Sony Stores In Canada Didn’t Do So Hot, So They’re Gone

Looks like Canadian consumers just didn't care enough about Sony stores.

As reported by CBC News , all 14 Sony stores in Canada will be closed within the next two months. The company will then redirect all of its business through its national network of Sony retailers, online stores, and the "Sony-trained Telesales team."

As the company said in a statement:

Our network of Sony authorized retailers offer a full range of Sony products and will be supported by our in-store Merchandisers and Product Trainers on an ongoing basis in order to ensure that our past customers have continued access to knowledgeable Sales consultants who can support their ongoing Sony electronics needs."

The news comes on the same day that Target announced it'll be closing all its stores in Canada as well. They claimed they were "unable to find a realistic scenario that would get Target Canada to profitability until at least 2021." Wow, guess nobody's really buying much up there. Either that, or they just don't like Target…and I can understand that.

As for the Sony stores, there are plenty of ways to get those products, right?

Sony stores are really expensive. I visited one in Seattle and while it was nice, holy f*ck the prices were high. $30 for a low end blu-ray.

…sony stores are nice…but they're just not a place where I'd get a Sony product from. The prices are just…

yeah as for both companies they are both going through restructuring and such things for awhile now so these stores closing is just symtom of that and i've never personally used a sony store so well i guess if this does some good for sony then we can get at something postitive out of it but it sucks for the people who work at the shop though they will have to get new jobs

happy gaming

As a Canadian, apparently Wal-mart was price matching all of Target's merchandise, so Walmart ended up being the better choice (I personally would rather go to Target).

As for the Sony Store, the only one close to me closed a long time ago, and nothing in there ever caught my interest. I went to EB Games for my games and consoles, and any regular electronics store for other things. Just never really caught on, I guess.

not only canada, $ony stores closed here years ago!
replaced with 2 small kiosks for the whole of NSW!
never stock anything either, really want to get the ZX2 PHA-3 and ZX7 but they don't have them on display you can only order them from them, and NO ONE has them on display.
so I'm suppose to pay 1200 on a music player, 800 on a headphone amp, and 700 on a pair of headphones, without even trying any of them!?
seriously!?
only $ony………..

No one care about Sony products anymore. The only thing people care about Sony is PlayStation…

It doesn't carry the same brand weight as say, Apple. Not only that, but while they were sharp looking, the stores were uber expensive.

You could get the same Sony product just down the hall in the same mall for less, sometimes.

As an aside, Target is closing all it's Canadian locations, too.

The only thing I ever bought from a Sony store was the first Kingdom Hearts about 12 years ago or so.
