FFX/X-2 HD Remasters Hit The Top Of Japan’s Sales Charts

Remember when we wondered what might happen if the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster actually outsold Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII ?

Well, we concluded that Square Enix would remain oblivious, while the rest of the world saw it as vindication. And it appears that the anticipated HD remasters are off to a very good start in Japan.

According to the Japanese sales numbers for the week of December 23-29 (as noted by Dual Shockers ), the FFX and X-2 HD upgrades are at the top of the charts, even beating out the acclaimed 3DS title, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds . It's even cooler to note that both Vita iterations (FFX HD and FFX-2 HD) are in the top 10; interestingly, X-2 is at #4 while X is at #10. The two HD remasters are due out in North America on March 18, 2014.

Really, if prettied-up versions of decade-old games top your latest installment in any given franchise, you might want to seriously reconsider that franchise's direction. But hey, what do I know?

We are/will be vindicated, but that isn't going to amount to much. As the franchise continues to unravel I'm just gonna really really look forward to playing these games. I admit that back in the PS2 days I didn't do some of the side questing like monster hunts and extra Aeons in X, so it will be like new content to me. X-2 is really just a bonus, but I do hope they made it easier to get 100%.

Dualshockers doesn't provide any numbers. So its hard to tell if the remakes sold a lot or even better than Lightning Returns.

The fact that it sold better than Zelda is also not a big indicator of how much it sold. Because unlike what some people think, Zelda games don't sell that great in Japan. For instance, the last Zelda game for the 3DS also made its debut at #2. Below a PSP game. And it barely sold more than 150k units at that. Zelda's appeal is felt mostly in the West, not in Japan.

We need to wait until they release the actual numbers. Which should happen soon.

Best part of FFX was the monster ranch.
I let the game sit on my shelf for 5 years after playing through the story (a few times)

Then in a moment of absolute boredom I broke the monotony of the moment and put in FFX
[FF12 had just come out and I was not a fan]

Quickly realized that the monster ranch is an entire other half of the game and the battles with those monsters are epic.
Collecting the fiends gets old fast but the ends do justify the means.

Good to know Amnesiac.

As far as the full sales go I don't think we even get numbers any more (certainly not for digital)so that's going to be tough to prove.

Seems to me people are starving for a real FF. So much so they gobbled up a remake. My God, you suck Squeenix.

I still can't decide which version to get. I feel like this being an old game it should be played on the a Vita. But I'd also like it on the PS3. Squeenix needs to bundle to two versions. Losers.

@World actually X-2 will be harder to get 100% because theirs abit of extra stuff added in it because its the Last Mission version that JP got that we didn't
2 extra dress spheres
a colisieum with a bunch of extra bosses like Tidus Auron Seymour

theirs like 9 or 10 cups to the colisieum

also catnip accessory has been made pretty much useless it still does 9999 wen low damage but it berserks and slows your char

Errr… How do you beat Trema without the catnip accessory?

It's possible with max levels, the mascot dressphere, and a lot of luck. I don't believe I have the patience to do it a second time, though. Beating Nemesis and Tema are kind of once in a gaming lifetime accomplishments.

I wonder what the sales numbers are…

And how that compares to Lightning Returns first week of 277k sales or even FFXIII-2's 524k first week.

Good to know people still value a true JRPG experience 🙂 I certainly have my Special Edition on pre-order, cannot wait to experience both games again.

But one cannot deny that it looks pretty bad on S-E if an old re-release outsells their latest new game… But then I think we all know why considering the direction S-E has taken XIII. I'm just hoping XV will bring the flavour and sense of adventure back, if not I am willing to overlook it and see what XVI brings but beyond that, I think even I would have to call it quits 🙁

Still Final Fantasy X, oh my, this will not be easy to Platinum… just thinking of the Dark Aeons and how many hours that will take… o_0 and I am genuinely looking forward to X-2 and will be giving it another try after getting fed up with it before. Also interested in the Japanese exclusive content which we'll be getting too. This release has buckets of value and is worth any JRPG ;lovers time.

Also, to people who are not familiar with Classic JRPG's, I reckon X is a great place to start as it. has an engaging battle system, voice acting, a well paced story and offers plenty of extra things to do at your own pace.

This tells you a lot about single player games, FFX after so many years are still selling. Where as games like Resistance MAG are losing value because they eventually lose multiplayer support. Offline gaming is timeless. I hope ppl understand that when they make their purchases

That's what I find sad about gaming today, your product is mostly temporary because of the online focus.
