Bungie’s “Always-Connected” Destiny Coming To PS3 In 2014?

Bungie is on their own, which means their new project will be multiplatform (even though the PlayStation 3 version will apparently arrive well after the Xbox 360 iteration).

And as Joystiq has obtained a double-sided poster along with other media evidence, we now know a little more about Bungie's Destiny project.

Supposedly, this will be an "always-connected" first-person shooter where gamers can create a character and earn customizable weapons, gear and vehicles. The game may also boast both cooperative and competitive multiplayer, as well as "public and social activities," although the latter hasn't been specifically defined. If you didn't already know, Destiny is Bungie's first project after splitting from Microsoft; the team is now with mega-publisher Activision and as we're all aware, Activision doesn't do "exclusive." They always want to target the largest audience possible.

As for Destiny , it's rumored to be a lot like Halo (no surprise there) and might launch later this year for the Xbox 360, with a 2014 launch scheduled for the PS3. So are you excited?

Not at all. Sounds like an expensive flop.

don't know what to think yet. I'm not one to get involved in massively online connected and social based experiences. Also, it looks like the game will be aggressively locked down by MS so it'll feel more like a MS controlled property than a Sony one.

If PS4 releases this year and all these huge games releasing in 2013 and 2014 and all the games that don't have release dates yet that could release late 2013 or 2014, I wonder if not including PS3 disc BC on PS4 would be a good idea. It would benefit Sony greatly if PS4 has disc BC. One reason being, people would sell their PS3 to make PS4 cost them way less and they could still play all the gigantic amount of games releasing in 2013 and 2014. Another is, if PS4 doesn't have PS3 disc BC a lot of consumers will wait until they are completely done with their 7th gen games before buying an 8th.

Yes, sounds like a game I'd avoid even on PS3. "Always online" shooters are a genre I have zero interest in.

There's some fans of MAG and Dust 514 but I don't see em burning up any charts or airwaves.

Nope. I'll not say its going to suck but i have a feeling its going to suck. Like one of those games that was never meant to be but is selling based on the developers name alone. Hunted Demons Forge.

I keep forgetting that Acti is publishing this.

I refuse to support Bobby Kotex's (I know that isn't how it's spelled.) money-grabbing greed machine.

It sounds…normal, I guess. Doesn't really seem like anything to get excited over.

Just out of curiosity, doesn't this sound like DUST 514? Or am I off base on that?

I see where you're coming from with your line of thinking, but between now and whenever this game gets released Destiny will inevitably garner much more media attention than Dust is currently receiving.

More media attention will likely draw in more interest for Destiny, even if the two do wind up being very similar games.

Activision doesn't do free to play as far as I know, but I bet my year's salary that on top of paying for the game up front they have Bungie employ a microtransaction system like what Dust has.

Bungie also has a former loyal customer base in Halo players to draw in extra sales just off of Bungie's name alone.

When I first read this article yesterday, I just kept thinking DUST 14 too. This game does have the fact that Bungie is behind it so that helps them, but DUST 514 has the EVE universe so…six of one and a half-dozen of the other?!

really hope this is not a MMO, bungie have such a touch with creating stories!
id be a massive waste to see this go the way of a MMO!

one thing really annoying me recently, how many developers have left where they have been for years, stating they left because they want to create something different?
then go back and do pretty much the same thing!
bungie left M$ because they were bored doing halo, they wanted to do something besides SCIFI.
theen in comes destiny, a SCIFI shooter.
sound familiar?
half of IW left because they were bored, they wanted to create a new IP.
so they go and create one, but one thats apparently another military shooter.
media molecule says no more LBP, were bored with it.
so they create a new IP very similar to it.
what the?
just goes to show whats wrong with the industry these days, they see different as black and grey.
come on, for once, can we think outside the box?
