Gearbox Not Done With Borderlands

For all you Borderlands fans out there, you'll be happy to know that Gearbox says there's much more to be done.

In speaking with NowGamer , Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford says that despite all the DLC additions to the popular shooter-with-RPG-elements, the team could always make more, and the hint of a sequel can be noted in his words. Thus far, Gearbox and publisher 2K Games have provided players with four DLC expansions but that's hardly the last you'll see of Borderlands . Gearbox just loves their game, and they'll stick with it:

"We launched our fourth DLC not too long ago and when we finished the third DLC I [went] and asked the folks a few questions and they said 'We think this is going to be our last DLC.' Turns out it wasn't [laughs].

I asked the same question after the fourth and the answer was 'Well, it's the last one we've planned.' We were really excited to do more and the customers were really excited about more: We love what we've done with Borderlands and we know that there's more that we need to do and that the customers are looking forward to. We know we're not done with the franchise and we'll be letting you know what we're doing before too long."

That last bit could be an indication of a sequel, so cross your fingers. But don't forget that Gearbox also has to pump out Duke Nukem Forever this year, which, despite the 13-year wait, does look promising. …I propose we toss out any and all expectations built up over that time period, and just hope for a polished, entertaining game. As for Borderlands , the game sold very well, so there's certainly an audience for more from what should become a new series.

I had a lot of fun with borderlands. The game is great. I beat the game without doing any of the dlc, so im wanting to get to that. Problem is i beat the game with my old roomates copy, so i dont have the game. Ive seen it very cheap and perhaps if a 5th dlc package gets announced, that would definitely warrant a purchase of the game.

As far as a sequel goes it would be a day one purchase for me. I missed buying the first, and i wont make that mistake again!

bigrailer19,
Save yourself some money, just get the GOTY copy, & all that DLC should already be "a given" in that disc.

True. Thats a good point. I think im still going to wait for the word on the 5th dlc package. But i think its still cheaper getting the goty edition. I think you save 10 bux anyways.

I love Borderlands, and I've finished it already, However, I'm just waiting on a cheap price for all 4 DLC bundled in one.
I was hoping that being a Plus member would give me a discount, but not to be… =/

I was all over this game until they changed it to cell shade graphic style.

That completely turned me off from it.

Well I'M done with Borderlands.

Calling that an RPG was just plain silly. All they did was add grinding to an fps.

I hope they are done with all the DLC (especially as I already purchased the Borderlands GOTY edition with all the DLC) 🙂

A sequel would be awesome though!

Wreckless, you read my mind. They could do lots of tweaking with Borderlands 2 (not having to hit select to see your map would be nice…) and your list would be just fine. I played the hell out of this game- two playthroughs and all DLCs (Moxxi…yawn), great fun in single and just started co-op with my son, which is a blast.
The cell-shaded look is great IMO, it just feels right for this game. Have to agree with Alienage re the RPG tag being a bit misleading tho…it's kinda there, but making B2 more like a "proper" RPG would be sheer bliss.

I never played it, something turned me off, maybe it was the cel shading. Take that out of the second one and we'll talk.

I guess i dont understand why the cell shading would "turn you off". Is it just the look of it in general? Or, something else about it? Because didnt you just buy POP? Its cell shaded. Granted it looks better. Anyways just curious.

Funny though when i picked it up and started playing the cell shaded look really fits in the game. It fills in the atmosphere very well. It goes hand in hand with the game. Its pretty good, id reccomend renting it or buying it even. Ive seen it for $12 bux.

I think that art style lends itself to certain types of play, slashers and adventures like Afro Samurai, Splatterhouse, and PoP seem reasonable to me. In RPGs too.

But for an FPS which looked great before they HAD to do it cell shaded to make the damn thing run? Not so much.

??? What does that have to do with gaming? This is a fantastic shooter! The graphics are actually quite good. You will not notice the cell shaded graphics after a couple of hours. I got a nice Diablo feeling from this RPFPS! The loot was a lot of fun to look forward to. I am actually 25% through my 2nd play through. The DLC was great especially General Knoxx. You can skip Mad Moxxi as you cannot level up with that DLC. Anyone that has not played this game due to the cell shaded graphics has completely missed out on something special. Please announce Part 2! 🙂
Edit – Not to mention playing Borderlands in COOP!!! I didn't have that option unfortunately and I just loved it! But I have heard that it's vastly superior playing in COOP mode.

I'm kinda enjoying borderlands. The last update doesn't work properly with some of the fatty ps3's and mine is one of them.

If I update it, the game freezes every 5-30 minutes. If I don't update it, it doesn't freeze at all, but I can't play online and when my buddy comes over to play split-screen we both have my name over our heads.

I emailed them and asked them about it, but apparently they are one of those companies who just send out a generic reply without actually reading your email. It took 2 weeks to even get that reply.

What happened to customer support.

Try this: 1-866-219-9839

It's the tech support number listed in the read.me file for the PC version. Should work for the console version too I'm guessing. Can't hurt to try.

I loved Borderlands and all the expansions, except the Moxxi one, and still play it online with full groups. Still would like to know what Borderworlds is since they trademarked it a while back.
