There are times when a subject doesn't deserve half the attention it gets.
In the case of The Last Of Us: Remastered , this is definitely one of those times.
I get that with all the high-definition overhauls, upgrades, remakes, remasters and what have you, this has become a touchy subject among gamers. I understand. I also get that previous titles like Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition laid the groundwork for the current TLoU controversy: Specifically, how can you sell essentially the same game again for $60? A game that will have been out for over a year when the new version arrives?
Thing is, nobody's going to win this argument. That's because both sides are completely correct: If you've never played The Last Of Us , spending $60 on what is guaranteed to be the definitive version makes perfect sense. You probably can't wait to do it, especially given all the praise this game has received over the past year. If, on the other hand, you've already played it, you're probably not too keen on spending another $60. Well, of course not. Just because it has all the DLC and some other goodies (like director and actor commentary) doesn't mean it's worth full pop again.
Nobody would dispute either side. It's just depends on the camp you're in; for example, if you're in the "never played it" camp, you're anxiously lying in wait for this bad boy. And there's nothing wrong with that. Of course, people will ask if Sony is just out for a cash grab, in that they're getting away with charging full price for a one-year-old game. And yeah, I understand that gamers are always worried about corresponding slippery slopes (like with microtransactions and the free-to-play model). But let's not over-think this. It is what it is.
If you've already played it, don't buy it. If you want the best version for your collection, wait for a price drop or put it on a holiday or birthday wish list. You don't have to play it again any time soon, do you? And if you haven't played it, I can't imagine what should stop you from buying this superior PS4 version. There. Can't get much simpler.
Spot on Ben. I won't judge anyone who buys it because if they haven't played it yet, or just are huge fans than more power to you.
For me, its the same game with better graphics. I might get it because it really is that good, but I really don't know if I'll end up getting it. Eventually sure, but who knows when.
100% agree, if Tomb Raider was any indication then this thing will price drop very fast and then the "best version" camp can pile on after everybody else has jumped.
I think Sony NEEDS this game on PS4 to help carry the 360 converts forward, it will reassure them that Sony's exclusives were in fact always better than those on Xbox and they always will be.
Last of Us better than Lost Odyssey? Hmm.
Lost Odyssey is such a one-off outlier it's hardly worth bringing up. It's not like it was made by an MS studio, just published at a time when MS was doing everything they could to keep JRPGs off PS3.
Uh yeah, by a huge margin.
And I love Lost Odyssey.
As much as I like Lost Odyssey it really is not better than The Last of Us. While I like the turn based combat the story is quite cheesy at times. But I do like the game, it's by far my favourite 360 game but there have been many better JRPG's even in this gen which has seen very few.
I can't understand why anyone would purchase the same game with slight enhancements when there are hundreds of other new and unique titles available on store shelves.Befuddling…
When you love something you want the very best version of it for the collection and all the stuff surrounding it and the art and soundtrack and books and whatever else you can horde.
Isn't this the chap that appears out of nowhere whenever TLoU is mentioned?
because TLOU makes every game out there look like a bucket of sh!t & if you never knew it was a ps3 game, you'd swear by the old gods & the new that it was an eight generation game.
He could be a microsoft rep like ________ & ethid or whatever his name is.
Just to put simple, Tlou on ps4 will be the best version avaliable, even tho I own the ps3 version , I will be getting the rematered ps4 version .
''when there are hundreds of other new and unique titles available on store shelves'' Hu? actually if you own a PS4 or a XBone that's not the case
yeah, dead on! I missed the Last of Us and while I have had it on my backlog, I am definitely picking up this version to play. Can't wait!
I was in the other camp for Tomb Raider. Great game, but not going to spend the money on the definitive version since there is no need for me to do so. Still happy it came out though and people were able to play that version. Good stuff!
The new TR is incredible for its smoothness, like a whole new experience.
Have'nt played the Ps4 version but tombraider on ps3 was a huge letdown.
Not really a tombraider game at all, funny enough after TR fans calling uncharted a duderaider game,we get a wanna be uncharted game with a seriously annoying as F#*K lara croft.
'Oh no i killed someone boo hoo poor me'
it needed a stamina system & killing helpless animals for just salvage(& not to keep your stamina high ala MGS3)felt uncomfortable, had no problem killing the wolves after they attacked me but cute ikkle bunny rabbits & deer???……it was a bloodbath after i realised killing everything that moved was the fastest way to upgrade your weapons.
Hitman absolutsion was a far better game imho also lara's chest needs to be at least 38DD.
On the plus Tombraider looked very nice. 7/10
I may check out the PS4 TR DE.
Hey, Remasters can sell well.
Get this, according to VGchartz the combined sales of Vita's and PS3's physical units of FFX remaster are greater than the combined totals of Lightning Returns… which had over a one month head start =)
See, sometimes remasters are more loved than sequels.

I'm glad FFX is selling more than LR. I'm playing both and LR is fun for being a crazy, senseless distraction but it's no FF.
All I know is I'd much rather replay TLoU than these first 3 chapters of KZ Shadow Fall. Man, this game seem pretty disapointing.
I'd vouch to say it's gets better as you go on.
Oh man I hope you bought it cheap.
I'm relying on Gamefly for my PS4 goodness right now so thankfully I haven't purchased it. This E3 demo stage seems good so far, though.
A nice change from the boring chapters just before it.

rarrr! I can bust through solid walls with my gun haha. makes up for getting hit by subway trains 50x
lol I got nailed by the trains too, I decided to chalk it up to the game going retro and allowing you to do stupid sh*t that gets yourself killed like in the old days.
I played through once. I would play it some more but there are other games I need to finish. But I would definitely like to experience it again. I'm probably going to trade some games into this like I did with Tomb Raider. Thought I never played Tomb Raider before that so spending $60 for that would be a little more justified.
oh rubbish, everyone disputes one specific side!
you can pick up TLoU BRAND NEW for around 40 bucks!
and the DLC was what, 20?
thats 60 bucks, or in other words HALF of what the ps4 version will be!
ok you get cut scene commentary and the ps4 enhancements, but is that really worth TWICE the price of the ps3 version?
hell you can pick up a old ps3 on ebay for around 100 bucks, so in other words you can have a ps3, AND a copy of the game, AND the DLC, for roughly the same price as just the ps4 copy!
and thats good value, how!?
there is ONE reason why $onys bring this to ps4, GREED!
no, no, the 4M or so copies the ps3 version sold is not enough, we need more!!!!!!!!!
not to mention the resource wasting.
NDs aparently been working on this since the ps3 version came out, so lets say thats 1 year pissed down the drain.
thats 1 year wasted, 1 year of development time that could of been spent on another title.
so instead of having to wait say 3 years for perhaps a sequel, were now going to have to wait 4 years.
or perhaps that year could of been spent on getting uncharted done giving the ps4 its much needed exclusive this year, but now since that times been pissed away on this, the ps4 is now not going to have anymore big exclusives left for the year.

your a talker
listening to talkers makes me thirsty
Since when is $60 half of$60?
since when is the US the only country in the world?
"since when is the US the only country in the world?"
dafuq you on about now?
If you guys take the time to read his comments you would understand. He is basically saying he doesn't live in US of A so games in his country are more expensive. Probably twice as much.
He lives in Australia, where TLoU Remastered is retailing for around about $100, depending on where you look. So, he's partly right and mostly wrong. I mean… 100 =/= 160, last I checked, and nor does 100/2 = 60.
Also, fact checking, EB has TLoU Pre-owned at $70. Assuming that that price is ubiquitous (it probably isn't), it puts the entire bundle at $10 less than the PS4 version, at best. I'd say that the extras and enhancements are worth that $10, if you already own a PS4.
Kila, I regrettably did read it. I know where he's going. He's always blaming sony for Australia prices. I get it. But it was completely irrelevant to say as a response to the other two gents.
TLoU isn't coming to PS4 because of greed. It' simply because Sony has nothing else for 2014 other than DriveClub and The Order, both of which look like they will be decent at best, absolutely dreadful at worst and I think at least in the case of DriveClub, the latter is a better possibility. Over two years for a studio that only makes racing games to get that ready and it's STILL not out. Evolution Studios sucks.
I don't see the issue. Anyone who doesn't want to pay full price for it just wait. I played the PS3 version and was very content with it, however I do see the appeal of a 1080p upgrade. In time I will be sure to buy this, especially as it comes with the DLC as a treat, but having already Platinumed The Last of Us, I have no great urge to go out and buy this. So I am waiting until say later 2015, it will be heavily reduced by then and worth the price of buying again.
This summer I'd rather play the evil within by Shinji Mikami and i'm sure it'll look amazing on my PS4 in 1080p

I swear I think this is getting more flak than the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition. People complain as if they are forced to buy this again at 60 bucks. If you don't want to buy it then guess what? Don't buy it. As for me, someone who really enjoyed this game on the PS3 and is absolutely in love with the world and characters, I'm going to buy it again for 60 bucks. I feel it's worth it, my opinion and honestly my money. All the naysayers can keep their money and buy something they want. Honestly though, we all know it's going to sell well regardless. Tomb Raider sure did.
Absolutely not. 99% of PS4 and Xbox One owners were crying about Tomb Raider's price. I've only seen a few people on youtube mention anything about TLoU remastered and it's guys who are just gamers, however, like the inconsistent hypocrites they are, the Sony fanboys who whined and cried and acted like a bunch of little school girls when Tomb Raider Definitive Edition was announced, are all over this one, just like they're all over every Sony exclusive and then make up crap about people hating when there really hasn't been much, if any hate for this. And for the record, I don't think Sony's decision can be criticized because from a business perspective it makes sense. Lets not act like there's any controversy here though. Yes, there are a few people who have given this flak, but as usual Sony fanboys blow the 'hate' way out of proportion. Not everybody has to bow down to corporate Lord Sony and thank them for everything. Frankly if you ask me, this is release just confirms to me that PS4 is an utterly worthless machine right now and I wish I hadn't let inFamous: Second Son pull me in because I'm convinced PS4 is going to stand for 'PortStation4' until at least mid-2016. Can't blame anybody but myself though, I've been early adopter for other machines in the past, including 360 and PS3, and still haven't learned my lesson.

@Gamer46
You are right not everyone has to bow down to anyone. I was one of those who was all for the Tomb Raider DE. I'm all for this one as well. I'm simply stating that folks act as if they have no choice what they do with their money, when in fact you do. I don't really think this gen will be "portstation 4" as much I just see them giving the new surge of Xbox guys who switched a chance to play something they didn't last gen but more definitive. As you've stated it was your decision to hop onto the PS4 train early on, so deal with it. As for me I'm excited about it and I'm happy to play through this game again with better graphical upgrades.

Oh I'm dealing with it, by not buying the game. But doesn't mean I have to come out in support of stuff that I find bs either. You and the others are for this are perfectly within your rights to defend Sony. On the otherside, I'm perfectly within my rights to criticize and right now the PS4 lineup is trash outside of inFamous. It is what it is. Long term, I'm sure my $400 on PS4 will have been $400 well spent, but aside from sales I haven't read about much news surrounding PS4 that I'd consider good. Ports of games not even a year old do nothing for me and as a consumer I will vote with my wallet while also putting it out there that I find it pathetic that the best games for PS4 for 2014 are slightly upgraded PS3 games. If people don't like it tough, my opinion and no thumbs downing or 'deal with it' comments from people who will defend Sony no matter what is going to change how I feel.

…ok.
I'll pick up TLOU remastered much further into the PS4 lifetime.
I may end up rebuying this for the simple fact that after Watch Dogs there won't be any triple A titles until Destiny comes. Hopefully sony launches an upgrade somehow specially when I keep reading reports that they started ps4 version soon as ps3 version was done.
dude don't ignore The Evil Within it's a AAA game
the opportunity to play TLOU with proper triggers was too much for me – got $20 trade in for my PS3 copy and preordered the remastered. Really glad i held off on buying the dlc.
TLOU and Beyond Two Souls are the two late last gen PS3 exclusives that seem perfect to upgrade to PS4.
What about a Valkyria Chronicles PS4 and Vita cross play version? Sega it is criminal what you have done to VC since it released on the PS3.
My life still yearns for anything that will do Valkyria Chronicles justice :'(
