Star Ocean 5 Screens, Details Hint At An Epic Adventure

If you want a better look at the new Star Ocean , you've got your wish.

After announcing Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness last week, RPG lovers have been pining for more information and media.

Well, we got it thanks to a new batch of screenshots released by Square Enix and a bunch of info gleaned from the latest Famitsu publication (as seen at Gematsu ).

The screenshots give us a look at the game's epic environment, combat, and characters, and the Famitsu details helps round out the image of a promising JRPG: The seamless real-time battles will require cooperation among your allies – as one might expect – but events may suddenly transition to combat, which will keep you on your toes. The main character is Fidel Camus and they revealed a couple female characters as well.

And here are some other intriguing snippets, starting with a combat explanation:

"Each character’s attack method varies depending on their distance from the enemy, and combos can be triggered by consecutively pressing buttons. Various skills will have different effects depending on whether they’re triggered at short or long distances, and you can use them in combination with standard attacks. This is all that’s been announced about the battle system so far, however it’s clear there are a variety of battle styles, such as cooperating with allies, consecutively striking single enemies, and attacking multiple enemies at once."

From producer Shuichi Kobayashi regarding the overall product:

"The Star Ocean games are a series that I feel should be about enabling the players to enjoy what’s going on comfortably. Over the years, the games have always had action game elements in their combat systems, but they’re otherwise definitely not action games in the truest sense. For Star Ocean 5 as well, we’re making a game that’s not so dependent purely on player skill to be enjoyed so that our audience can focus on taking on the world and characters that we’ve created here."

Here's hoping Star Ocean 5 arrives sooner rather than later!

I really like how well they've managed to insert distinctly anime characters into a highly detailed, visually diverse world. I always wondered if high level graphical experiences would be able to even use an animated art style like this, and I have to say I'm impressed at their ability to both take the visual experience to a new level as well as stay true to their traditional art-styles.

It looks beautiful, and it's hard not to appreciate the visual achievement.

I'm starting to tire of Bloodborne's reddish-brown bland darkness, so I'm currently giving AC:Unity a go. I'll return to Bloodborne later.

But those screenshots have me excited for Star Ocean. Can't wait!

Still waiting for a game where in-game graphic looks like Advent Children.

That would definitely be drool-worthy.

Holy crap, I'm totally hooked in by the graphic.
I wasn't pumped up before but I know I am now.

Still, woulda liked it better if it is set after Star Ocean 3. Where every is aware they're not actually real. Though I never finished the game, goddamn Luther is one of the few bosses I never beaten in my gaming life.
