Wait, Destiny Was Delayed Due To Story Issues? Really?

Nobody plays Destiny for the story, do they? Well, did you realize that was the reason behind the game's original delay?

First, some background: Developer Bungie and publisher Activision have been embroiled in a lawsuit with Marty O'Donnell, who composed the soundtracks for the Halo games, and also produced a few songs for Destiny . He now claims he was "fired without cause" and forced to give up shares in the company. But something else has arisen from this battle, as found in submitted court documents (via VentureBeat ).

As it turns out, Bungie made "substantial revisions" to the game's narrative just before the original projected release of September 2013. The game was then pushed back 7 months. Now, thing is, fans have been complaining about the Destiny story from the start, as the disjointed nature of the narrative led them to believe big pieces of the plot were missing. Don't forget that it was supposed to have quite the background in lore.

Currently, most of the game's backstory can only be found in the Grimoire Cards, which aren't even in the game (they're found on site online). It would appear that the 7-month delay didn't really do much to help…perhaps it hurt?

I don't play Destiny for the story. I'm 80's hours in and I still don't really know what's going on. There's something about "The Darkness" trying to kill everyone and the Vanguards have to stop it. There's also this little robot called Ghost who does all the talking for me.
That's okay though. For me Destiny is all about how it looks and feels and plays!

Same here. For me though, Destiny is all about my shiny Hawkmoon, and how much I love the sound of it's bullet blasting away Fallen heads into smithereens :3

Yeah the story is about as underwhelming as it gets. I'm surprised it's doing as well as it is. I mean I enjoy playing it for its solid gameplay and I love leveling. However it's certainly the most tedious game I've played also. Never has a game I've played forced me to do tedious tasks over and over and over… just for a piece of armor.

That does drive me away at times. But I'm surprised more people don't have a problem with this but complain about repetitive games daily.

The story to Destiny is lacking and broken, for sure. The 7 month delay was probably to try and reform a semi-coherent story from the story pieces they had to work with.
That said, none of that matters much to me or my friends. We play it nearly ever day and it's fun as heck.

Also, I came to here to say that I got my YEAR ONE EMBLEM!!!
In case you're wondering what that is, it means I've done everything that needs to be done in Destiny.
Thanks! =)
