Oh look, it's raining. …better not have this amount of precipitation when it gets below freezing; last winter was brutal enough.
Splinter Cell: Conviction will come to the PS3
This isn't based on anything besides personal theory so don't go repeating this as if it's fact. However, I do believe it's going to happen, especially after Ubisoft said there's always a chance that the new Splinter Cell might eventually come to Sony's console. As I said in the article, I still believe Ubisoft doesn't necessarily want this game to be exclusive anymore; they made this deal with Microsoft quite a long time ago, and well before the PS3 was really a factor in terms of software sales potential. As it stands now, Microsoft would've had to have handed over a ton of cash to make up for the 25 million potential customers Ubisoft is passing on. No publisher is keen on this idea and I'm almost certain we'll see a PS3 release at some point; you can think of it as another Bioshock situation and I consider it nigh-on inevitable. And while I know a lot of you aren't fans, I've always loved Splinter Cell so I've thought about this a lot.
Of course, I'll just get it on the 360 when it comes out, just because I'd rather not wait on a chance. The only other option is that Ubisoft simply wanted to focus on the 360 because it's a better system for their game, but…well, forgive me for thinking it's Option A and that Microsoft paid them off.
This generation can last for a loooong time
I know the PS3 came out only six years after the PS2 launched and while that may happen again (the 10-year lifespan of the PS3 doesn't mean we won't see another PlayStation in that span of time), I'd rather it didn't. And I'm also glad that developers are on the side of most gamers; Infinity Ward, for example, says we can get a lot more mileage out of the current generation of consoles. Well, after seeing what Naughty Dog achieved with Uncharted 2 and marking the growth and advancement thus far, it's difficult to believe that we'll never see anything better. No, I think most any game designer will say there's still plenty to learn – especially in regards to the PS3 – and although there's a definite press towards digital media, that format shift is still a long ways off. Besides, let's not forget that we've already gone through multiple hardware changes unlike during the last generation; the PS3 Slim could almost be considered to be another system launch. So yeah, I'd say we're good for at least a few more years.
Personal gaming update
So I'm working my way through Brutal Legend right now. It's a great game and definitely indicative of Tim Schafer's creative genius, but it's really not one of my favorites…I've just never liked a real-time strategy mechanic, even if it doesn't dominate the entire game. I simply don't find the stage battles in this game to be very fun and now that I think about it, I'd also rather have had this game be a straight-up action/platformer rather than an open-world sandbox-style game. I just find it a little repetitive and not as engrossing as past Schafer efforts like Psychonauts . Still, I'll probably finish it. Beyond that, I played the Clank demo for A Crack in Time , which was fun, and I'm also playing the new downloadable game, Trine . That one is pretty damn awesome; expect to see a review for it early this week.
I actually can't wait to go back through Uncharted 2 again. I've been aching for a second play-through after finishing it and thankfully, it seems I'll have the time to do it. The only game I really want to play in November is Dragon Age: Origins – just to see what it's like – but besides that, I can wait on the others. Stuff like Modern Warfare 2 is on my Christmas list. 😉
well depending on what the contract with M$ is.
if they can make a ps3 version, is it really worth it?
i mean, ports dont normally sell well, everyone who would of wanted the game would have it by then.
if there doing a day in day release ok, but if its going to be another bioshock no thanks.
Am I the only one looking forward to AC2? The trophy list reveal got me even more stoked for it. I'll probably end up with that platinum way before I can beat Uncharted 2 on Crushing.
No, I guess I'm one of the very few who loved the first one and I've been looking forward to the sequel ever since. Can't wait.
I hope they work on the voice acting… whoo that was a stinker.
Good to hear I'm not alone. lol. Yes, the voice acting could use some work, but I've seen much worse. I think I heard they were working on the missions not being so repetitive, also. Anyway, with the ending of the first, I have to see where it goes.
I can't wait for AC2 I have my white edition pre-ordered and will be playing it day 1. I really enjoyed the first, it was a little repetitive but I loved the story and also have to see where its going.
I'm right there with you , loved the first one .
Liked the first one, but i thought it was too repetative so i will be getting ac2 but it's not my top priority.
Ben, I noticed Demon's Souls is not in your list of recent plays. Is that accurate, or have you played it, and what are your thoughts?
it wasn't his cup of tea
Played it plenty and reviewed it. It's great; maybe the best RPG in years.
I admit that freely, but yeah, it's really not my thing.
Oh man that's right! AC2 is coming soon!!! Dammit I can't keep up with these releases T^T ever since I lost my Tekken6 pre-order reciept its all I've thought about and now I've got more pre-orders to go make T^T…
Clank kicked ass.
And I thought the walking platforms in his mind's matrix was brilliant.
Tell me about it. That demo really surprised me.
Good Luck on U2 trophies and maybe this Christmas I'll join the rest of you on PSN, but the summer storms have torn my roof all to hell so that comes first 🙁
That sucks. We have been fortunate this year on the storm front, though spring was eventful.
I hope you can get your roof and all the associated hassle cleared up and fixed soon. Stay dry!
With me I'm playing a whole lot of FIFA 10 Online plus I'm going through U2 the second time.
I think SC Conviction is going to take a whole lot from U2's book, even Max Payne 3 is sure looking like an Uncharted. They're all going the Uncharted way. Naughty Dog might have done something that's going to be copied by most developers for many years to come.

that thing bout conviction makes sense, im just not too interested. aside from that, i suppose im still stickin with uncharted and fallout for a while.
i must say that uncharted 2 multiplayer is a lot of fun. not a lot of games keep me going online, im not much for the deathmatches. i have met more people online in uncharted than most other games. im going through it on hard in between leveling up on multiplayer.
i also just borrowed my cousins copy of ICO and will be playing through that soon. i also got farcry 2 from gamefly and im tryin to find time to play that for a while. i want to pick up the first R&C:F and play it again its been 2 years since i played that. i want the new R&C. still want brutal legends. AC2 looks good and i did enjoy the first one a lot. it was repetitive but the game play was awesome.

i remember when conviction was announced it was only for 360, then sometime later it i remember hearing it would come to the PS3, then it was back to being 360 only, and now its a maybe on a PS3 version? Just come out with the damn game already, gosh.
Don't forget about the Best Buy Buy 2, Get 3rd Free Deal. I would wait for Tuesday to take advantage of the deal because Crack in Time and Tekken 6 come then.
A new console would be a huge flop in my my opinion. There'd be no reason to buy it – they haven't invented any new technology that makes the old tech. seem obsolete in comparison. Besides, the PS3 is just now selling well. This is the worst time imaginable to replace it.
I'm currently playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 – and lovin' it! So much to learn, really deep gameplay mechanics. I just made it past the Statue of Liberty boss fight, which I've heard is one of the tougher ones. So I'm looking forward to smooth sailing from now on 🙂
Man soo man good games coming I just went to the japanese ps store found the bayonetta demo and wow this games is incredible can't believe sega made this game I thought it was capcom the gameplay is so smooth n controls r soo fluid like devil may cry….man if dmc5 doesn't come out till then then this will be keeping me occupied…anyways I need uncharted 2 n tekken 6 asap…..demon souls might get cause I need a solid action rpg on my ps3 and its exclusive so its a win………n by the way for those who have a japanese account final fantasy 8 is in the store now for purchase and I'm trying to find Z.O.E 2nd runner a game I missed on the ps2 but no luck might search it in gamestops archives around my area in nyc
I played the Trine demo on PC when it came out and have been waiting for it to hit the PSN. I just have to know before I jump in, how is the wizards creating mechanism gonna work? Do you have to draw an outline with the joystick, or say hold the square button to make a box? Longer you hold, bigger the box sort of thing..
Looking forward to the review!
Yeah, you just hold down the Square button to cast and then draw the box with the right analog stick. You also use the right stick for moving the little hand around to pick up and move items. It doesn't sound like it would work too great with a controller, but it's actually excellent.

@ world feel better, I'm in the same boat as you, Not sure what we all have but crossing my fingers it's not H1N1 🙂 So i've been in bed all weekend with my baby girl.
@ ben completely agree Brutal legend is a great game, I do hate that I can't jump but oh well. Unchartered 2 reading everyones comments playing the online demo it's a must put on my christmas list.
It looks like Qubex's habit of (intentionally?) mis-spelling Uncharted is contagious. : o
Okay i know I'm a bit late to party and it might be a bit off topic… But on the resolution issue and that:I read this morning that some scientists have discovered some King Prawn of sorts that has the most advanced sight (i.e lens in their eyes) of any creature in the world. Something like 8 layers in 8 separate directions allowing it to see all colors and even from Ultraviolet to Infrared… Long story short they are using this to create a new CD and DVD lens that will allow it to process much bigger level of colors and what not… Anyway interesting stuff… use it don't use it…
Hahah..imagine that… On the future players it will say… "enhanced by the Prawn Eye lens…." LMFAO
Oh and to World: hope you get better soon. On the upside both my wife and I had Swine Flu… Blood tested the works… But we made it and we live in South Africa… So i won't stress too much unless you're pregnant, have aids or have pneumonia… Cause that alongside Swine Flu is actually what kills you.
P.S Tamiflu is a b**** make you feel worse before it makes you any better…
