Post-E3 and I'm started to see things in a slightly different light. More on that below but first:
You have to applaud Bethesda's decision to reboot Doom 4
I was disappointed when I learned that Doom 4 had been scrapped, and I was hesitant about the new reboot because I had the sneaking suspicion it would take a very long time. New Doom entries don't exactly come out every year.
But when I heard the reasons behind the reboot , I was not only cheered, I was also respectful of the decision. Basically, what they're saying is that Doom 4 was shaping up to be too much like Call of Duty or Battlefield ; simply too much like all the other shooters in existence today. On top of which, they acknowledged this shift as a negative thing, as moving away from the core of the franchise. So, they started over to retain that all-important core and make it a Doom game that fans will undoubtedly enjoy and appreciate. I just wonder why more developers can't take this approach. Isn't it only logical?
You just have to stand up and applaud when a designer says, "hmm, maybe my shooter shouldn't play exactly like Call of Duty , especially when I've got a franchise people have loved for very different reasons ." That's why I'm excited for Doom and I hope other teams take a page from the developers' playbook.
My hopes are high but I still have lots of questions about Horizon: Zero Dawn
The gameplay Guerrilla showed off during Sony's E3 conference was fantastic and I love the vibe. That being said, I still think we need to see and hear a lot more before we get an accurate picture of what this game will be like.
First, they say it'll be "'comparable' to other open-world games" in terms of size. But you know, that doesn't tell me much. Because just about every new game these days is open-world, there's a lot more variety in that particular structure than ever; there's a big difference between The Witcher 3 's open world and the one in Batman: Arkham Knight , for example. It all depends on how that world is presented, how we travel through it, how the story is woven in, etc. And how we play these games can be drastically different; you don't play inFamous: Second Son and Watch Dogs the same way at all, right? So, what to expect in Horizon ?
I just hope the mechanics end up matching the incredible technicals. I'll be very disappointed if the game looks incredible but falls shy on the gameplay side.
Personal gaming update
I'm sort of in open-world overload right now (a position in which I'm afraid I'll find myself permanently in the future), but it's hard to complain when the two games are The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the recently released – and wonderful – Batman: Arkham Knight . I knew the latter would top the former in terms of technical solidarity and reliability, and while I still prefer CD Projekt Red's RPG (it's just more my style), Rocksteady are absolute rock-star developers. There's every chance that Arkham Knight will figure into the end-of-year awards for a lot of leading sources and publications, and that will be well-deserved. I just wish these developers would try something else…
Thankfully, there's really nothing coming out between now and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on September 1. At least, nothing I desperately want to play. However, that being said, I will be very interested to check out Everybody's Gone to the Rapture in August. Looks very promising and cerebral.
One last thing: I'm starting to think we'll never see that Final Fantasy VII Remake . For a lot of reasons, I have a feeling that announcement was more about PR than anything else; Square Enix has proven that they're simply one giant mess when it comes to internal development. The Final Fantasy Versus XIII/Final Fantasy XV saga should be proof enough. 'sigh'
I agree that Doom looked real great for E3. I'm dang glad they didn't go with the 'Call of Doom' angle they had initially planned because what they showed a few weeks ago looked awesome.
Horizon also looked great, even from the bit of the game play action we saw. While it's theme seems a bit sell-out'ish. That being an amalgamation of today's hottest box office hits: Transformers meets Jurassic Park. Complete with a father-daughter TLoU'ish scene. It seemed to be made with a target audience in mind with hopes to bring in a wide gamut of players. I wonder if it'll be teen rated. Cuz' violently killing robots is okay.
It's all about open world these days. I read that MGS5 is exactly Metal Gear meets open world. So brace yourselves. I've accepted it.
PGU: I impulse purchased a Playstation TV today for $40. I snagged the last one from a GameStop shop I went to.
I've put it through a few test sessions. PS4 Remote Play with an Ethernet is definitely better than the Vita's wi-fi implementation. Though the image on my 20inch monitor still looks significantly degraded compared to native output of a game on PS4. It's not all bad. While image detail is lost, seeing that games are being downscaled from 1080p to something quite a bit less, jaggies are very hard to spot. The whole game image has a cohesive, yet muddied, look to it. It almost feels like playing a game outputting from a DVD disc or something. Almost like adding a KZ2 smoothed over look to everything. In a bizzare kind of way, it's sorta nice.
I could go on but I'll hold off because there's a million things I could go on about. One of which is the real spotty Vita game support. LBP3, Rayman Legends, or WipEout aren't supported.
If anyone is sitting on the fence about a PSTV and has questions lemme know.

i have less fun killing robots than people.
Horizon actually reminded me of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. If it would be as good as that game I'd be in heaven lol.
Well the Square bastards said they'd make it, while that's no guarantee it will happen with them but the pressure is gonna be high. They aren't in a financial position NOT to make the game.
With the Fallout 4 news I got the New Vegas DLC for something new in that world to play.

I think I remember frosty posting a hypothesis about the length of time FFVII was going to come out if at all.
I think you might owe frosty an apology, you can't rip into people for being "negative" when they have given an opinion and a theory, and then to turn around and say it almost like you were the first to think this up… It's not right.
I'm sure frosty is fine with this, but it's left me a little raw I'm afraid, it's just a little consistency that's needed.
forum battles?
No forum battles mate. Just asking for Ben not to be so quick to jump on a long time contributor to the site, both here and the forums.
Heck I threw him a PSN friend request even after last week. Don't think he accepted but I won't be accused of not trying to make peace.
"Post-E3 and I'm started to see things in a slightly different light."
"One last thing: I'm starting to think we'll never see that Final Fantasy VII Remake. For a lot of reasons, I have a feeling that announcement was more about PR than anything else"
I'm not going to ask you for an apology as Dillon has suggested but you tried getting real personal last week when I mentioned there was a lot of PR smoke and mirrors going on at Sony's conference. I guess it just took a week for the initial excitement of your favorite console makers E3 show to wind down and for you to see things with different eyes.
It might be worth reading my comments instead of announcing that you don't read my comments because I know nothing but that you have hearsay from your brother. It's almost like when you claimed to know all about film making because you have a 2nd cousin's best friend's aunt who did a community college film course. I could call you out about not knowing anything but then again, I'm not you.
"I could call you out about not knowing anything but then again, I'm not you."
Just wanted to make sure you realize that's exactly what you're doing. 😉 Actually, everything you said was doing exactly what you're saying you wouldn't do since you're so much better than all that. Then again, much of the readership here wouldn't clue into that, so maybe it's a good strategy.
Personally, I'd rather you just come out and say it instead of this passive aggressive crap.
My 2 cents.
Underdog: Passive aggressive is all these idiots know.
frostface: Don't care what you wrote or what you think. Won't be reading any of it again, or any of the toxicity that spread from the forums into here. Just leave me alone.
Ben what are you a 5yr old? First you're telling Bio to leave you alone, now you're at me? And why, because you have no argument and you have to resort to calling long time members of the site idiots. Well I'll be the bigger man and not call you an idiot. I'll leave that to the community of members who you constantly insult on a regular basis.
Ha Ha Ha! LOL! It never fails! Underdog to the rescue!
Sheeple, don't be dumb. If you truly followed me on here like a mommy follows a diaper blogger as you claim you do, you'd know me and Frosty are good.
Also, who am I rescuing? Can you quote the part where I defended someone? All I did was tell Frosty to just come out and say it instead of talking about what he wants to say. You're trying, WAY too hard. I think I could argue you're the sheeple, constantly jumping on the hate train without ever providing an ounce of independent thought.

We're good 🙂
I agree with Underdog – if you've got a beef just come out and say it. For instance, I don't tell Underdog how much I'd like to say he's a lunatic for being a Blue Jays fan but won't because I'm too nice, I just point at him and make cuckoo noises until he throws things at me.
But I'm a Yankees fan so I'm used to having objects and obscenities hurled at me.
Last edited by Bio on 6/28/2015 4:53:24 PM
hehe, those Yanks are on the higher side of their Pythag, Bio. It's only a matter of time!
Keep telling yourself that, UD. One day it'll come true 😛
I'm sure the Yankees are heading for a long, hardcore slump, tbh, and I know I'll be eating crow when they do but until then WHEEE!
I am actually a nice guy trying to be diplomatic in my responses. But right now I'm thinking Ben's an ignorant pr*ck!
"The hate train" lol that's a good one! Underdog you take yourself way to serious! There's no need to follow you around (not entirely sure how one would o that on an Internet forum) because you write the same pseudo intellectual gibberish every time you post. OMG you're like so intelligent. Lol! I'm the one trying to hard? Do you even read the $&?! that you post. But then again most of the readership wouldn't clue into that. Ben sure responded to your post like you were defending someone, but what do I know I'm just a dumb sheeple with no independent thought. Get over yourself!
Definitely with Underdog. The internets/world needs less passive aggressiion and we can do our part to help, one comment at a time for mankind.
When people are in the wrong just say it haha.
Oh looky mommy grown man fighting about video games. And if ben is 5 years old then he shouldnt be running this hopefully Psextreme well close up shop soon enough the way ben acts he doesnt deserve to run this site. Oh if i get banned for this well its time for me to reveale who i am. My real ID was infamousgodV2_0 and i was permanently banned from the forums and here so u know what i hope this site dies soon. And i agree with frost

Blah blah blah, I don't care.
PSXExtreme politics…
"OMG you're like so intelligent."
Thanks!
I do find a bit of enjoyment from the fact that the most hate I've ever had from this site is from sticking up for someone like half a year ago, and not for the countless times I poke fun at people.

I'm bored. I'm gonna have some fun just for me. Feel free to ignore, everyone. This is just for my own enjoyment.
"The hate train lol that's a good one!"
Thanks!
"Underdog you take yourself way to serious!"
I think you meant, "seriously".
"There's no need to follow you around (not entirely sure how one would o that on an Internet forum)"
I agree. I don't particularly want to be followed anyways.
"Because you write the same pseudo intellectual gibberish every time you post."
The concept of something being "pseudo-intellectual" in an interesting one, actually. I would argue it's something of a paradox. "Intelligence" isn't something you can exist without to begin with, and even what makes for the most accurate measurement tool is constantly up for debate. (IQ, understood as 'learning capacity' vs. 'true intelligence') That said, to even pull off having the appearance of intelligence without having any would require a degree of intelligence. (Hence the paradox theory) I'd be happy to discuss this more, if you like. PSN is Underdog15.
"OMG you're like so intelligent."
Thanks.
"Lol! I'm the one trying to hard?"
Actually, I have a hard time believing you've ever tried at anything, tbh. So, I take that back.
"Do you even read the $&?! that you post."
You mean like… for editing? I don't really read my own work for learning purposes. I feel I already have a handle on what might be written.
"But then again most of the readership wouldn't clue into that."
Uh… into the question you just asked? Or the sarcastic gesture? That burn didn't really flow, too well. If I were you, I'd have put that phrase right after the bit about pseudo-intelligence.
"Ben sure responded to your post like you were defending someone"
So the actions of another determines the intent of the origin?
"But what do I know I'm just a dumb sheeple with no independent thought. Get over yourself!"
Is this like a Gollum/Smeagol thing? Also… run-on sentence.
That was fun. I had fun! 🙂
Last edited by Underdog15 on 6/29/2015 12:54:24 AM
Well I'm sure glad that someone had fun. For me, that was like listening to Rainman do his "Who's on first" rendition. We clearly have different opinions on what fun is.
Let me help you out!
pseudo intellectual: noun
1) a person exhibiting intellectual pretensions that have no basis in sound scholarship.
2) a person who pretends an interest in intellectual matters for reasons of status.
adjective
of, relating to, or characterized by fraudulent intellectuality; unscholarly
Hmmmmmmmm……. Who does this sound like?
OMG! Your like so intelligent!
Oh no, the fact that you are responding is all I need for fun. But now you're responding in circles, so I'm starting to get bored.
Also, I did an IQ test back when I was 23. (Part of a number of tests that led to discovering I have adult-ADHD, as I kept having a hard time committing to anything since nothing could hold my interest. It's also why I probably wasted time getting two remarkably different degrees – one a double major in phys-ed and theatre, the other in psychology… but that's another story for another day) But as for the IQ test, which is basically just a test of learning capacity, lets just say there's little to nothing you can say to make me doubt my intelligence.
As for you, can you please try to be topical in your comebacks so this stays fun instead of using fake words from dictionary dot com?
Last edited by Underdog15 on 6/29/2015 7:44:49 AM
We got a live one here!
Jesus Cristos, this is just too easy.
Underdog why are you trying so f-ing hard to prove just how smart you are. Let's see: 1st you deconstructed my Internet forum paragraph correcting supposed errors. 2nd you've informed everyone that you've taken various intelligence quizzes and passed with flying colors, back when you were 18 months old. 3rd Here come the degrees. One for this, and one for that, blah blah blah. And you have the audacity to say that I'm trying to hard. Your a funny guy, I'll give you that.
What's next? Are going to post a picture of said degrees? Oh wait…what about a letter of recommendation from the dean of your university? No, better yet a picture of a check stub from your last paycheck.
News flash tool shed. Pseudo intellectual is a word, and you are the very living/breathing definition of it. The more you post, the more you prove that you are. It's not your fault, you just can't help yourself.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot…………OMG! Your like so intelligent
It's about time! I was starting to worry you'd never come back!
I'm glad. You can't help but reply to me. I'm that irresistible. (And no, 'pseudointellectual' isn't a word. dictionary dot com is not a real dictionary.) Your first clue should be that your browser is trying to auto-correct it. "Pseudo" is a word, and "intellectual" is a word, and combined they are 2 words (it grates on my nerves a little to see you write out two words then call it one word), but that's a forced adjective relationship with a noun. Not a single, solitary word with it's very own definition.
I know you can't resist responding to me. I'm curious about how far off the beaten path I can take you. We're way out in left field now. All I have to do is act like I'm smarter than you, and you can't handle it.
I'm still waiting on that PSN friend request so we can chat over the headset! I love confrontation, man. Keep it coming!
Lastly, 133. You?
Last edited by Underdog15 on 6/29/2015 3:37:43 PM
Sheeple, if you're going to continue mocking other people for being stupid, you should at least proofread what you post. I know it can be hard, but fear not! As someone who has worked as a writer for the entirety of his adult working life, I'm here to help:
Underdog isn't "trying to hard", he's "trying too hard". "To" indicates that someone or something is moving towards an object, place or person. "Too" means 'also' or 'excessive'. You're trying to say that Underdog is trying excessively, so you want to stick with "too", here.
Sarcastically posting "your so intelligent" is as bad as calling someone "stoopid". "Your" is a possessive, used to indicate ownership of something. You were looking for "you're" which is a contraction of "you are".
Rain Man is two words. So is pseudo intellectual. Underdog is neither.
Proper punctuation and capitalization are your friends! They are extremely helpful in establishing context. There is a difference, for example, between "I had to help my uncle, Jack, off his horse" and "I had to help my uncle jack off his horse". The former makes you a good, kind nephew for helping your elders, while the latter makes you a pervert and, in most states, a criminal.
Lastly, always remember that you can never successfully claim the intellectual high ground on an internet forum if you write like a four year old with Asperger Syndrome. If you're having difficulty with the composition of your insults, it's best to fall back on the time-tested "Screw you, buddy!". Simple, unambiguous and expeditious, and you don't risk outing yourself as a moron.
Have yourself a lovely day!
"It's about time!" I don't live on this website like some people.
Like I stated earlier.:Your a funny guy, I'll give you that.
I'm really starting to question that so called psychology major that you supposedly have, since you've deduced that all you have to do is "ACT" smarter than me, and I can't handle it. I'm not the one who's so insecure that I'm listing my so called accomplishments in academia. No, I'm the one calling you out for the fraud that you clearly are. Truthfully if you were as smart as you claimed to be, you would realize that with every one of your ridiculous post you further prove my point, that you are a pseudo (here comes the hyphen) -intellectual.
You can pick and choose which one of my post that you want to answer, or which ones that you want to duck and dodge, but the only one that is in left field is you.
Now, I'm pretty sure that there's a friend of yours that needs rescuing somewhere on this website, so why don't you go do what you do best?
Sheeple, Out.
Thanks Bio, I'll remember that an Internet forum of a video game website requires me to proof read my comments that I post from my iPhone. Sure thing pal.
Last edited by AMERICANSHEEPLE on 6/29/2015 5:22:47 PM
Who said it was required? I'm trying to help you, man. You quite clearly, and desperately, want to make Underdog feel like a stupid fraud. I'm just pointing out that you can't really do that when you post like a Tajikistani spambot that has almost achieved sentience.
I mean, right now you're basically doing the internet forum equivalent of talking shit in a Call of Duty multiplayer match while also somehow managing to simultaneously light yourself on fire despite the fact that the games don't have flamethrowers. I feel bad for you, is what I'm saying. I don't want people to make fun of you, because I'm a nice guy.
There's no need to be sarcastic. I never am!
Also, I'm intentionally trolling you, and attempting to do so without directly insulting you. 😉
The hyphen is meant to adjoin 2 words or one word to a prefix. It still isn't a word, and dictionary dot com is still a fake dictionary.
And what's wrong with using the word, "Act"? Didn't I mention my degree in theatre arts? If not, I apologize. I'll be sure to include it in my list of accomplishments next time.
Bio, I'm so sad you're a yankees fan. You're almost perfect! (Yankees are my second favorite team, tbh)

I've seen a lot of E3s now. I've never looked to it for news about what's coming out in the next couple months. Even when it does, it's not usually anything AAA anyways. I just look to it and hope for any kind of big news.
From that perspective, I remain happy with the latest E3. We learned a crap load of new stuff. And that's a win in my book.
Besides, some of the people upset none of the big announcements aren't coming out this year I don't think realize some of the games announced are coming out less than a year after E3… so it's not like they can wait until next E3 to announce it…
