Sorry, but most gamers would rather play than watch.

It was initially reported at Kotaku that G4TV was canceling all video game-related programming. Later, an official statement confirmed the unfortunate report.

"X-Play" and "Attack of the Show" Will be canceled after this year is over; G4 will run original episodes through the end of 2012 but after that, no more new shows will be made. The last batch of episodes will boast various guest hosts, including Michael Ian Black, Josh Myers, John Barrowman, Paul Scheer, Horatio Sanz, and Rob Huebel. As for the regular hosts (Candace Bailey, Blair Herter, Sara Underwood, and Morgan Webb), it seems they'll have to look around for new gigs, which probably won't be that difficult to nail down.

It's a little ironic because not long ago, I wondered just how popular these shows were on G4TV . Clearly, not popular enough.

shame i've been a loyal fan of x play for nearly 10 years. haven't liked it as much the past couple years but i stayed loyal to it that's just the kind of guy i am.

makes me sick how G4 has just turned their backs on all us fans who have made the network such a success the past decade. i hope next year when they rebrand or whatever they're doing totally bombs.

peace.

I tried watching them years ago but they were total Xbots so I never went back.

I got a job for Morgan Webb though…

IGN is up for sale, so if they wind up doing wholesale changes too, then I'm wondering where all the xbots are gonna hang.

The article here ends with this: 10/26/2012 9:35:03 PM John Shepard

Who's John Shepard?

Anyway, all of this is part of NBC Universal new strategy to rebrand G4 into a GQ-like network targeting the "modern male" and not nerds or geeks. They're going after big name advertisers and sponsors.

So it didn't really mattered how popular G4 was with its current base. They're targeting a different audience.

John Shepard is a figment of Ben's imagination 🙂 He is like Afro Samurai's friend Ninja Ninja.

Well, it's been a long time coming. I really think G4 could have been much more successful if it had kept elements of Tech TV, maybe embraced some sci-fi stuff, and simply kept things more mature. Instead they just ran with the "hey high school kids, come look at videogames and boobies" model. Also, WTF were shows like Cops and Cheaters doing on that channel?

I watched X-play when it was still Extended Play! I love how they edited the video into agreeing with what they were saying and the mini show like the Jedi thing, twas hilarious!

The fact that Morgan Webb is still at G4 speaks volumes about how "talented" she is. I'm sure Microsoft will give her a job as a flunkie. Maybe she will be on stage for Microsoft's 2013 E3 Press Conference.

I am happy to see X-Play go as that show did not embrace games, it embraced Microsoft and treated just about everything else like crap. I liked it when it was Extended Play except when they would review a Final Fantasy game as Sessler hates them and could never do a unbiased review about them.

AOTS will be missed I have watched that show since it was Screen Savers been a truly long time fan. It has had its ups and downs but has always stayed very close to the same show it started as.

Here's hoping the new move fails bigtime and NBCUniversal loses a bundle, screw you guys, I'm going home.

" it embraced Microsoft and treated just about everything else like crap" Bullshit they loved PS3 i guess you must have missed when.
MGS4.
Uncharted 2. (their game of the year 2009 btw)
LBP 1&2.
resistance 1.2. And 3.
god of war 3.
Killzone 2&3.
flower.
journey.
ico collection.
infamous.
all got perfect scores. plus they gave games like heavy rain. GT5 demon/dark souls. Uncharted 1&3. not perfect but still favorable reviews to.

probably just another hater who never even watched the show.

I stopped watching last year when they praised a CoD developer for the massive changes they made to CoD and in the same episode ripped Uncharted 3 apart for being more of the same. So if you think I am just a hater that's fine but it certainely isn't the case. Hell I have a few Xbox loyalists as friends and they have said the very same thing, plus look around the net and you'll see I am not alone nor am I part of a small group.

The key words in that sentence were"just about" if they didn't give favorable scores on occasion to some other systems/games then everybody would have noticed what I am talking about, also being that NBCUniversal is partnered with Microsoft it came as no suprise to anyone that they would favor Microsoft products over everthing else.

okay maybe i was abit rough there you have my apologies but i don't know man i've been watching for going on 10 years and they've been pretty consistent with their review for all consoles not just on occasion. i mean i remember adam going on and on about uncharted 2 being his favorite game. and morgan about how she loves ratchet & clank.

the uncharted 3 thing… yea that surprised me abit but they didn't really rip it apart he just said it wasn't as good as uncharted 2 which it wasn't.

And yeah i know theres alot of x play haters. this they hate PS3 thing has been well documented. i even remember adam joking about it when they asked him if uncharted 2 really was his favorite game he said yea because my check from Microsoft bounced! that's when i was 100% sure there was no truth to it. anyway i'll leave it at that. peace.

and for the record i know its irrelevant but those thumbs down weren't me. i don't do that i think they're lame.

I enjoyed both of these shows – When they go, so will my subscription to G4 – sounds like they are turning G4 into another Spike TV which is 99% garbage.

Good! Now every show on that channel can suck. Consistency is a wonderful thing. lol

Last time I watched X-Play was years ago, and I stopped watching because they seemed biased and didn't seem to know what they were talking about at times. It felt like they were reading a script, and may have not even played some of the games.

That is why I get all my reviews from Ben now. If I am interested in a game, I wait for Ben to review it and read his review, no need for X-Play for me.
