Games, Movies That Will Support 3D On PlayStation 3

Let's just assume you get super lucky and receive a new 3D HDTV for a holiday gift. Well, you need to know what games and movies support the in-your-face tech, right?

You've probably heard of a few, but more compatible titles are added every week, so the PlayStation Blog posted a helpful list of current 3D games and movies, along with a few future products that will boast 3D. Among the games are the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops , EyePet for the PlayStation Move, Gran Turismo 5 , and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (thanks to a PSN software update). In 2011, we can expect Crysis 2 , ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection , Killzone 3 , Mortal Kombat and oh yes, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception . For 3D Blu-Ray, they list off a few popular ones, including "Clash of the Titans," "Alice in Wonderland," "My Bloody Valentine," and "The Polar Express." Can't let that TV and those glasses go to waste, now can you? There have been reports of possible health issues related to vision in regards to 3D, but most of those warnings are associated with kids 7 of age and under.

At any rate, it's interesting to see. Next year, more and more people will have the ability to see things in another dimension in their living rooms. Pretty cool.

Nice. I broke down and bought a Sony Bravia NX800 model. I couldn't resist. I said 3D was still to expensive but it's a freakin kick ass TV and Ultimate Electronics had it on sale for $1800 while Sony was selling the exact same model in their store for over $3000. Plus we wanted to put a new TV in the bedroom. The old projection Samsung we had wasn't cutting it anymore. I haven't bought any 3D glasses or the transmitter yet but there's plenty of time for that. I'll probably nab some of that stuff in time for Killzone 3 or the ICO/Shadow of Colossus Collection.

ICO/Shadow of Colossus Collection is going to be awesome in 3d.Imagine the 5th colossus or the bird colossus flying at you in 3d it's going to be awesome.
I don't have 3dtv but u enjoy it when collection comes out.

Awesome, just curious. Whats the smallest 3D tv out now?

Jawknee

I think 40" is the smallest. I haven't seen any Sony models that size but Samsung makes a few. Though when playing with the Samsungs and the Sony 3DTV's at Ultimate Electronics, Sony has Samsung beat in the 3D department. Samsung's is a tab fuzzy and doesn't pop out as much. Sony's 3D images are much clearer.

sony do make 40 inch 3D TVs, the one im looking at now since my crappy D series died out is the HX800 which comes in 40, 46 or 50 inch.
either that or the samsung C7000, heard better things about the sammy but i have not been able to get a look at it all the stores are sold out.
JB have a great sale on now, the HX800 is normally 2600 but they have marked it down to 1400 for a "limited time" best thing they will throw in a 2nd pair of glasses and the transmitter in for free!
over 3K worth of equipment for 1400 bucks?
not bad, not bad at all!

Well, I felt similarly a few times, but I am going to hold out a little… mid next year/early fall… by then I expect these TV's to be even more reasonably priced and there will more content to chose from. Not to mention the content available now would have dropped in price as well…

I will probably pick up Killzone 3 in February as it is one of my favourite IP's, but won't play it in 3D until I get the TV a little later on.

I know there are moves to create TV displays that don't need 3D glasses, but who knows when they will be available. If these come out Jawknee, will you trade in the new Bravia you got, or will you keep it for a long stint this time?

I'll be super lucky if I received that asian chick for Christmas. Sucks that 3DTV won't be for everyone but then again luckily it's an optional thing.

I bought a second PS3 (160 gig) at Best Buy yesterday. They were selling them at $299 as usual, but they were handing out $100 BB gift certificates with them….and I had $90 in Rewards coupons to use, bringing my cost down to $210. That kinda makes it $110 in total.

Currently playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, with the realism mods, is a great game.

As hard as they try to make 3D look hot and sexy, those glasses just kill it. I think we'll look back at this tech in less than 10 years and say "What were we doing? I can't believe we used to do that".

This year the 3D that uses polarized lenses will make an appearance in the Home, it's as close to glasses free as you're going to get and still have a multi-viewer experience right now. The polarized lenses are cheap and light and easy to make and come in various styles so even people with glasses can get clip-ons.

Good to know. Better is always usually just around the corner.

I still prefer the model on the right, funny glasses not withstanding.

As usual, that list of games is stronger than the list of movies. Anyone buying 3D tech for film has GOT to be out of their minds.

Agreed. When I was picking up my TV there was a guy who bought a 3DTV and a Blue Ray player. The store clerk kept pushing him to buy a PS3, he refused.

That's because not all movies are meant to be in 3D. Who wants to watch a 3D drama. It only suits action films or animated films like Pixars. While games are made in 3D animation, they may aswell take the next step and benefit from this technology, it's far more suited to games than films.

Grumpy….Alienage, why so grumpy today?

😉

Not every movie is made in 3D. Games can more easily integrate 3D into the product. Don't forget 3D stills too.

Ultima has a point. I wouldn't want to watch something like There Will Be Blood in 3D. Would be pointless.

Wreckless… interesting direction… from what I have generally experienced though, if a product is engineered well, and high quality content for it is available for consumption, no reason why you cannot enjoy the experience in 3D. If Sony creates worlds and experiences that people like they will profit from it.

From a corporate perspective, as the markets generally become saturated overtime, companies such as Sony have to create/open-up future markets by re-selling ideas to the consumer in a fresh and unique way.

The baseline idea for content is generally the same, however, if you can re-experience similar content or hardware in a new way, and they make it attractive enough for people to buy into that fantasy, they can re-sell it and profit from it…

Would you like to listen to all your music in mono, i surely wouldn't? So future developments are important, pushing the boundaries is also important, otherwise things would just stay the same… Whilst 3D is not necessary, I think if the experience and the contents are reasonably priced once can have some fun with the stuff…

ahh, 3DTV's
theyre kinda like a ticket for the titanic. they seem amazing at first, but soon you realise you've made a terrible mistake by getting one.
im gunna wait a few years and see where this tech goes

Once the ones that require no active shutter glasses or transmitter arrive it will be better. Then when you buy one, it won't seem such a waste because it's an excellent HDTV when it's not doing 3D and you don't have a pile of useless accessories cluttering up the entertainment center.

3D is just another feature on the TV. The TV itself is a great buy. And if people can find a good deal like I did, there's no reason not to take advantage if you're in the market for a new TV.

3D is pretty cool. I was able to checkout GT5 on my sister's 3D TV she just got. It was pretty sweet. Then I checked out a couple of movies in 3D and that was fun too.

It was funny because I was drawing a bit of a blank when wondering what games support 3D and then BAM! this list comes out. Comes out that I have a handful of games that support 3D already, right on!

I don't get it…why does 3D need to be enabled for the PS3? From what I've heard, the xbox does 3D for everything just by having the right TV. Why not the PS3? :S

they left out TRON and the PoP and sly collections.
TRON i would not bother with though, had such high expectations for that game but MY GOD IS IT BORING!
like, so boring i would honestly rather watch Oprah!
im looking into getting one soon since my older sony died and theres no point buying a new TV that does not have 3D compatibility.
sure there cheaper, but in a years time ill be kicking myself if i dont get a 3D one and i wont be buying a new one for 4+ years so guess take the opportunity while i can.
