Obviously, we've already seen some amazing games this year. It'd be no exaggeration to say that we've seen at least a few absolute gems, and that includes God of War III , Red Dead Redemption , Heavy Rain , Super Mario Galaxy 2 , Bioshock 2 , Bayonetta , Battlefield: Bad Company 2 , Final Fantasy XIII and others. And looking into the summer months…well, we're not really seeing much of anything in the way of must-have titles. …but are we really complaining?
Look, I'm all for a continuous influx of great games. That being said, each game does cost a decent chunk of money and we don't necessarily have hours on end every day to play. I refuse to believe that absolutely everyone has been able to play through every great 2010 production thus far, and let's not forget that we saw the typical flood of awesome titles towards the end of 2009, too. In reality, it really hasn't let up since October of last year (with the exception of April, which was mostly dead despite Super Street Fighter IV and Nier showing up) and personally, I'm way behind. I still have to finish 3D Dot Game Heroes and Nier , and I now want to start over in Red Dead Redemption so I can attack it as I would any in-depth RPG. So yeah, I'm not that disappointed to see a break in the action. And I would strongly suggest that y'all take advantage of this lull and play catch-up for a while. Hey, there are a lot of long games out there, too!
I think we all need a little downtime that allows us to catch up on a backlog of games. And while I still say I'm disappointed in how Alpha Protocol turned out (review coming soon), I'm almost happy that I have no desire to add it to my "must-play more" list. See, I really hate having games I never completed in my collection…so maybe it's just me. But I doubt it.
Usually summer time is the best gaming for me. The heat here in Cleveland is too much (humid and thick) to spend outdoors. I crank the AC and game away.
Also I agree, there was no time to play all the AAA titles that came out this year. I got a tremendous backlog to keep me busy.

Same here I've yet to play GOW3 and Red Dead Redemption so there's plenty to keep me occupied.
It's hotter than a pistol here in Minnesota, humid as well. Air conditioning is the greatest invention of all time.
Well, to the point where, like myself, I have the AC on constantly, at home and in the office… the heat never lets up in Singapore… and, quite frankly, can be a terrible existence… because of that I am immigrating to New Zealand… there I will have the other extreme, but happy for it…
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
@World – agree about the heat in Minnesota. Can't believe I was complaining about the cold just a few months ago! 🙂
But yes – I'm finally making a noticeable dent in my gaming backlog.
try the heat here in south florida. whew it's hotter than 3 hells
I despise the summer mainly because kids are on break, and family visits which means no gaming time for myself. Oh and of course the blistering heat.
I just beat Red Dead Redemption yesterday. (Epic Ending). Plus I just ordered God Of War 3 off of Amazon.com. Its only 44.99 and you get a $10 gift card with the purchase.
I have enough to keep me busy until summer is over. I have yet to complete the Bad Company 2 campaign. Saving it for a rainy day.
Lets see, ill be playing:
Red Dead Redemption, Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Super Street Fighter IV, Uncharted 2 multiplayer, then Metroid Other M is released at the end of August so my summer is pretty full. Red Dead will take me awhile i suspect and I've also got the itch to play through the campaign again on Uncharted 2. So I'm set like a squirrel ready for winter.

I am going to be JUST fine without any more must-have titles for awhile. Of course things will kick back into gear when Fallout New Vegas releases in the Fall.
Here is my schedule: Currently playing RDR and Star Ocean TLHI and I also need to beat 3DDotGameHeroes.
Also my shelf has Wet, Nier, X-Blades, and Fallout 3 GOTY (I wanted the expansions) waiting for me to get to them. So I think I'll be fine 🙂 What have you guys got laying around?
Aaaah i completely forgot a bout 3D Dot! As i was typing i kept telling myself there was something i was forgetting. Add that to my list as well.
Do u have problems with Star Ocean like Highlander? I'm planning to buy it at some point.
What problems did he have? I haven't run into any other than the camera is retarded sometimes and a couple technical issues but no deal breakers. I'm only like ten hours in but I'm having a blast with it.
I guess some of them were defective. I can't remember what he said was wrong with it but i do remember he said some peoples copies didn't work for some reason.
I do. i gotta catch up on a few games
Uncharted *cough cough
I welcome any game drought since I'm not in school anymore.
Alpha Protocol didn't turn out well? How am I supposed to live out my Burn Notice fantasies now?

New episodes in June 🙂
Actually regarding the wii can anyone give me some recommended titles worth having for it? I bought one a while back but didn't end up using it a frequently as I'd hoped.
Super Paper Mario is a fun and funny game if you can find it. It's also a side-scroller by the way.
Mad World. Get it.
MURAMASA! MURAMASA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zack and Wiki is an unknown puzzle gem.
You didn't mention what games you DO have, so I recommend the obvious Mario Galaxy games, Zelda, Metroid, and the New Super Mario Brothers has great multi player action. Wii Pikmin is great also.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade is one of my Wii favorites.
Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are both great. New Super Mario Brothers Wii also so good. Mario Kart. Metroid Prime Trilogy if you can find it. I personally enjoyed Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World. And if you like chill games like harvest moon then Rune Factory Frontier can be a lot of fun.
Zelda: Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Tatsunoko vs Capcom,Super Paper Mario.
I have also heard good things about Red Steel 2 but i have never played it.
any Zelda.
Mario Galaxy 2
Sweet I've written them down.
Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2 are the bee's knees.
I'll be playing SMG2 most of the summer, along with Rogue Galaxy for ps2. As soon as i finish going through GT4 again now that i have a wheel.
Rogue Galaxy is pretty sweet.
I know I definitely feel overwhelmed by the number of high quality games out there. I want to play them all, but sadly lack the time. If this year had happened when I was in university, I would have flunked out.
I'm torn on the issue, though. I want more high quality games, but I don't want to get further behind either.
Yeah this year could have been a schoolkiller for anyone still in.
I don't welcome it. I'm having fun with Red Dead Redemption, but there aren't really any games out right now that I see myself playing…. I want another good sandbox game, like Mafia II and hopefully soon Infamous 2. I'm also looking forward to Medal of Honor and Spec Ops: The Line.
I wasn't expecting Red Dead Redemption as a must have. Who knows if anything else will sneak out.
I absolutely don't mind game releases slowing down. But, for me, it seems that they're still pouring in. I like good racers, and Split Second looks great. The devs have taken extra effort to load graphical tasks onto SPU's…( it's not your average multi-platform game). In fact (and I haven't read a thorough comparison) the PS3 version enjoys a small resolution enhancement over the 360 version.
Speaking of 360. Through really unusual circumstances I have a Xbox 360 again. I've given that Bayonetta demo a try (on 360 this time) and despite my earlier impressions I've had a change of heart. It's on my must-play list for the year. I just want to snag it when it's cheap. I don't think there's ever been such a wealth of quality games prior to now.. There's just so many..
I'm trying to score $30 for Bayonaise on ebay but it looks like I'll have to lower it unless I get a last minute bid.
WorldEndsWithMe, I think Gamestop had it going for $30 new for a few weeks. Perhaps a lot of fence-sitters purchased it then. I'm holding out for a price closer to $20
I know it's late in the game, but Bayonetta was $30 on release Tuesday at Toys R Us because it came with a $30 gift card. I'm surprised it hasn't dropped below $30 yet.
its stayin around 30 on ebay tho
Maybe we, as gamers, should embrace episodic games. Top notch experiences in a smaller, cheaper package?
Sam & Max come to mind.
I wouldnt consider FF XIII a gem. just saying…

Now 90 hours in it and I'm thinking just that 😀
I finished it all too soon. ohhhh the horor.
I, for one, am glad for the drought. I'm way behind. From Darksiders to Super Mario Galaxy 2, there have been too many must-haves in the last five months.
Props on Darksiders, I enjoyed that one more than I expected I would. Even with the so-so graphics. I like how it feels like a grown-up Zelda with a heavy emphasis on combat. I think a sequel is in order.
I'm going to start a new game on Apocalyptic setting. I did have my reservations about the game as a whole, but i found myself enjoying the experience and the story. I'm hoping for a sequel and from the ending I don't see why there can't be one.
the next three giant titles i am looking forward to are:
The Last Guardian
Castlevania Lords of Shadow
FF versus 13
I am yet to complete or play:
FF13, GOW3, Heavy Rain, AC2, Star Ocean 4, WKC, Dante's Inferno, Resonance of Fate, Nier. so the drought is welcomed 😀

Déjà vu.
judging by wat is being said by alpha protocol i really hope this time is being used by developers.
Am I the only one feeling that obsidian does not deserve the projects they have been given? they never have. Right back to an Alien RPG. That would've been a masterpiece, yet it ended up in their hands never to be finished, I am very angry towards them.
Well I still have Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy to catch up on. As well as RDR although that is currently stuck in my YLOD old 80GB sitting next to me!
