Ben’s Week In Review: September 30

It's one of those weeks where not much happened, but you still have to make things sound interesting. And I can always do that! 🙂

The first of many Warhawk tournaments

Well, I don't know if it's the first one, but it's the first one I've heard about. PSN At Home is hosting a Warhawk tournament , and while the prizes aren't all that spectacular, it should still be worth the time. I was going to enter, but then I realized I was nowhere near good enough (a mere 11 hours with the game isn't anywhere near enough, obviously), and on top of which, my controller was acting up on me tonight. It would go dead for about five seconds every once in a while, and five seconds of no control in this game is deadly . I have two launch Sixaxis controllers, and I know Sony has been quietly phasing out those, in order to replace them with new ones that don't have these dead spots. It annoyed the ever-loving crap out of me; I died two or three times when I never should've.

On a side note, Warhawk really is wicked fun, but I haven't the slightest idea what nets you team points. I just don't get it. I will frequently lead the round in kills, but never get anywhere near the top in points. In one round, I had 13 kills (only 6 deaths) and only ended up with 16 points. The winner had 48 points and 8 kills…ooooookay, so kills clearly has very little to do with points. Talk about frustrating.

G4TV is toying with us

First, we learn about a so-called big announcement that should've been unveiled last Thursday on "Attack of the Show." Then, nothing happens and they blame it on legal reasons . …yeah, I'm starting to think this announcement isn't so "huge" after all. If they couldn't reveal the big news due to "legal reasons," doesn't that imply it has something to do with G4TV? If that's the case, who the hell cares? Whatever this is, it had better be something that affects the gaming industry – and all gamers – on the whole; it had best not be something silly about G4. There was a rumor going around the announcement would have something to do with the channel broadcasting in HD, which I'm relatively certain nobody cares about. Thankfully, it's not that, as they clarified on their site yesterday.

I'm just wondering when they'll make this announcement, and I have this sneaking suspicion it's not anywhere near as "huge" as they think it is.

A next-gen Jet Moto? Sweet!

I'm probably alone on this, but I would love to see Sony issue a remake – or next-gen sequel – of Jet Moto . According to the latest rumor , it seems very possible, and I honestly hope it happens…provided they let the right team handle it. You have to remember, Singletrac – the same guys who did the first two Twisted Metal s – developed the original Jet Moto , but after that, 989 Studios took over. And that's when both TM and JM went completely down the tubes; it took Dave Jaffe and Insomniac's return to bring glory back to the TM franchise with Twisted Metal: Black on the PS2 (after the terrible third and fourth installments on the PS1). Now, Jaffe has formed his own studio, and while it doesn't seem likely, I'd really like them to do a next-gen Jet Moto .

The original was one of the very first games I ever played on the PS1, and I really played the hell out of it. I became a master grappler, and I went through and won that tournament dozens upon dozens of times. I used the Technician, who suited me perfectly. 🙂 Anyway, it's one of those games that would make for a great remake in this generation, and Sony should definitely take advanage. Just do it! I'll buy it!
