If we told you another Disgaea was coming to the PSP, you probably wouldn't be surprised. After all, we're talking about a franchise that has literally exploded since the first installment, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness , floored critics and gamers alike back in the PS2 days.
But this is a little different. While it has been revealed by Joystiq that a new entry is headed to Sony's portable this May, we should probably clarify that it isn't what you expect. All of these games (with the exception of the spin-off action/platformer featuring the Prinny) have been turn-based strategy/RPGs, featuring the old-school game board that fans have long since loved. But Disgaea Infinite is actually a "visual novel game," which is basically a story-driven adventure along the lines of the well-received Phoenix Wright series. NIS America claims that Infinite will be the "first visual novel published in America," so perhaps that's well worth noting for the many uninitiated US gamers out there. Still, you can expect the same zany humor that is in every Disgaea and guess what? You're once again stepping into the flippers of the Prinny, who is trying to hunt down an assassin. This assassin's goal is to eliminate Laharl, the main hero in several of the games.
We're not sure what their obsession is with the Prinny but we're still expecting a hilarious, unique title. Besides, it fits well into the handheld universe, don't you think?

This would actually be quite nice to see. I'm looking forward to it.
Um.. I might sound dumb, but what does 'disgaea' mean? ^^'
Well anyways, that sounds pretty cool though!
dis- = negative prefix
Dis = one of the names of the Underworld
Gaia = the name of the Earth goddess
gaia/gaea = a name for the Earth
thus
Disgaea = a coined name for the underworld/Hell
Every made-up word doesn't have a meaning.
ah i see, thanks for the little 'vocab' lesson. ^^'
Woah, NO! Disgaea was neat (not my cup of tea) but what was clear to me was that you needed hours of ass-in-seat time to make any progress at all. This isn't a series you can play on the bus going downtown on your PSP.
Infinit's not a SRPG though, Its a Visual Novel thats supposed to play more like the Phoenix Wright Games. So it should be much more hand-held friendly. 🙂
I see that now, I flew off the handle after reading the first paragraph then went back, my bad. These pretzels are making me thirsty.
Disgaea is already on the PSP though, in RPG form World 😛
I am 100% behind the release and localization of more Visual Novel and VN Type games in America. If anyone knows where my Screen Name comes from then they know what my favorite one is.
Oyashiro let me guess Higurashi: When They Cry. But anyways though i'm 100% supporting this release especially with it coming to America.
Just give me Disgaea 4…..
This sounds like it should be a pretty interesting game. Although, an assassin trying to kill Laharl? Poor guy/girl's either severely deluded or just plain insane
