Good thing I'll have plenty of time for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . Not much on the radar over the next few months, with the exception of Batman: Arkham Knight in June.
I have no problem with "non-failure state" games
When the new PlayStation title Submerged was announced , I was immediately intrigued.
First off, I noticed the beauty of the visual presentation. It's not especially impressive in terms of technological capability but then again, it doesn't have to be. This is about a mystical environment that has a certain panache, and I love the artistic ambition. Secondly, I don't have an issue with so-called "non-failure state" games; i.e., you can't die. You might not be able to figure something out, but death isn't something you have to worry about. Now, some purists say it's not a video game. They claim that without any real challenge, without any sense of survival urgency, it's basically just a series of interactive moving pictures. But I guess that depends on your definition of "video game."
One can find satisfaction and contentment in all forms of entertainment; just because I'm not struggling to survive doesn't make it any less of a "video game." Where is the challenge? Well, what about the mystery of exploration and the puzzles? And even if none of that is especially challenging, so what? We're supposed to be enjoying ourselves and interactive enjoyment isn't contingent upon set factors. If I just want to relax and have fun, Submerged sounds perfect.
Black Ops III teaser is awfully reminiscent of Deus Ex
Did you see that Ember teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops III ? Retinal implants? Biohacking? It really had a futuristic vibe that is most reminiscent of Deus Ex , I think. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Last year's Advanced Warfare started us down this futuristic path in the CoD franchise and perhaps it's a logical step. Everyone really did get tired of the World War II theme; hence, Modern Warfare exploded onto the scene and blew everyone away. But here's the thing: With three separate development teams involved in the franchise, I think there's a great shot at freshness and innovation. Not all CoD entries have to be futuristic in some way, do they? I like what I'm seeing and hearing concerning Black Ops III and I also liked Advanced Warfare . But with three teams and three different projects, we could feasibly envision a different setting, right? Infinity Ward could move past Modern Warfare , I would think.
And besides, I don't think there's enough of a gap between AW and MW; for this generation, I'd encourage Infinity Ward to find a new CoD identity. In the meantime, the Deus Ex -like BLoPS3 should keep everyone's attention.
Personal gaming update
While it's still a good game, I wasn't as impressed with Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones a s I was with the original. And I can't stand being timed in any game that involves puzzle-solving. As for MKX, I'm done with that (not a huge fan of fighters, anyway) and I'm occupying myself with a few smaller games. One is the awesome Axiom Verge and the other is Bastion , which is excellent. I never played it back when it came out in 2011 and now that it's on the PSN – and considering its very high Metacritic average – I just had to try it. I love it; it's one of those games that just keeps you playing. Expect a review soon.
The Witcher 3 is all that matters after this week, I suppose. I expect to see a review copy at some point. I'm not a Batman fan but I have to assume Arkham Knight will be fantastic, especially because Rocksteady is back in the driver's seat. Which game tops your priority list right now?
I think when a computer program has the intent of being interactive and entertainment it can be considered a video game. I feel the whole definition and categorization of video games and genres in general can be all over the place as it is.
By convention though, in normal real life, I do think of games with winning and losing.
Black Ops III has me interested in learning more.
Bastion was special and unique. This community of story-driven based buffs should really get a kick out of it. I did.
I want Batman most. Though all of this Witcher III hype has brought me over from being not interested to sitting on the fence.
There's aspects about it that appeal to me but at the same time there's stuff about it that doesn't. I have tons to play as it is so I just don't know yet.
PGU: After reading that Witcher III had some similarities to Red Dead Redemption I remembered it was a game I bought for cheap and started and liked and forgot to come back to, with the little I played of it. So I have come back to it. And it's cool. I really dig the Western vibe. It's really refreshing. Though I have to say the controls haven't aged well. I'm not sure what everyone was saying about them back when it was new but they could use a tune-up today. Marston feels stiff and not very natural to control. Aiming though can be the big frustration. I had to learn to have to rely on the game's auto aim, where I sorta spastically hit the aim button to 'lock on' to an enemy, particularly while horse mounted. I suppose the game controls 'good' all around but definitely not great by my liking. Other than that the environments are sprawling and impressive, even now.

Red Dead was a very fun game. I really enjoyed it and I have a soft spot for western settings. I remember getting used to the auto aim, but it was definitely wonky.
I don't know if you played The Witcher 2 but when it came out before patches it was incredibly hard even on normal. It was comparable to Ninja Gaiden or even a Souls game.
I think The Witcher 3 aims to make the combat challenging and tactical which I know you appreciate.
interesting. I did not know that and I like. Thank's Xenris.
hey, seeing that you're a local guru of Bloodborne, how should I be approaching leveling in the new game+ mode?
My Health, Endurance, Strength, and Skill are all fairly close to each other, in the low or mid thirties. Shaune was saying something about avoiding keeping them too equal in this mode of the game. I just slayed the Cleric Beast again in the mode and I'm sitting on a lot of Blood Orbs but I'm not sure how to spend them. What do you know about a path of progression?

I loved beating the last boss in Windows Media Player and the cross-plat multiplayer between iTunes.
Just get Witcher 2 and get hyped for Witcher 3 man. Simple science.
Red Dead Redemption was one of the first open world games that hooked me and I played through to completion. Some of the moments in the game like Mexico and the song that played were truly stunning. Combat was pretty meh with the lock on, and some of the voice actors were incredibly annoying, but overall it was a hell of an experience when it was released.
What are your exact stats right now and what weapon are you using. Also do you plan on stopping leveling for pvp purposes?
That being said I would say leave endurance between 30-35, and vit between 35-40. If you are using ludwigs get str and skl to 40 or 50 each.
I have my character with str and skl at 50 each and my ludwigs has 700 or more with the gems I have on it and that is without farming high level chalice gems. I imagine if you left them both at 40 you would still be hitting close to that number. My Vit and End are at 30 each I think, and I have had no problems with these numbers although more vit is always nice, I try to dodge everything.
Lastly it depends on if you plan on continuing to level or if you plan on staying level 100-120 for pvp and co op purposes.
If you just want to keep leveling then don't worry too much, just level your scaling stats for your weapon to 50 leave them there and then crank vitality and endurance until your eyes bleed.
A side note, it is insanely easy to level up in NG+ if you do a run through old yarnham you will be sitting on 100k souls roughly. Once you get to the Forbidden woods that number almost doubles. So don't worry about your spending.
Thanks Xenris.
I use the Holy Blade. Because I'm so comfortable with it I sorta want to experiment with other weapons now, for the sake of knowing more about the game.
I feel the game makes it easy to naturally gravitate towards those two big weapons, the axe and the holy blade, but I'd like to know how the other weapons are balanced into the mix. I did get a taste for the SawSpear and liked that well. But when it comes to bosses I just like having a real slugger so I gravitated away from it.
I suppose that should determine how I upgrade, and if I do stick with the holy blade I suppose I'll just keep pumping them to how you suggested.
I can't help but wonder how someone would go about creating a more exotic character. something that uses arcane and blood tinge more or something.
btw I dont plan on doing PvP

The good thing about the game is every weapon is viable for the most part.
The Holy blade does a ton of damage when you have a quality build, and you can add elemental damage for certain bosses to exploit their weakness to hit even harder.
I made another character and did a blood tinge character and I only wield the Chikage. It drains your health in 2h mode but hits like a truck. I made him mostly for pvp and have had some awesome duels.
I would suggest rolling another character and picking a weapon you want to try and build around it. If you go arcane you could use tontritus, or you could put points into dex and roll with the really fast mercy blades.
I plan on making a character that only uses the whip castlevania style. I think this will be my greatest challenge yet as the weapon does poor damage in my experience.
Beat DMC Definitive. Awesome offerings all over the place. Love that final funny scene.
I think Ninja Theory should take Castlevania next. They could restore the synthesizers and castle environs along with a Belmont that sports major whip skillz. Make the right stick your whip, there it is!
Oh yeah, been playing Lords of Shadow 2 so that's the reason for the rant.
I'm fuc*ing thrilled that Omega Quintet comes out this week, woohoo!
After a week hiatus from Bloodborne I'm back at it, just beat Rom the Vacuous Spider and Martyr Logarius. I finally played around with the online options and helped out a couple people on the Witches, Father Gascoigne, and the Cleric. The latter two were on new game plus mode, definitely seems tough. In Cainhurst I decided to try out calling for help on my second attempt at Logarius, I really regretted it as the boss fight became incredibly easy and there was no sense of reward when we beat him.
Pretty much gave up on Shadow of Mordor, the level/world design is atrocious, there is no sense of believability or creativity. The combat is overly simple and lack any sort of challenge. It's too bad cause the story seems decent but I just don't have time to run around doing all of it's half assed missions. It reminds me of the Star Wars the Force Unleashed I & II. I really think the only reason this game scored as well as it did was because there wasn't anything else out at the time.
A friend and I having be going back and playing games from last generation that we never played. A couple weeks ago we did Mirrors Edge was as excellent first attempt at first person platforming/parkour.Having played Dying Lights first, it's interesting how Mirrors Edge's sense of inertia and gravity are so successfully implemented where is Dying Light you just feel like a floating head most of the time.
This week is Alone it the Dark Inferno, which so far has a lot of really cool concepts and mechanics that either aren't fully fleshed out or are damn near broken. So far AitD hasn't grabbed my attention fully, but I know that it has quite a cult following so maybe a couple hours of forced play will hook me.
Witcher III is my next purchase, though not until Bloodborne is finished. As a fan of the comics and animated series, it's difficult for me to get excited about the new Batman so long as they dress him up like Iron Man on steroids, that and the first two by Rocksteady just didn't grab me in the gameplay department.
I wanna help you man but can u break up that text a bit?
Batman: Arkham Knight will be definitely one of the 2 top contenders for 2015's game of the year, alongside Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain. it's less than 2 months now.. ^_^
i will say that firstly that most people are looking forward to the witcher 3 and the batman arkham knight.
and then the non-failure state games i have no problem cos they make them for people who want those games.
then BO3 and Deus Ex yeah i more inclined to go with Deus Ex as i haven't played one of those before where as im just not really excited for COD anymore.
and then just on the COD studios tryark and infinityward and stedgehammer the ones that need to reinventing themselves trying to come up with new names for the series over and over cos of the annualised basis that COD is that really the only thing that interestes me anymore
then PGU i did manage to get a bit further throught the chapter i was on in unchartered 2 awhile back haven't been an again for awhile the games i have been playing recently was a bit of lan over IP warhammer 40K dawn of war soulstorm with my mates who live in auckland and then a bit of odd stuff on my phone i have been bored with not really any other good options avalible for gaming
hope your having a good week guys this is a bit late
happy gaing
