual gameplay of the game. I'm referring to the ps3 version by the way.
That, I don't know.
I'm all for CastleVania, being a fan dating back to the original on the NES and in those weird NES-styled arcades. Plus, I'm a huge mark for Symphony of the Night, and keep giving Konami all the chances they deserve to replicate that experience (not the game itself, just the experience of that game) in a full, living three-dimensional environment.
My gaming week went like this: my PS3 stopped reading discs of any kind, the lens was prolly really effin' dirty, but I didn't dare open it to try to clean it, or I may destroy the thing altogether. I was using one of my roommates, and kept getting noobtubed on MW2, and got as angry as I did when I was a lot younger. I threw my controller on the floor and it bounced up and smacked my television. 50+ inch Samsung plasma… dead and gone. Only had it since April of this year. News got slightly better when I returned my PS3 after having it for a little over two years to Costco (buy your consoles at Costco, it falls under their satisfaction guarantee, meaning you can return it practically any time for a full refund). I got $550 for the machine, bought a new slim and a Tekken 6 arcade stick (finally, but the sad part is that I didn't buy it for the stick, or the game, 'cause I already owned the game. I just wanted the friggin' art book, so I paid eighty bucks for an artbook. Hahaha, dang,). Got the machine home, set it all up, and the next day decided to put my 500gb harddrive back into the machine that I bought for my original.
Well, firmware 3.41 didn't so much like that idea and said, "THIS IS NOT THE HARDDRIVE I WAS LOOKING FOR" and required me to redownload the update on my laptop, slap it into the PS3 slim via flash drive, and… presto! I have to reformate the harddrive… and lost everything I had saved to it in almost two years (i kinda sorta backed up the original 40gb harddrive onto a different flash drive that no longer works, so… I got nothing!).
Thankfully, I was wanting to start over on every game I own (with three exceptions, GoWIII, Assassin's Creed II, and Resident Evil 5 'cause I was really close to platinuming all three) on a new profile.
The only game I've played all week was Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, 'cause I'm a comic nerd.
The forced reformat of the hard drive is normal and not a function of 3.41.
It even happens when you send a PS3 to Sony for repairs.

If your a comic book nerd. u should check out manga. it literally blows away the typical comic book franchises. Okay, you or other people get excited about the next big comic book that becomes a movie. But with manga, their anime is mostly based on the manga. You don't necessarily have to go out and buy a manga to see if you like it. Go online and read and or watch the anime, (preferably the subtitled version) for free. then you choose if you want to support it.
Granted, manga books are in black and white, there half the size of a typical hardcover book, but the pages are typically an inch thick.
Hey, it's up to you.
Thanks for the suggestion, my friend, but you're about twenty-years too late. I've been reading Japanese comics since 1992 and watching anime since 1990. Which… doesn't seem that long ago.
However, I disagree with you. Greatly. I've read many American comics in the past twenty-six years since I started (I read my first comic at eight years old) from all over the world and while our comics aren't always written and drawn by Americans, those Brits often give us the best work in the medium. There is no Japanese equivalents of Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis or Garth Ennis. But even from a purely American standpoint, Brian Michael Bendis, Brian Azzarello, Ed Brubaker, Greg Rucka, Frank Miller, Will Eisner, so on and so forth.
My current favorite comic book being published ANYWHERE is Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead. Being a huge fan of George A. Romero's zombie flicks, this is the best thing to happen to zombie fiction since Romero ripped Richard Matheson off to make Night of the Living Dead in the 1960s. Everyone should read that comic. Or at least watch AMC's television version of it in October.
@MPB
You forgot about Geoff Johns. His work on GL has literally turned the franchise into more of a household name than ever before. Hopefully he can to the same to the Flash cause man oh man does it deserve it.
