37 Japanese Game Makers List Their Top 5 Titles For 2015

So, what did some of Japan's top game designers pick for their favorite titles of 2015?

Japanese publication Famitsu showed off the top 5 from some of Japan's top game makers; a grand total of 37 offered their picks for the year.

As cited by DualShockers , there's quite the variety of games on these lists, and guys like Tetsuya Nomura, Goichi Suda (Suda51), Akihiro Hino, Tomonobu Itagaki, and Hajime Tabata listed some surprising titles. It's clear that mobile and handheld entertainment is huge in the Land of the Rising Sun, and you will find a fair number of Western titles, too. Times certainly have changed; it'd be a mistake to assume you'll see an over-abundance of < a href="https://temp.psxextreme.com/ps4-reviews/99.html" Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain , even if it does appear more than once.

Kitase unsurprisingly has Mobius Final Fantasy at #1 but he also lists Splatoon and The Last Of Us: Remastered , while Hino puts Final Fantasy XIV in the top spot and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the runner-up position (MGSV was #5), and Bandai Namco boss Katsuhiro Harada has Tekken 7 and Persona 4: Dancing All Night as his top two games of 2015.

Interesting stuff.

Stand Up And Defend Your Unpopular Choice For GotY 2015

Game of the Year is sometimes predictable, but there are times when you surprise yourself with a certain pick. Some years, you just gotta stand up and profess your love of a decidedly unpopular game. Or, at least, a game that's widely regarded as "good" but definitely not GotY material.

Did that happen to you in 2015?

If you were to select your favorite game of the year, or if you had to pick the title that would win the overall top-dog award for 2015, what would it be? And when you announce your selection, do all your friends laugh? Or look at you as if you had lobsters crawling out of your ears? Sure, it's perfectly normal to choose Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain or The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , but maybe you just loved – God forbid – Call of Duty: Black Ops III ? It's always interesting whens someone picks a dark horse, and it's even more intriguing when they defend that horse…

Me, I adore Everybody's Gone to the Rapture , even if everyone wasn't exactly "rapturous" about the indie hit. I'm not saying it's going to win PSXE's Game of the Year or anything but it has a special place in my heart, that's for sure. What about you?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Wins GotY At Game Awards 2015

The show is over and the results are in.

Last night during The Game Awards 2015, over ten major awards were presented to the very best interactive productions of the year, and winners received a statue designed by "Lord of the Rings" props and effects studio WETA. Check it out, along with the full list of winners, here .

The night's biggest award, overall Game of the Year, went to the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . It beat out top-tier contenders Bloodborne , Fallout 4 , Super Mario Maker and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain . The Witcher 3 studio CD Projekt Red won Developer of the Year, and the epic open-world fantasy RPG also landed Best Role-Playing Game. MGSV won Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer went to Splatoon , the Best Fighting Game was Mortal Kombat X , the Best Narrative was Her Story , and Rocket League won Best Independent Game and Best Sports/Racing Game.

So, agree or disagree with the winners?

Which Games In 2015 Have You Found To Be Most Satisfying?

Obviously, "satisfying" is a very subjective term. But that's really the point.

What do you feel has been the most fulfilling gaming experience of 2015 so far? I'm not really talking about the game you think is best; I'm talking more about the one you couldn't put down, the one you kept thinking about after going to bed.

For instance, I wouldn't say The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the best game of the year (even though it's worthy of being in contention), but it's the one that grabbed me right from the outset and didn't let go. And you know, for some, "satisfying" might be something very specific: For instance, you might think a big surprise – a game you never expected to like but loved – is at the top of your list.

Then there are experiences that are unique and memorable, so I don't want to discount them from the "satisfying" or "fulfilling" list. Titles like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture , Until Dawn , Bastion , Super Mega Baseball , Axiom Verge and The Order: 1886 all qualify, but some for very different reasons.

Which games are on your list?

If You Had To Guess, 2015’s Game Of The Year Will Be…

With so many great games on the horizon for 2015, perhaps it'd be difficult to choose.

And of course, we don't know about every single promising title that will launch this year, so this question is way premature.

Still fun to consider, though: At the end of the year, which game will be the best? Which is the one that will have secured the most 9s from critics? Which one will be your favorite? Do you think CD Projekt Red will wow the gaming world with the hugely anticipated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ? Or will Naughty Dog rule the roost yet again with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End ? Is it possible that Batman: Arkham Knight will be even better than any previous entry? And what about new PlayStation 4 exclusive IPs like Bloodborne and The Order: 1886 ? Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain might make a strong case, too, just 'cuz it's MGS.

Then again, maybe you're a world-renowned optimist and you firmly believe Final Fantasy will reclaim long-lost glory with FFXV. Whatever your pick, let us know in the Comments and remember to defend that pick! Also, don't forget that your "favorite" game of the year won't necessarily be the "best." In fact, those two games are rarely the same for me. 😉
