Ben-DutkaGearbox says they're not currently working on Borderlands 3 .
But maybe they're mincing words. Maybe they are working on a new series entry…it just isn't a true sequel.
According to a rumor published at GamePointsNow , the studio is actually working on a "pre-sequel" and it's set to arrive on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC some time this fall. No word yet if it's also in the works for the next-gen consoles.
The unannounced project tackles the events between the original Borderlands and the sequel, and Gearbox has teamed up with the 2K Australia studio to pump this one out. It seems the story will involve a younger Handsome Jack, and we'll assume the role of one of his four lieutenants: Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer, and Fragtrap (the "militarized Claptrap"). Evidently, the setting is the moon of Elpis and Hyperion's iconic H-shaped base from Borderlands 2 .
As you might expect, they're supposedly promising a "bazillion weapons," along with – wait for it – jet packs. Lastly, it seem oxygen will play a "huge role" in the game; guess we'll have to wait and see what that's all about.

That's great, but has anyone heard any words on the Vita Borderlands 2? Some of the plus members have put off playing Borderlands 2 on the PS3 just so they can continue it on a mobile platform.
Alright so I haven't met anyone else who is in that position, but I can't be the only one.
Borderlands 2 Vita was playable at GDC last month, and several members of the media gave their impressions. There are also some gameplay videos on Youtube with off-screen Vita footage. That said, the impressions were fairly negative, citing slowdown and other performance issues. Still, if it is even close to a complete Borderlands experience on a handheld, I'm sure most Vita owners will be delighted, myself included.
Sweet. But hopefully it comes to PS4.
I read this as, "we want to build one more game on the current framework before we start on making something actually new".

I got most of my classes to the max level before they added more levels to them. Borderlands 2 was a great great great game.
Sure, they might "milk" the franchise, but making a story of how he got the Moon Base and took control over the planet would be very interesting to me.
As long as this is a FULL GAME and not some large expansion pack that is.

Aside from that, okay. Glad to hear the 2K Australia is a thing again, after being merged with 2K Marin, then shut down. Apparently they worked on Bioshock Infinite too. Didn't know that. Never played Borderlands, have no desire to, so just wanted to say that.
well that sounds all quite gud really i will wait see more details yet another promising title underway hopefully looking forward to it.

after 2 amazing massive games, and tales of the borderlands also coming, isent it about time we had a new game?
a new new game, not another ho hum been there done that game to squeeze in between current versions to milk that bit more out of the old cow before they move onto next gen features and titles.
id say THIS is what we waited SEVEN freaking years for new consoles for!?
but not being a next gen title, replace that with come on weve been getting the same old sh*t for SEVEN freaking years now give us something new!
