Gran Turismo Sport Revealed: The “Rebirth” Of Motorsports

We've been waiting and waiting for Sony to announce the next Gran Turismo installment and now it's here.

Revealed during Sony's press briefing at Paris Games Week, Gran Turismo Sport is the latest brainchild of Polyphony Digital and GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Scheduled to land on PlayStation 4 next year, this exclusive will take advantage of the extra power offered in the new console, resulting in improved graphics, physics and sound. But above all else, they want to "deliver a revolution in the way that people experience driving games, a figurative 'rebirth' of motorsports." In the game, there will be two FIA online championships running simultaneously; you can either choose to represent your home country in the Nations Cup or represent your favorite car maker in the Manufacturers Cup.

Amazingly enough, the winners of each championship will be awarded with an FIA prize giving ceremony. And yeah, that's pretty historic, because it'll be the first time a video game will be officially recognized as part of the real racing world. Polyphony has worked alongside the FIA to develop a game that will be more realistic than ever, so we can't wait to see it.

The good news it's not all about online racing. There will be plenty of content for offline players as well, although they haven't discussed those details just yet. Lastly, a Gran Turismo Sport beta should kick off in the spring, so stay tuned for more info.
