Happy Labor Day! Sorry if I'm not posting these updates every single weekend; sometimes I just don't have much to say. 🙂
Might have to get that Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection…
I guess it isn't confirmed for the U.S. yet, but Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection is apparently going to launch in Europe , and the three games in question will run at 1080p/30fps on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As most people know, I'm a huge fan of the franchise and while I believe last year's Assassin's Creed Syndicate absolutely is the best in series history (the perfect culmination to a winning formula, despite a few lingering flaws), the Ezio games were still huge highlights. Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood were both wonderful and while Revelations was a small step backward, an updated trilogy would be well worth owning. As a collector, I always want to have the best versions of my favorite games in my library, even if I have no intention of playing them again. And I probably won't ever go back to play any of those old AC titles but still, I think I want this compilation.
…except I might not bother with the Definitive Edition of MGSV
I hear Konami will release Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience on October 13 and of course, I'm not surprised. I just don't think I need it.
I know I just said I always want the best versions of my favorite games but honestly, MGSV doesn't necessarily qualify as a "favorite game" of mine. I stand by my review because MGSV is clearly a fantastic game but upon reflection, it falls shy of other memorable entries in the series. At least, for me. I mean, MGS3 and MGS4 will always remain firmly lodged in my heart and brain and there are damn good reasons for that. While MGSV was incredible, it just didn't have the same lasting emotional impact, you know? I attribute this to the storyline and characters taking a back seat to the gameplay, as they always do in more open interactive experiences.
I understand it's an accepted thing in the industry now to believe every single game on earth has to be non-linear, open-ended, sandbox, blah blah blah. Games like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End still exist to disprove such idiocy, but they're getting to be exceedingly rare. And I'm not saying Kojima and Konami made a mistake with MGSV. They adapted, I get it. But some franchises simply are better with more direction, and as more of a plot-driven experience, and MGS will always be one such IP.
And yet another GotY Edition…I just don't know…
My favorite game of 2015 and my second-favorite game of the generation so far behind Uncharted 4 is unsurprisingly getting a Game of the Year Edition . It's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and this one, I'm just not sure about. I never did get around to playing the Blood and Wine expansion, and perhaps the GotY Edition would allow me to rejuvenate my love of that game, and I could dive in fresh. Maybe I'd go through on a New Game Plus (a feature I know they added earlier) and then do Blood and Wine, or something like that. Aside from The Last Guardian in October and Dishonored 2 in November, there's really nothing else this fall I feel I need.
And my interest in the shooters – Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – barely registers. If Battlefield 1 has a great campaign, though, I might consider it if I'm bored.
Personal gaming update
Been busy with other things lately; haven't even picked up Deus Ex: Mankind Divided yet, but I'll grab it this week. I actually went back to play Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete ; acts as a nice relaxant. 😉 Still waiting to hear what Sony's plans are for the PS4 Neo and I assume that'll be a big part of the company's TGS press conference, right…?
I completely agree with you on your thoughts about MGS5 and MGS3 and MGS4 leaving you with the emotional impact. As a big fan of the franchise I won't be getting the definitive edition for the same reasons you highlighted.
The only game that I looking forward to this year is The Last Guardian. I haven't played Uncharted 4 – why? I was too busy playing Dark Souls practically the whole summer. I know Naughty Dog/Sony will release a Game of The Year Edition so I'll probably just wait for that to come out sometime next year.
PGU: I finished playing Dark Souls 3 not too long ago. Now I am playing Child of Light and it's quite the breath of fresh air after the hundreds of deaths and fights that I experienced in Dark Souls. What's next? Probably The Last Guardian but Mafia 3 has caught my eye recently. Time will tell.
Hope everyone has had a good summer thus far.
PGU:
I'm totally hooked on the mobile game Kingdom Hearts Unchained X. It's a testament to what should be standard quality for a mobile game.
The only one I play everyday and does not leave me dissatisfied.
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 comes out in December, you gonna get that? Honestly just picked up 1.5 and 2.5 for my PS3, and started on that. Havent play Kingdom Hearts since the 1st, and never beat it so figured I go back and trying to play through before 3 comes out next year.
Im enjoying the play through so far, even coming up on a few things that bring back the memories. Its not the prettiest game in the world but it looks decent and it is fun to play.
Heck yeah brother – Plat'ing them again is on my list! Major KH geek, that's why I can even stand the sight of this mobile game. Love it.
I really liked Ezio but I don't think I could go back and play old AC games. Staying current with every new installment is hard enough as it is for me.
I'm also attracted to AC's technology as much as I am it's game play. That is, I want my AC experiences to always have that push the hardware bounderies feel to them. I want my time with the series to feel both awe inspired and refreshed with new characters and areas. So basically, there's no looking back for me on this series.
I started Lunar SSS back in the day and never finished it, regrettably. It was great. Maybe someday I'll go back to it.
PGU: been still doing Xenoblade X. Huge game it is.
I've also been taking time out to slow down and enjoy classic games. I've been doing old Neo Geo stuff, like Art of Fighting 2.
There's something about living again in the nostalgia that new games just can't do for me.
I always wondered why when I'd go to grandmas house as a boy and she'd watch old black and white tv shows. I think I understand it now. I think there comes a point where you're less interested in all the new and different and youd just rather stay cozy with what you know and like. Because before you know it, you'll be old and dead from age and you won't get to play any new games anyway. Might as well enjoy your bests while you can.

It'll be weird to see Metal Gear Solid as a multiplayer Zombie game.
No Man's Sky is too slow. It's impossible to get anywhere in Kholat. Been replaying Dante's Inferno. Still playing Trails of Cold Steel even though the sequel hits my doorstep tomorrow.
Still Fallout 4 all the way ,dlc Nuka World is great there's a lot to explore and after this it's mods[would be a nice extra to expand the game with some extra areas]… or not?….there are some problems and Sony is still very quiet about mods.

Maybe the Neo will bring PS3 backwards compatibility.
Dont think they will do PS3 backwards compatibility. PS Now service covers that. They like that subscription money.
But I don't like to rent old streamed games.
PS Now is a joke. Sony may be losing money on it trying to maintain it

Bad news from Sony,Bethesda says:
"After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim: Special Edition," Bethesda wrote on its website today.
"Like you, we are disappointed by Sony's decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available."
Man,after no bc also no mods on the ps4….
for me not THAT important but both still nice extra's.
I will always have a playstation because they have the best exclusive's,but if the Scorpio also would have 60 fps, maybe just maybe….

The demo from Resident evil 7 is now free to download from psn,you don't need playstation plus anymore!
Also :the demo is updated with some new areas/rooms.
Resident Evil 7 looks like a Chainsaw Massacre kind of game, great! Will it have the greatness of the best Resident Evil[1/3]?
Now with this kind of gameplay, the remake of Resident Evil 2 should be great also,i want it…maybe end of 2017?
