A reader has turned us onto what is guaranteed to be a YouTube phenomenon amongst gamers everywhere.
See, Uwe Boll is this movie director who has frequently taken video games and turned them into feature films. As most will tell you, the results have often been abysmal and in some cases, comically tragic. One of his more recent attempts is the movie adaptation of BloodRayne , which unsurprisingly turned out badly.
Well, in this interview with screenwriter Guinevere Turner, we get a behind-the-scenes look at her clash with Boll and her opinion of the final product.
That's one of the funniest and saddest things we've ever seen. We're still not sure how someone like Boll gets into the position of film director, and we have no idea why he keeps making movies. On the other hand, just to be fair, we are only hearing one side of the story here…although we're not sure Turner has much motivation to lie or tell stories.
Uwe boll directs his films independently. So he can direct how often he wants if he has the money to do so. The question is how is he getting his funding!?

The German government. I had heard rumours for years that they would cut his stipends or something yet he continues to churn out trash that not even bad-movie lovers like myself would even care to watch. I'd rather sit through Barely Legal (2011) over anything from Uwe.
Rampage wasn't too bad though. Didn't even seem like it was directed by Boll.

I remember reading about that. He used to be able to completely write off his investments for his films. So even if he made a 50 million dollar movie that made 10, he could just write it off get it back and only be taxed on the profits. The German government put a stop to that though.
The last I heard, if you invest in a movie in Germany, the German government gives you about half of the money back.
I hate to post jack, but holy crap, one of is more recent films is Blubberella:
"An action comedy centered on an overweight woman whose footsteps cause explosions and whose dual swords are used against anyone who makes fun of her. … Half vampire, half woman, and all trouble, Blubberella loves nothing better than killing Nazis and a substantial turkey on rye."

*mind explodes*
My friend Behrouz is a big fan of movies but not of video games and yet even he knows who Uwe Boll is and has called him the worst excuse of a motion film director ever.
He is the pure reason why gaming adaptations have a bad rep. Silent Hill was a fantastic adaptation and Tomb Raider was not far off. I watched House of the Dead one night and after that I do not feel obliged to watch anything with his involvement.
By coincidence, I just watched House Of The Dead tonight. Horrible, of course, but the first 15 minutes are worth watching for reasons other than artistic.
p.s. Guinevere Turner's movies are usually worth watching for the same reasons. Some are also excellent.

I feel pathetic for being excited for Boll's House of the dead at the time………..
I SHOULD JUST END MY LIFE WITH THIS SHAME!!!!!
That's hilarious. It shows just how screwed up some movie production is. I may not be a screen writer, but even I know you don't go with draft 1, and you don't rewrite the majority of the script on the fly, and you don't let the actors improvise it either. It sounded like it was time for Ms Turner to have her name replaced with Alan Smithee.
The Potatoe Bug overdosed on DDT!!
Direct Directing Techniques……….lol!!
Trash!!
the 1st BloodRayne is to me good campy fun
the 2ed movie is starship troopers 2 bad
thou i did get the BloodRayne DVD more for the free PC game it came with 😛
i actually saw a movie of his that was okay. it was a movie called rampage. i thought it was an okay movie and was quite surprised to see his name pop up as director.
there have been good videogame based movies such as silent hill. some of the resident evil movies are almost watchable. the first re movie was decent and i loved the pull back at the end where alice stumbles out of the hostpital into the decimated streets of racoon city. i think re afterlife is one of the best looking 3D movies i have ever seen. that movie made well over 200 million dollars by the way. one thing paul anderson pointed out is that each re installment has made more money than the previous film. that's a pretty impressive accomplishment. i'm sure capcom is quite happy about that. it's also interseting how the games and re movies borrow off each other. re4 had the laser corridor from the first movie in it.
speaking of zombies….i absolutely love amc's the walking dead series. what a terrific show with great production values. it is fantastic series that i highly suggest to all the zombie lovers out there. damn that is one slick/sick show. i can't get enough of it.
Yup, walking dead is amazing. Short but amazing none the less
The only Boll film i saw was Rampage. If thats a good movie from him, as i'm told, i'll make it a point to skip his other stuff.
I don't know, he usually has babes in his movies so it's not all bad.
Why the thumbs down……..that's obviously the only good comming from his movies. I'll try to even the score.
I bet DragonBall Evolution is still worse
And he has two more movies based on games coming out. Zombie Rampage, and In the Name of the King 2. I can smell the fail from here already.
Now that we know the truth Guinevere Turner you are forgiven…. Uwe Boll however not so much
At least his early movies like Bloodrayne were good for a laugh. His movies now are just really really boring because he's tried to get away from the campiness and nuttyness that make some of his films watchable.
Either way though, they're all obviously the bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality. This is just more proof of that.
Well, wouldn't mind knowing more about this particular screenwriter. 😉
She was in two of Kevin Smith's movies so that alone added some plus points on the chart. For me anyways. Though I did kinda like American Psycho, which she co-wrote and stared.
Haha sorry Ben just read up and she fancies women.
And I always say that's only because she never found a real man. 😉
I think you misspelled , it s not a real men , it s berserk :p
Yes, she is rather lovely isn't she…Actually her face rings a bell in my head, I have seen her in something else before. Wish I could remember what.

Anyone watched Postal ( funny stuff )???
It was actually not bad at all , second best of his after rampage .Actually they are the only 2 worth mentioning in my opinion .
It was horrible in my opinion. Really had nothing to do with the source material. Sausage fest scenes didn't help either.
Personaly i don t care about the source material , maybe why i liked it .
Postal was pretty funny. I think if you didn't find it funny you are probably American. It poked fun at a lot of stuff the rest of the world stereotypes as typical American traits.
There is even a joke in it about how he gets funding for his movies. I'm not defending the guys work, just I found Postal pretty funny considering I was expecting house of the dead quality.
Uwe Boll is a cinematic wunderkind.
im sure he said that if a petition was made with so many people signing it he'd give up filming game to movie adaptions, that came and went and..here we are….
