PlayStation Is Most Popular Brand On Social Sites

Remember when SCEA boss Jack Tretton said the majority of PlayStation 3 owners were "voracious technophiles?"

Well, perhaps he was right. According to results from a Greenlight Entertainment Retail report as cited by WebUser , Sony's PlayStation is the "most followed brand on Facebook and Twitter in April, with 1.4 million fans and followers in total." Over 12 million UK consumers searched online for entertainment products that month and 72% of that number looked about for consoles and games; "Nintendo DS Games" was the most commonly searched-for term with around 1.5 million hits (12% of all searches), and Amazon.co.uk was the "most visible" entertainment site. But what's interesting to readers 'round here is that the PlayStation brand is the most popular on major social sites like Twitter and Facebook. We've certainly found a lot of info on Twitter recently – what's with this new trend of announcing stuff there, anyway? – and we at PSXE have even had our reviews for certain games noted on Facebook pages for certain publishers and game makers. Yes indeed, it's a brave new world.

And PlayStation is right at the center of it, apparently. Let's not forget about that new Facebook integration for the PS3, which goes along with existing Twitter integration for certain games. I mean, I don't care, but obviously, other people do.

P.S. The pic is a bit of nostalgia back when people seemed to care more about b/c in the PS3.
