Internet Griping About Major Fallout 4 PS4 Frame Rate Issues

Bethesda and PlayStation hardware don't always get along.

I think we all remember the frame rate issues we experienced in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and it appears those issues may have returned (unfortunately) in this week's Fallout 4 .

In addition to a variety of leaked gameplay and footage , we're hearing some feedback from those who have already played the game. And as summarized here , the frame rate in the PS4 version can take a serious dive. They've been talking about it in the NeoGAF forums , where two users have posted video evidence of significant slowdown. The game seems to stutter worse when inside buildings, when the frame rate can dip well below 30 FPS. Worse, the frame rate falls when using a gun scope, which of course impacts gameplay.

Industry insider Tidux claims the frame rate can fall into the single digits and even shared a video on Twitter, apparently taken directly from his PS4. That video has since disappeared, however. We have heard the issues persist even after update 1.01 and the Day One patch have been installed.

This isn't good news for Fallout fans but perhaps these are exaggerated reports…

How can there be a day one patch if the game hasn't released on day one yet?

OK, correct me if I'm wrong but…..

I could see maybe having problems getting a game to run right on the older PS# since It was a beast to work with(so I've heard on & on & on).

But since the PS4 is basically a computer compared to the PS3, I would think that should be no less than a cakewalk for developers to make their games work 100% on.

My thinking is that Bethesda may be visionary in the way they story tell & want to do their games, but are really quite the amateurs at getting any of their games to work right, right out of the box.

Sony couldn't have made the PS4 any easier to develop for. And yet… I don't know man but like you said, at some point it's gotta be the developer's fault.

That sucks. After playing MGS5 no game on PS4 should run below 60fps let alone 30fps. I honestly can't stand 30fps anymore. The Last of Us Remastered, MGS5 and the plethora of Wii U games that run at 60fps has utterly spoiled 30fps games.

I can't speak to how big in scope and ambition Fallout 4 is but not being able to run at 30fps is a pretty crappy thing for its fans.

That war was lost before it began. Even Sony's prodigy studio is making their videogames run @30fps. Which is a damn shame. But don't worry. You'll be able to buy your fav games from this gen in glorious 1080p@60fps next gen. When they get remastered…With even less things to improve…yeah.

But yeh I aggree its really hard to go back to the less smooth experience that is 30fps. I think 60 should be standard.

I read somewhere that also x1 had some frame rate issues, but indeed more on ps4.
Hmmm,i'l have to see this for my self how big this issue is,but woops this gen many games got issues at release it's absurd.
But i have to admit,oh man with fallout 3:later on F3 got very slow, and frooze very often,i had to use some button trick to get pass that problem every time but still with all of that crap,F3 is my favorite game nothing comes close,so if F4 does not freeze or some other game breaking shit it will be allright for me personally plus i am confident that it will be patched, but man what is going on in the gaming industrie? So many games have issues at release and patch here patch there, ridiculous

Bethesda must produce their games in a building with no internet, just a sink of Watson servers.

PS4 is still probably the best place to play though, x1 is weaker and PC will get held back by unfocused hardware trying to get graphical details that don't exist.

You'll get my gripes when I get my game.

For those that have not played MGS5 — You can start playing that while Fall Out 4 gets patched up.

According to Digital Foundry, it's the X1 version that is experiencing worst frame rate drops than PS4. (as low as 0fps?!)

I think Bethesda developers are pretty crappy, to be honest. I bet Kojima Studios could make Fallout 4 with better visuals AND much higher framerate. Just sayin'…

Pretty much any Japanese AAA developer could program a better Fallout. Western developers outside a handful are pretty crappy at programming games.

I loved Fallout 3, and I was going to get F4 this week, but I'm not going to support a developer who can't even get a console version of a game correct, even when that console shares basic PC architecture.
I guess this sheds serious doubts on the validity of claims of certain developers with regard to the difficulty of ps3 development

I can't say I'm surprised. I was really hoping for a stable game right out of the gate, but I guess it just can't happen. I know, big game and what not, but it still sucks
