It's time to re-imagine a cyberpunk classic.
One of the more unique video games of the 90s, which involved memory manipulation, lost identities, corruption, and cyborgs, is being revived for current-generation consoles to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The game's name is Flashback , which first released for the Amiga back in 1992. Ubisoft has announced that French developer VectorCell will produce the game that will arrive on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade later this year.
This update will unsurprisingly feature new 3D HD graphics, fresh controls, and a new advancement mechanic for protagonist Conrad B. Hart. VectorCell also plans to make this psychological sci-fi adventure more accessible than the original, as they said just porting the same game would be "rather punishing through today's lenses." Well, yeah, most all games from past eras would seem really tough these days. Still, the developers intend to keep the game's soul and simply "put it into a new body."
In fact, five of the fifteen guys who created the original title are working on this remake of sorts, including original creator Paul Cuisset. This sounds great, but I can't shake the fact that the last game Cuisset and VectorCell made was the extremely disappointing AMY , which was an absolute debacle. I really hope they don't mess this one up that badly.

I played this game years ago on the Atari Jaguar. From what I remember, it was pretty fun,
A truly great classic! I played this on the PC and SNES. The difficulty level is high which a good thing. Cannot wait to buy this D1. Now if we could just get Out of this World and Fade to Black in HD graphics I would be so happy! Also, release these on the Vita would be absolutely mind blowing!

Another world/Out of this world was harder and shorter but just as awesome !!
Fade to black…for me this game kept getting pushed to the back of my PS1 catalogue and then the disc disappeared from the box 🙁
Played the first level on the ship though!
Deathtower in HD 🙂
They actually already did Out of This World in HD. It's been out a few months I think.
Would also love to see Black Thorne HD! Out of this World was my favorite SNES game, it shocked me at how realistic the character moved.
They'y best not f**k this up.
One of my favourite megadrive games!
No need to change the controls,a retarded monkey could figure them out pretty quick.
i'll keep an eye on this!!
This is tremendously exciting, I had this back on the Sega Megadrive (Genesis) I'll be interested to see how they tackle it. That image there suggests a cell-shaded approach but it could also be more realistic something in the lines of the Bionic Commando game. Either way I'm keeping my eye out for this one.
Speaking of retro rereleases has there been any more news on the PS Store version of Micky Mouse's 'Castle of Illusion'? I like the game but I am really still waiting to here of 'World of Illusion' instead which is my all time favourite co-op game.
A historical title from the Amiga years.
Still, I wish they could leave these old classics be. They belong to our memories, in my humble opinion.
I thumbs'd you up because someone decided your humble opinion was invalid. Also because i agree to a certain extent, but i also think reliving memories is sometimes best too. Imagine re-marrying your wife or something.
Everyone can be happy here. You want it to be part of your memories and that is perfectly fine, just don't buy or play it. I however would love to see this game again minus the awful Genesis controller.
This is exciting news. Out of this world and Flashback were two of my favorite games back in those days.
I just hope there is an option to play it like the original, just with better graphics. This game kept me busy on the Genesis for a really long time, but it was worth it because of how fun it was. It wasn't that difficult it just took a lot of trial and error which was the norm for games back then.
Loved that game , can t wait to play an enhanced version .
This actually came up in a discussion with my father not too long ago. It was one of the first video games he bought for me on the Sega CD. I have very fond memories of it and am looking forward to trying out an updated version, 'AMY' aside.
One of my Genesis favorites from 20 years ago. I'm very excited about this remake because the game's style and story are very much worth revisiting with modern technology. I'm also hopeful the original will be released on PSN in anticipation, as that is a classic game I have not touched in nearly two decades.
This game was so amazing for its day.
Yup. The animations were of a level not seen before. I remember gazing at them, wondering how the *heck* they managed that.
Bu today… Well, like I said: I wish we could just keep this one stored in our memories. Today it would be like a cheap mobile app. It deserves more respect than being revived in this age.
