Ben-DutkaThere's no doubt that Sony is putting a ton of money and resources into their virtual reality endeavor.
And they know it can't be more than a passing fad . However, we wanted to know if gamers were ready to jump aboard the bandwagon in 2016 and according to our latest poll, the answer is…muddy.
The responses were all over the place, with only a slight majority saying they wouldn't get it this year but perhaps later, and a lot more saying they'd either never get it, or it's a day-one purchase. Statistically speaking, there's only one word for these results: Inconclusive. Maybe it doesn't matter that PlayStation VR has the software edge ; it seems a lot of consumers simply aren't sold on the idea just yet. Perhaps it'll be one of those "you have to see it to believe it" things but if so, the response from participants thus far has been pretty darn positive .
Now, this week we get Braid designer Jonathan Blow's anticipated new puzzler, The Witness . Are you excited? It was recently priced at $40 and the developer claims it's about "10x as big as Braid." So, getting it this week? Not sure? Let us know.
I'm struggling to think that games will adapt VR any better than they did 3d. Big differences sure, but that's my concern. I just don't think the industry will latch onto it like it's expected. I sure hope it becomes popular though, the thought of it is fantastic.
But I wouldn't be a consumer until it dropped about half the anticipated price and I knew support was going to be there and continue.
Well, try to think of it as a new genre, not a new way of gaming.
Don't worry, the price will drop. It always does.
Unless the software is there right at the beginning I'll wait too, for as long as I am able to. That's always smart.

I really wish the best for The Witness. In a generation that likes being fed everything down their throats, shooting at anything and everything it's going to be tough selling this game.
While I have not played it, I know puzzle games can be fun and rewarding. There was one that I played on PS1 from those Playstation underground demos and I loved it. I think it was called Cubes or something along lines and it was very entertaining.
I'm one of those who are sold on PSVR.
As for the Witness, I want it but I think $40 is a bit too much for it, and seeing how Sony's been doing some great sales as of late, I'll just wait for another flash sale price-drop for it a year from now.

How is the Witness getting so wrecked.
Here's the VR problem: We've been burned before. Nintendo's Virtual Boy. 3D TV. Even the Vita. With today's prices (however "justified") It's a lot of dough to throw away on nothing. Why risk it so soon?
That itself creates a new problem. We're hesitant, so of course VR doesn't sell so good. Which creates a self fulfilled prophecy. Either we buy it & hope for the best. Or wait and contribute to it not selling ell enough to actually want to spend the bucks on it.
The only answer is dirt cheap VR systems the first 2 years, which of course nobody will do since it's too much immediate profit loss. Even if it guaranteed greater future profits.
Those are all different from the "dream" of virtual reality that has been like the electric car for decades.
I'm selling things to have the moola now. I want to fly like an Eagle outside of my dreams, explore as a Golem, and play in the Robot League.
Then I wouldn't mind taking a Tie Fighter on a mission some day or driving a personal sub under the sea looking around at the light up jellyfish.
