If you're hoping for a Tales title to arrive for the PlayStation 4 (or Wii U), those hopes might be futile. At least for a while.
Series producer Hideo Baba first informed PlayStation Vita owners that sadly, the latest two Tales remakes won't be leaving Japan. Then he said they don't plan to bring a new franchise installment to either Sony or Nintendo's new machines.
This according to Gimme Gimme Games :
"I think the Wii U is a brilliant console that offers a lot of innovation and possibility for new types of gameplay, However at this current time we don’t have any development plans to make any Tales of games for the Wii U. I’m sure you’re wondering, ‘Do you have any plans to develop for PS4 at this time?’ Just like the Wii U, we actually don’t have any plans."
That's unfortunate. JRPG fans can still count on a few upcoming titles but really, those Tales games are always intriguing for those who still enjoy the increasingly niche sub-genre. I still think there's a market for selling JRPGs, especially on PlayStation consoles, but times certainly have changed.
