I'm not sure I've seen this level of company preparedness for a new title before.
I've been in betas before but never an alpha. Now I have been in the alpha and beta for Destiny and can't figure why they released the alpha in the first place. The beta just juiced it up a little and they weren't exactly separated by a great deal of time or content.
And yet those trials did have an effect on me that normal betas and demos usually don't. I was able to see the high production values, the quality graphics, the easy controls and weapon/armor changing, the superior space used to pick up what they need for their loadout, and the ability to choose obvious co-op stories so you aren't always worried about getting shot in the back by people who look like you unless you choose to do that.
While not at all an astonishing look at the epic that Bungie has on tap, the mere fact that they have teased us with the skeleton of something great goes a long way. I believe these “tests” are only partially used to test the servers and such. Guess what though? There weren't any connection issues with people who had good internet. These were a part of the overall hype plan.
In addition to the garnering of support from multiplayer gamers that gives Destiny some pre-launch bona-fides, there is another edge to this thing. Activision has done everything possible to provide the most up to date promotion tactics. These include getting Bungie out there on the internet explaining what makes Destiny so special. Then there are the posters at Gamestop, the pre-order Vanguard goodies, the tons of images all over the net, the cost of building Destiny is well known now, and we have assurances that the guys who made Halo will succeed.
What we'd like to know is if this whole coordinated hype machine has been effective for our members. Have the two betas, the media coverage, the news updates, and all the general hype succeeded in convincing you to buy Destiny yet?
It has been one of the best hype campaigns I've seen, especially because I (the anti-multiplayer guy) am now considering a purchase.
Moment of truth: has it all convinced you to jump into Destiny on day one.
All Convinced Me Not To Buy Destiny.
Just not my type of game
I might get it at the very least close to day one if not day one. I've never been big on betas, but I think they're understandable. It looks like a good game with ambitious goals and the popular public participation to help it all keep going . I can't wait to see it all get going
I predict its the new Call of Duty. Everyone will jump on it.
Classic drunk wedding song.
Some of my friends are thinking we hope it's different on each planet. Some feel it's go to planet kill loads of bad guys/fallen. Kill the big boss rinse and repeat some have said while it's fun their concern is will there be more to it. Myself I'll either get it day 1 or wait on reviews. I do like the look of it a lot. I'm just not 100% convinced.

Okay so what do they want?
Seriously because this is an FPS game, killing things is a big part of it.
I worry about games like this and how long it will last. You see, some games that require you have people play with you also require that you need servers up to play. They wont keep the servers up forever.
However, games like Diablo 3 you can play until you die with peeps, because it is a peer to peer online game.
BTW. Why does Pavlovic and tlpn have the same exact posts on the other Destiny article?
Felt like having their voice heard, I guess. Meh. No harm no foul.
Sorry for the "double" post.
Just trying to answer both questions. Now I see the answers were just the same =(
I felt it was worth answering the same answer to the similar questions.
Admittedly I'm pretty much on board for buying this after playing the Beta. The online aspect is a bit of a turn off on the occasion. That's just my style and it does make a pretty large component of the game.
Still the control feeling is better than most any game I've ever played off the top of my head. Really it's polished down so well!
This is striking me as the Borderlands we've always wanted and there was wasn't much wrong with Borderlands in the first place!
In regards to the pre=order bonus: That's nice but can we get a more physical game art or such option?
Warframe has a lot of variety at end game and each Warframe is VERY different from eachother and "armour" in Warframe would essentially be what mods you throw on you can go for MAx armour and Max health but sacrifice things like ability usage or you can go for Maximum ability mods and make sacrifices in regards to your health and armour.
Same goes for weapons you can go for pure God like strength, which is what I do, but if you do this you sacrifice reload speed or the ability to have a larger clip, etc.
Then there are melee weapons which are a whole other story. Biggest choice with these is usually high singly hit damage or lower single hit damage but higher DPS.
Then across all weapons at end game you really have to choose the right elemental types for the enemies you will be fighting or you WILL suffer.
People might think Warframe seems fairly easy and basic at first but jump into a Tower 4 Survival and if you don't know what you are doing you will get yourself AND your entire team killed VERY fast.
I really just love Warframe because in what other shooter is being PURE melee a totally viable option?
I tried deleting right away but wouldn't delete sorry. = Thumb down made me sad I was tired and hit the wrong post to reply. =(
Ha! No worries. I thought the reply seemed pretty off topic.
There is always a phantom thumb downer.
Feels n should be a f2p game at this point. I feel more enjoyment out of warframe. Seriously it needs to step up. Enemy motion is phatetic. Graphics are ew and overall it just looks average. Wats so special about it bungie?
And the enemy motion in Warframe is better? Not dissing Warframe absolutely love that game but enemy motion isn't anything special and neither is the AI. Also Warframe deals with smaller scale environments and while Destiny isn't open world it does have VERY large environments too deal with. Also the lighting and Shadows in Destiny can be very impressive at times and I have seen nothing like that in Warframe. If you have ever played on PC you should/would know lighting and shadows are one of THE most hardware taxing graphical aspects. Destiny also has a MUCH greater draw distance compared to Warframe though that is more to do with the size of the environments than the actual graphical capability of it.
People have been dissing Destiny for its Graphics but for a cross-gen game it looks REALLY good. Does anyone remember Black Flag? That was cross-gen and barely looked better than the PS3 version.
Lol , funny since i would say the same about warframe but with practically no weapons and armor .

Still not 100% convinced but I have spent so much time in both the Alpha and Beta and I really feel this may end up being the game that dethrones CoD, not as #1 competitive FPS, but simply as the biggest game around apparently this beta is only about 8% of the full game and there are already 2 major expansions planned so Bungie definitely has room to make it even better.
Also found these on the forums for Destiny these will give you free items in the FINAL game when it releases even if you are not in the beta you can enter these codes and get the items simply log in with your PSN or if for some odd reason an Xbox user is on this site your XBL account and enter these codes in the site linked on the thread's first post, it is the same page you enter the beta codes on.

As some may have surmised by my ever more sporadic posting here, I'm busy. Really busy. And I have zero interest in spending my precious few weekly gaming hours doing what amounts to free game testing in exchange for the "privilege" of running around incomplete games. Thanks to all those that do! I'm sure your experiences will help shape the final product that I will play.
So that's a roundabout way of saying that this really does look pretty cool and I'll almost certainly pick it up, but I was on board long before even the alpha was released. I'm not sure this is going to be the instant-classic megahit Activision is clearly marketing it as. But it has great atmosphere, potentially interesting shooting mechanics, and maybe also a REALLY cool pulp sci-fi story in there. That's easily worth $60 to me (and being able to take part in message board water cooler talk with you fine people is a nice perk, too!)
While it hasn't been confirmed it is really looking like Bungie is going to do some type of carry over from the Beta because they were hosting a special event for unique gear and why would they do that if it is all simply going to be lost at the end? That wouldn't make any sense at all.
It has also already been confirmed that everyone who plays on the last day of the beta WILL get unique stuff for the final game. So if you really do have 0 free time it would at least be worth DLing the game and then hopping in on the last day to simply get the free stuff.

thanks man! Might just do that.
Played the Alpha and I have to say I found this game incredibly uninspiring and dull and won't be ordering this. The coop is awful as the games I participated in were a war of attrition not skill. The single player wasn't gripping at all.
It seems like something epic fun and cool. and what with the PS4 landscape being relatively barren of AAA big releases (that aren't remasters) Destiny seems like the best place to be right now.
I look forward to it. I have it reserved as a day 1 purchase. I want to feel part of the movement that makes it into something so big that we all dread how it's taken over too much of AAA gaming in a few years from now. =p

I am glad you are joining our movement Temjin 🙂
The hype's convinced me to at least give the beta a try, but I don't have beta access… so for now I'm still passing unless there's a demo or something similar available in the future.
im loving it – ive paid for the limited edition with the steelbook – cant wait.
it appears to have scared BF Hardline into holding off until next year – LOL
bah to much hype and tbh its like every other shooting game out. Yeh it looks pretty but meh.
The Beta convinced me that the game should be a lot of fun! Although I am worried about the amount of offline content (but the random events are AWESOME), I wasn't horrible at the Crucible matches but the Iron Banner matches were such a painful embarrassing experience…

The Beta was fun. I was not blown away by it though. Im buying it because my son loves HALO and he liked this. If it was up to me I would wait. I have a huge backlog. One thing I did not care for was the warlock bomb. It throws the game.
for me it'll probs just be when i get it cos i'm not sure i'll be great to play with the friends
happy gaming
