Ben-DutkaWhoa…it was a new Star Ocean !
Square Enix was teasing a mystery game over the past week, and it has been formally announced: It's Star Ocean 5 or rather, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness .
You can grab your first look at Kotaku , where you'll find baseline setting and gameplay information, along with a few scanned images from Japanese publication Famitsu. In development at the franchise's original developer, Tri-Ace, the new effort it takes place between Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 3 . The setting is a planet 6,000 light years from Earth; a strange place called "Faicreed." As for combat, it will boast "seamless real-time battle," which is disappointing but no real surprise. Currently confirmed platforms are PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4; no mention made of Xbox.
There has always been some semblance of real-time action in this franchise, but I was hoping for at least a hybrid presentation like before. At any rate, it'll be interesting to see how RPG veteran Tri-Ace approaches this new entry. Stay tuned for more details.

Being based "with the essence of Star Ocean 3" STAR OCEAN 3 means this is a winner.
Yay! Some good news out of SE! I can't wait, this is as close to AAA a JRPG will get these days and I loved the last two.
I'm not worried about the battles, they will still have a battle system in place that takes strategy as much as action.
Genuinely surprised (in a good way) by this. Really wasn't sure SE was interested in their non-FF legacy franchises.
Finally.
Star Ocean were more Action RPGs than Turn based, the only thing was there was a loading screen.
If the combat is still as tactical and varied then having seamless battles doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
I'm actually pretty stoked for this, I love the Star Ocean games I played.
Persona 5, Disgaea 5 AND Star Ocean 5?
Sony's bringing us the goodies.
2015 is going to be a good year.
I've played and enjoyed all the previous star ocean games, so this new entry is a must buy for me. ^_^
The generic looking anime cutscenes seem like a digression for the video game era we're in.

Finally SE do the right thing…
I've only played some of 3, but my save was corrupted and I never got back to it. I remember something about the achievements being annoying, like "deal 444 damage" or something
Yes those were the Battle Trophies. Provides the secret content goodies and new game difficulties.
Only for the die-hards. I only got 90% and the rest would take another 200hrs in preparation.
Those were in the days before actual trophies
How time change people eh SE!, a gaming gen ago they would try to delay this game at any cost on Sony consoles and release it on a XBOX asap as a ''exclusive''.

I need to check out more Star Ocean, I don't think I've played enough of it.
Oh rejoice! I really was worried this reveal would turn out to be some mobile trash, but NO! No, it is quite the opposite, if anything it is bring the genre I love back into the foreground in gaming. With Star Ocean 5, Persona 5 & Final Fantasy XV the JRPG genre is certainly live and kicking.
I haven't played Star Ocean: The Last Hope, but I loved what I played of 3 – Until later in the game they suddenly let enemies deplete your MP which equals death of your character, still not over that. I am all for this and really pleased that Tri-Ace are involved too.
SO: TLHI was lots of fun. Probably not as good as SO3, but still really fun.
C'mon man unfinished SO3? Noooo.
Fair point Banky A, thing is a loved the game up until that point, but when enemies started to kill me off by draining my Mp, the difficulty spike was just immense and it really through me off. But the story and characters really did grip me, I have no current game, so I am going to take it on… Once again 😛 I need to say I've beaten a Star Ocean and it shall happen.
Although this is good news, it's still SE we're talking about so I have my doubts.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Star Ocean turned into an action game.
It sounds like there's seamless transition to battle, but I doubt it'll be fully action. Tri-ace is still handling development, I believe. SE is just publishing. But yeah, I'm with you!

I've been a SO devout since TSS, so this is officially the best announcement I've seen since the PS4 launched. Having beaten them all (except for Blue Sphere, sadly), my body is so ready.
